Thrull. Twenty two moons, hundreds of millions of kilometers abou, three seas, a volcanic equatorial belt, hordes of nasty beasts. Crazies out in the massive wastes and wilds. Crazies in the six hives. Thrull. You're convinced there isn't a greater hive of scum and villainy in the Imperium, Necromunda be damned. On a planet no one cares about, where everything wants to kill you and the nobles bleed you dry in taxes, who wouldn't break a law or two every now and then? At the beating metropolitan heart of Thrull, Kanus City. Urban overflow from Hive Reliqua, the planet capitol, if you can imagine such a thing. On a smaller planet Kanus City would be the size of a continent, or the only urban sprawl. On Thrull, she's the biggest, the melting pot for those who can't afford to live in a hive, settled down nomads, entrepreneurs, refugees, off worlders, workers, and their descendants. Oh, and a vast and diverse array of criminality.

That's you. A criminal. A Ganger. What separates you from a common thief, murderer or wretch, is your crew, your set, your gang. capital G, Gang. You have people watching your back, you have a reputation to uphold, a safety net. Maybe even a family. Being a Ganger in Kanus City may as well be it's own profession, considering the proliferation of organized crime.

You've laid low, done your part, did your jobs, a quiet criminal in the underbelly of Kanus City. You've fought for everything you have, and now, your crew is looking to make moves that will set you up for years. A big job or two and enough Thrones to move out of the gutter, and into the big leagues.

The Galaxy is your oyster ganger, but first, there's a question you have to answer..."

With juicy stats in hand, everyone has an origin, a place where their story begins. Where does your tale start?

>Pleasure House Host: From a young age you have tended to the needs of the rich and powerful in the halls of the Atlakhan Paradisium, providing entertainment and delicacy for Hive officials, crime lords, nobility, and guilders. Never having to sell your own body, your services were a pleasant affect, attention to detail, and discretion. Your professionalism and tact has exposed you to the seedier side of the business, and plunged you into a legal purgatory. Smuggling, narcotics, murder, all lay under the veneer of civility and excess. Either through professional pride, monetary drive, or fear, you preserve and thrive, serving your employees dutifully. However your days of servility and quiet professionalism are sliding to an end, as your employers slide you further and further towards espionage and extortion. You fear that soon the day will come where you must make sure that a guest's pleasant slumber in their room should be their last.

>Manufactorum Labourer: Within the smoke choked slums and ash coated ghettos at the boarders of Kanus City, dominate massive Manufactorums. On a smaller world these would be cities onto themselves, but on Thrull the tyranny of scale rules supreme. While the equatorial hives mine and manufacture for off world Export, the lavish polar hives and Kanus City demand on planet infrastructure. From corpse starch plants and industrial farming, to construction and engineering, massive mega structures line the outskirts of the city, closer to resource junctions and trade routes. Kanus City provides for herself and her masters, and you have the unfortunate fate to work in her forges. The life of a labourer is short, miserable, and exhausting, feeble civilians wasting away to provide for the rest of Thrull. However, theres opportunities for a better life through criminal enterprise and measured civil disobedience. You have found one such path, and through shadowy contacts and illegal channels you are able to import greater material for your Manufactorum, and "loose" some product for your shady fellows. Occasionally a riot or strike must be organized to draw the attention of the Enforcers and Arbites elsewhere, or to extort those above and below the production chain of command. With strong ties to the working people and various methods of persuasion, you can whip up a fury with speed.

>Wasteland Nomad: Kanus City is merciless, but the wilderness of Thrull is outright malicious. It takes a dedicated and persistent kind of insane to survive beyond the relative safety of a hive or Kanus, and the nomads and raiders of the wastes and wilds have that in abundance. You've lived your whole life on the run and in pursuit, chasing down tomorrow while giving today a run for its money. From mounted herds to long trailing guzzoline convoys, you have been a caravanner since birth, and your first lesson was that of violence. Titanic creatures, enemy caravans, insane raiders, mutants, even your fellows when supplies ran precariously low and the high summer sun baked minds and the pitch winter nights broke wills. All tried to kill you and your own and failed, and your reward is the greatest freedom anyone on Thrull could possibly enjoy. While some nomads and raiders pray to be scooped up by the greater Imperium and whisked away to some far off battle to prove their might and impress the Emperor so that they may survive even death itself, you chose a different path. There are those in Kanus City who haven't forgotten their ancestry, refugees and intrepid wasters that built Kanus from the shadow of Hive Reliqua. Some of them even understand a good business opportunity when they see it. With City contacts met through watering holes, saloons, and caravanserai, you trade wasteland salvage, exotic flora and fauna, arms and people. Your caravan has grown strong with trade, but with war brewing in the bowels of the hive between your business partners and the Hive, that strength is called into the only frontier you have yet to brave; Kanus City herself.

>Street Thug: Crime wasn't something you resorted to, or something you were roped into, or something you feared. You were born into it. You were born into crushing poverty, shocking violence, and illicit activity. Born to parents that couldn't afford you, into a family that struggled to support you, in a city that didn't care, to a society that saw you as less than a statistic. You stole at age five, robbed at twelve, sold on the streets at fifteen and committed your first murder at seventeen. Years later, Kanus City had made you hard and desperate, enough to make you laugh at death and live to the fullest. You and the crew you've accumulated throughout your upbringing get what you want by any means necessary, keeping barely out of the reach of actual gangs and the grip of the law enforcement. Life for you hasn't, nor will ever be, easy for you, but Kanus City has everything you could want for those with the courage and desperation to reach for it. Now you stand at the point where your unit needs to ally themselves with a gang, since freelancers are not tolerated and the infrastructure required to make your own is far beyond your reach at the moment. So for you, its join or die, and for that, you need to do something worthy enough to grab the attention of a real outift...

By an overwhelming majority, blue collar factory man won the day. As a matter of curiosity, what made that shine over the other walks of life? I wanted it to be a balanced choice, but seems it was a massive landslide

Now, there were some pretty good rolls up there, so what the ganger is good at, he's *really* good at. There's ten stats;

>Combat Stats
BS: Balistics skill, your ability to pick up, arm, aim, fire and hit your target with a ranged weapon. Polar raiders have a legendary ability to kill well beyond the optimal ranges of their autoguns and thrown glaives, while more insulated individuals may have never seen a firearm their entire lives.
WS: Weapons Skill, your ability to handle, strike, parry, block, and thrust with melee weapons. Many give nomads and wasters the most credit when it comes to swordsmanship, but strapping an explosive to the tip of a spear does not a skilled warrior make. In fact, the poorer boroughs of Kanus see some truly frightening pugilistic ability, and due to the legality of most firearms knives are a common threat.

>Physical Stats
S: Strength, your physical endurance and power. Your ability to lift heavy objects and for how long. Most Thrull criminals tend towards leaness, due to diet and activity. Criminal labourers tend to have the most robust frames, their hard work and illegal access to a greater diet lends itself more readily available brawn.
T: Toughness, your ability get hit, keeping getting hit, and keep going. Thrull eats the weak, and you'll find yourself hard pressed to find soft individuals in the streets of Kanus City, or even in the lower levels of the hives. Many criminals can take a hit, but there are few who are closer to danger than the nomads on guzzoline rigs and the labourers of manufactorums, industrial accidents frequent and fatal, and they have constitutions to match.
AG: Agility, your speed and dexterity. At a high sprint or game of cards with a loaded deck, quick feet and hands are paramount. Pleasure house workers, gambling den dealers and shooters often have decent sleight of hand and respectable dexterity, nimbleness sometimes being a matter of life and death. Street thugs and nomads are typically quick on their feet, whether it's for running from law enforcement, or chasing down prey, speed is extremely important.

;

if(Reml !!rI9o3Ei+XTL && title=="" && postNumber==2713675 && dateTime=="07/08/18(Sun)13:25:58")

">>2713531
>Mental Stats
INT: Intelligence, your ability to know that a tomato is a fruit, but maybe that it doesn't belong in a fruit salad. Street smarts are fairly common, but only middle to upper class skilled workers and those in the entertainment and service industries can afford a decent education, or find themselves with frequent access to more esoteric knowledge and the means to use it.
PER: Your ability to see a tomato from a distance, smell one from a bit away, hear a tomato drop in a crowded room, and taste when a tomato is 'off'. Having keen senses is a must out in the wilds, being able to smell in coming rain can save you from a deadly flash flood, seeing predators can save you from being something's dinner. Being able to hear and trace a gunshot can save you a bullet hole and lend you an edge in combat. There are few individuals with a keener perception than street criminals and caravanners.
WP: Willpower, your ability to resist the unholy allure of a tomato based fruit salad. A strong willpower is where you find it, being able to buck the grasp of peer pressure and addiction, or persevere in the face of extreme suffering, or pursue your goals despite any set back. A strong willpower can see a destitute cripple into a powerful mogul, or an eviscerated victim back into a dangerous opponent. It's not enough to have strength of body and mind. To survive on Thrull, you must be strong in spirit.

>Social Stats
FEL: Fellowship, your ability to talk, make friends, and sell those friends a tomato based fruit salad. Gangs thrive on esprit de corps, a surly group if embittered killers are no better than a raider posse. Gangers need to fight together, and for each other. Because of this, street runners and nomads tend to have an ability to build good rapport with their own kinds, but gang fronted restaurants, bath and pleasure houses, and other such services tend to have personnel specifically trained to have agreeable and convincing affects.
INF: Infamy, your renown and reputation in the streets. Sometimes you have to use strength to bully someone into submission, other times you have to utilize your keen intelligence to frighten a fool into silence, or use your fellowship to smoothly deliver a veiled threat. But other times the weight of your reputation is enough to cow someone. As you rise in power, so does you or infamy, the power of your face and name in the streets and indeed the world. With a high infamy you can silence a crowd with your presence or finish a fight before it even starts. However this also puts you in the sights of law enforcement, where once you may have enjoyed relative anonymity, your actions will eventually make you a target. Thankfully infamy can rise and fall, with the loss of respect brings an increased level of social anonymity.

I put good stats in both combat forms because being gangers we will have to figh some time, even if is to defend ourselves and it's important to be at least competent in both melee and range combat because we don't know what situations we will face.
I put high fell to make use of our ability to influence larger groups, we're gonna need a good stat if we plan to use it.
I admit int is a little low because I didn't have any pratical use for it in mind when I was making the distribution but we can swap some things around and raise it a bit. ">You stir in your bed, rousing from a dreamless slumber. You're tired, probably hit the amasec a little hard. But why shouldn't you have? Yesterday was your promotion, your wife has another baby on the way, and today, if everything goes according to plan, you finally get promoted to section foreman under new leadership. Granted, that might involve a murder, but the stakes are high. You roll out of bed, your wife, Thea, stirring at the disturbance before settling back to sleep. Across the room, your son and daughter share a bunk. Your small hab-unit is three rooms, kitchen, washroom, bedroom. Larger than the place you grew up in, and after your promotion, hopefully your children will be able to raise their children in a place larger than this. You stumble into the washroom, sliding open the door and shutting it before turning on the lights. Your Factorum jumpsuit is folded on top the radiator, Thea must have cleaned is after you passed out. You smile, wondering what you would do without her. You look in the mirror, your black hair peppered with grey at the temples, heavy bags under your eyes. All in all, for twenty five years old, you don't look too bad, in fact you've already outlived your father by three years at least. He would have been proud of you, probably. Maybe not what you're doing for extra money...

>You shave, brush your teeth and wash your face with soap, commodities you probably wouldn't have without the extra income. Clean kids and a three room hab-unit. Maybe your dad wouldn't care. You throw on your uniform, and grab your safety mask off the wall, another expensive item that's helped get you to middle age. With any luck, you can buy a palate of filters and the mask can be a family heirloom.

>You quietly sneak through the unit, grabbing a corpse-starch bar off the kitchen counter on your way out, stuffing it into a chest pocket and donning your mask. You step out into the dirty hall of the hab-block, flickering lights leading you to the lift, which you ride down to the outside. You leave the slumped body in the corner. Alive or dead, it wasn't your concern. You need to be at the Manufactorum early today. The doors open with a crackling chime, and you exit the lift. The cool night air blasts you, followed by the roar of Kanus City. In the distance, the peak of Hive Reliqua twinkles on the horizon, a world away. Ash and soot are carried in sheets by the wind, a common occurance in the 65th Industrial District, an manufacturing ward a bit more "inland" than most. You walk down the street a bit, and wait for the manufactorum bus.

we have to let our boys know that the Ironbloods are making a move on us, do we have a way to communicate, an alert sistem or even a safehouse where we can reach most of them?

if we don't warn them they may be ambushed like we just were.

if we can alert them on the way to the manufatoriun now that we have a vehicle that would be great"

>A bead of cold sweat forms at your temple. Thea, the kids. If the Ironbloods, were looking for you, they may wheel back around for your family. Your grab Tip by the collar

"Listen son, you know where I live?"
>The young lad nods, frightened
"Good, I need you to ride fast and make sure my family is alright. Let my wife know she should start packing, stay with her brother until I say it's safe. Unit 475, remember. Tell me what I said back."

>The boy stammers before revving the tuk tuk engine
"Go to yous crib an' grab ya wife n' kids, tellem to hop to ya brother in law, an' clear out propa."

>You nod, patting his lapel
"That's a lad. Off with ya. I'll cover for you at the factorum. If I get the promotion I'll see that you're compensated."

>The boy frowns, struggling no doubt with "compensated". To your surprise, he seems to have used context clues to piece it together.
"Rewarded. Right. Yes boss."
>He offers a sloppy salute then speeds off, blatantly running against the grain of traffic. Maybe the lad's not a bad sort after all. He swerves out of the way of the factorum shuttle. Looks like you found your silver lining.

>You sprint up to the massive bus, three open walled tiers of seats, ladders on the outside and a set of spiral stairs at the front and the back encouraging riders to simply climb aboard. The bus didn't really stop as much as slow its progression. The nearest stop isn't for a full block, and your mad dash this morning has you gassed. You run up to an available rung and grab it, hoisting yourself up so you're not dragged against the ground. You make your ascent to the top tier, as the fumes from the engine will be weaker there, letting you take off your mask and maybe nap. You climb to the top and swing yourself into the platform, all of the seats already taken up, but this early in the sunless morning the platform is sparse with standing passengers. The rear of the platform is tied off with tarps secured to the seats and handles, typically this is fine for the elderly or pregnant, but you know that it means merchandise.

"Oi, Mr. Best!"
>You hear from the back of the platform. Cheslin Kace, a bear of a man, a shock of red hair cut close to his head. His overalls are tied about his waist, leaving his sun burned skin exposed, decorated with a map of tattoos. His rebreather hangs about his neck as he smokes a lho stick. The scars along his chest the only evidence of his lung transplant from last month. You smile, despite your morning, Cheslin is a good childhood friend, calling him your muscle would be doing a disservice to your relationship.

"Mr. Kace!"
>You saunter up to him. And he stands from the seat, batting the two workers on the seat away. His reputation in the section proceeds him, and they do little to argue. He claps his arms about your shoulders.
"Happy birthday bruv, sorry I couldn't make to the crib, duty callin' an' all 'at."

>You nod, sliding off your mask as Cheslin hands you a lho stick.
"Today's the day. Everythin' set up?"

"Aye. Tight as the Foreman's arse. Today goes smooth then, we get a new frakkin' foreman."

>You take a drag, looking about. Most of the riders respect Cheslin enough to give him his privacy, and those closest seem to be asleep. You lean in conspiratorially and whisper
"About that. I was chased from my hab today. Three dreks, 'Bloods. They was lookin' for me, I know it. Shook 'em off in the traffic, and frakking Dansum rode up but I have him checking on Thea and the small ones. Ches, I think Lunt got wise we were wise, and called in back up."
>Lunt of course being the current section foreman. He's always been an agitated, miserable sod, but recently funds have gone missing from Union coffers, deliveries not making it to their destinations, men going missing in the factorum. All the while Lunt is nowhere to be found, and when he does poke out his head, he's fat and lavish like a Sanguinalia feast grox. All clues lead to Tobas Frakking Lunt. And today's the day the Union is going to do something about it. You realize you've been talking at some speed, the thought of your family being aced at home driving your nerves. Cheslin looks disturbed , taking a long draw from his stick and running his hands through his short crop of hair.
"Throne. The cunt really might be wise. We gots to let the Union know. Today could go frakking side ways if he's wise. You strapped?"

>You shake your head.
"Stowed it at work. Didn't want to risk bringing it home. Frakking soft headed notion now."

>He shakes his head.
"Naw, bruv. Come on. I gots scratch. Let's fix you before we get aced."
>You rise together and push to the rear of the platform and push aside the tarp. A chemhead is collapsed in the rightmost corner, barely lit by hanging chemlights tied to the tarp. In the opposite corner, a dealer in a black jump suit and trench coat sits, repacking a large suitcase. His face is obscured by a welders mask with a throne welded to each bottom corner, a common dealer mark.
"What'r ya buyin'?"

>Cheslin thumbs you

>"I'm strapped. Don' worry about me bruv."

It has an extremely high capacity and fire rate, and is more accurate than many give it credit for. 30 Thrones]
>[Las-Pistol. A rarity in the 65th, but obvious signs damage and rough usage devalue it. When firing roll a d20 to see if it misfires. On a 1 or 20 the weapon will simply not fire. Three of these rolls in a row will render the weapon inoperable. The weapon is incredibly concealable. 20 Thrones]
>[Coach Gun. Essentially a two shot version of what you have hidden in your office, it carries a punch but the low capacity and breach barrels could be a problem if you don't finish a fight quickly. About the same size as the sawed off, its wide frame would make it possible but awkward to hide. 20 Thrones]
>[Stub Revolver. A six shot revolver, shooting .45. A classic, and easily hidden. 10 thrones.]
>[Stub Pistol. A small semi automatic pistol, chambered in .9mil. Typically carried by low ranking enforcers, it's easy to carry, use, and fire, but lacks stopping power, which could be a problem with padded and armoured Ironbloods. 10 Thrones]
>[Trench Knife. The dealer has a variety of knives, but working in forges and illegal weapons shops has taught you a thing or three about weapon quality. The only one worth its salt is a spike like knives settled in a brass knuckle hilt. Extremely easy to hide, and good for dealing with armoured 'Bloods, it's also extremely illegal in this district.]

Three of the rounds seem to be for a grenade launcher, but you bet you can fire them from your revolver rifle at the office. Three others seem to be blind grenades, but their pins and spoons seem to be reused, implying that their homemade. You'd trust your craftsmanship, but this is an unknown quantity. The last three seem to be giant firecrackers, with studs and metal shards stuck into the case. At the bottom of the divider is a literal fragmentation grenade.

Cheslin reaches into his back pocket and offers a clinking sachet of thrones, slapping into the dealer's hand. You take the vest, and the dealer fishes out the revolver and knife. You widen your stance to compensate for the swaying of the shuttle and the bumpy ill maintained roads as you unzip your your jump suit half way, securing the vest to your chest. You almost feel bad for Ches, but he has you strapped and protected for a reason. Without you, the plan fails, and the mutiny collapses, and the traitor remains in the Union. You cinch the straps on the side of the vest and adjust it to comfort. You stuff the revolver, fully loaded, into your waistline with the safety securely on. You stow the knife in a chest pocket, the sheath up, so you can draw it with ease. You zip up, only slightly bulkier than before. All and all, you're rather set. Cheslin looks at you,
"Feel good?"
>You hear the screech of the thick shuttle tires and the bus lurches, the tarp swaying, sending the chemlights jangling, causing the dark alcove to dance with green light. The full stop can only mean one thing, and the roaring of industry confirms it.

>You extend a hand, and the dealer takes it a from grip, winking from the slot of his welding mask
"Pleasure doin' business with ya, chummer. Stay alive, yeah?"

>You nod, appreciating the sentiment, even if the man is looking out for his payday
"Be seein' you, coinster. Come on Ches, let's pop out."
>The burly man nods, and opens up the tarp for you to exit. You oblige, entering into the cool night air, tainted by the blasting heat of the factorum and dirty air. You secure your mask over your face, Cheslin tieing his rebreather over his facial hair. Nights on Thrull last for twenty hours, more or less given the season, but the area about the massive Manufactorum was a perpetual twilight, the sprawling complex a miniature hive in its own right, casting the area in perpetual shadow from its smokey breath and shear bulk, but the roaring flames and dazzling array of lights give it a permanent glow. The furious roar of machinery and industry muffle the yells and shouts of workers, and battle. A towering monument, the factorum and its siblings keep Kanus City alive, and thus is a hotbed for combat, both political and kinetic all hidden under the guise of bureaucratic inefficiency and industrial accidents. The streets of the 65th Industrial District because the halls of the Factorum aren't. Workers pour from the open sides of the shuttle, sliding down ladders or hopping off platforms, forming massive queues to be searched as they enter for their shifts. Cheslin crashes into an empty seat, putting a boot up on the seat in front if him.
"How we gonna crack this egg, boss?"
>You laugh, shaking your head
"I'm not your boss, Ches. You're my man, not my manservant."
>You can see his shit eating grin from beyond the mask.
"Whatever you say...boss."
>You roll your eyes
"We need to sneak in. I don't want to give Lunt an opportunity to ace us. Out in the queue? Slit throat, hamstringed, shot in the head. To say nothing of if the guards are bought out. We could get grabbed up and that's it. Get shut in a cell and that's a wrap. I don't want to risk it. We don't know for sure if the 'Bloods are in with Lunt, but if they are, we can just pop up and give him the drop."
>Cheslin nods
"Sneak up on 'im. Make it quick. Bit of a departure from the plan, innit?"

Fallout would be minimal, and the clean up a relatively quick. Now? You may have to improvise. Ironblood involvement or not, Lunt dies.
"We'll see. The bolts are still loose, and the union has planned on dealing with that plan. I don't want the higher ups scrambling for an explanation as to why I aced Lunt in the middle of his office."
>Cheslin stretches and the bus begins to trundle on as workers begin to pile on to go home.
"Well we can go through the foundry round the back, quick. Might get seen, but the smelter buys will let us through."
>You nod
"Lower risk too. Could climb the escape system, go through the 30th floor. Down to the section. Nobody aught to see us."

"We should walk up. I want to catch him by surprise, maybe buy us enough time to get some solid dirt before we hit 'im. Worst case scenario, we just ace him, toss him into a furnace, call it a loss."
>Cheslin crosses his broad arms and nods.
"Right then. We should bail now, yeah?"
>You saunter over to the stair in the center of the platform and take the steps three at a time. Gravity of the day be damned, you can't help but let a sliver of childishness peek out. You hit the last platform of the shuttle, Cheslin towering behind you. You thank the bus driver, an elder man who may as well be a Servitor at this point, augmented for continuous operation, and hop off as it stops at a traffic light. Now at the rear side of the massive complex, an interlocking web of ladders, lifts, stairs and escapes create what is meant to be a system of emergency escape routes. However, even here the Imperium isn't exactly known for efficiency, though not that the 65th Industrial District Labourer's Union complained. This horrifically inefficient safety measure helped in extorting unailinged workers in joining the "cause", in return for building hidden passage ways that help streamline people towards the escape. These just so happen to be excellent for smuggling routes, ambush points, and caches. The Escape itself is fraught with security blindspots and tent cities, workers squatting rent free in the tumble of stairs and balconies. A fire hazard in it's own right, it allows many workers a respite from the crushing conditions. Of course, this puts space on the leeward side at a premium, as access to the escape is ready and available, as opposed to the two hour walk from one side to the other. From your walk from the street to the factorum are the vast loading bays, resource yards and motorpools. Lumber yards sourced from the polar tundras and forests far from Kanus City, often delivered by nomad caravans, scrap yards sourced from all across the borough, unprocessed ore from the equatorial and coastal mines. The motorpool was mostly dedicated to vehicles used inside the factorum, loaders, tow trucks, flatbed, as well as vehicles used for transportation about the borough and district for construction jobs or reclamation. There were quite a few "de-militarized" Chimeras for Union use, those these were often put on as worker transports, which you supposed wasn't inaccurate. You wave absently to passerby and workers in lifters and dozers. You didn't recognize many, but Cheslin is a fairly well known figure, having killed a man with his hands when he was a pit fighter (the fact that he had lead weights in his fighting gloves is a fact kept between friends) and saving a family during a kitchen fire in his hab-block. A bit of a local legend, you were glad to be at his side, and have him watching your back.

>You move to the corner of the box lift, your revolver aimed at the darkness. More mortar dust crumbles to the wood slat floor, and shortly, a dark serpentine shape hits the deck with a fat thump. A good four feet long the thing is flanked by writhing fins and developing wing arms, its large larval pincers gnawing the open air dumbly, a viscous mucus running from a lamprey mouth. Another drops onto the top of the lift, thrashing as it is hung over a beam, before falling to the ground, bumping into the other and feeling around for prey. Two others are seen desperately trying to fly with underdeveloped wings, one getting crushed between the wall and the lift, the other simply slipping down to the shaft below. Cheslin curses silently, his rugged face contorted in fear, his gun trembling. Larval rivenwurms couldn't fly and are effectively blind, but their fins are as sharp as razor blades, their pincers string enough to crack bone, and their whole bodies covered in a numbing paralytic. But you're not just worried about the wurm babbies here, but the idea that a nesting mother may be in the escape somewhere, having slipped in undetected somehow. Or was let in. He slowly pulls up his jump suit, covering his bare chest. He uses his gun hand to zip up, slowly, barely a tooth at a time. You watch in horror as a wurm pushes itself through the grate with astonishing speed, and lashes as Ches, wrapping itself about his chest. It makes for his throat, but he blocks the attack his silencer, pulling the thing away from his vital area, cranking off a shot an approaching wurm, taking off a mandible. He let's go if the control box, making the lift stop with a shudder. The other whips around to you, perhaps smelling your emotional response at the quick turn of events.

>You draw your pistol, steadying your wrist on top of the other, your trench knife ready to slash out.
"EPH! DON'T!"
>You breath out, an eternity seeming to pass, your lho stick falling to the floor in slow motion, the wurm that fixed its blind attentions on you striking out as if in molasses. Cheslin cries out in horror, his wurm wraps itself around his arm, his weapon goes off again, it relinquishes its vice grip on the silencer, it rears back to strike his eyes, trembling jaws opening. Your breath ends, your lungs bottom out, a cool stillness runs from your core to your hands, the pistol steadies. You squeeze the trigger. The wurms serpentine neck explodes in insectoid ichor. Cheslin screams, but you barely hear it, and he falls to the ground, he looks up, as another wurm falls to the lift, and fires at it, ripping a rasping tendril off, before smashing it dead with his silencer. The wounded one launches forth in a semi airborne strike, but you've found your equilibrium and shoot it in the thin thorax, a spasm running through it mid flight before being batted away by Ches. The last recoils, flaring out its tendril arms and flaring its mandibles. The display is its fatal mistake as you draw down on it, and fire, sending a round through its thorax. Its blown backwards, and convulses, and Cheslin raises a heavy boot, crushing it under his heel. You scan the walls, and shaft above, your weapon aimed high. You can't hear any wurms digging through the walls, or gliding down, granted the ringing in your ears is still fresh. Seven or eight wurms, enough to kill as many men in a cramped space like this. You got lucky that none got the drop on you, or else the shaft would become an impromptu crypt. You look at Cheslin who looks at you dazedly. He doesn't get off the floor, and his arms are limp, his weapon dropped on the floor.
"You good?!"
>You ask, perhaps a little too loud, your ears adjusting again. Cheslin blinks, covered in white pulp, bug parts, and amber ichor. He smiles, drool running from a limp lip
"Cam moof. Bug slime."
>Damn. The paralytic must have showered him when you shot it. You were pretty sure it isn't deadly, just extremely numbing. You stow your knife and pistol, and grab your sleeve, trying your best to wipe off the offending toxin and gore. You move him to your side of the lift, picking up your lho stick and giving a nervous draw. That was close, and there may be more yet. You draw your pistol and the control box, sending the lift back up once more, you look at Ches, numbed and dumb.
"Can't say I don't love the smell of gunpowder in the morning."
>You say, in false bravado, you're sure Ches is going to talk your ear off about killing nearly a dozen rivenwurms, small and flightless juveniles though they were. You look at the floor sign painted onto the rock as the passing illumination from the lift reveals it. 23. You're almost there.

>Passing 25 though, you see something dark in the wall, a square spot where non had been before. You stop the lift and lower it, just enough so the spot is eye level. You walk up to the wall, and see a sliding gate of sorts, a kind of cage embedded into the wall, with wires running to the powerlines in the corner of the shaft.
"Wuzzit."
>Cheslin asks lazily, his mouth thourghouly uncooperative. You peer into the box and see the sticking residue of the larval rivenwurm paralytic.
"Frakking Throne. Somebody put the wurms here, to drop out when the lift was on. Our section is being set up! First me, now this!"
>Cheslin sputters
"Lult?"

"That's where my frakking money is. We're almost there, I'm going to drop you off at the infirmary, then get to the section. Lunt is a dead man."
>You grab the control box, and make the final climb to the factorum interior.

Going to call it here for the night. I forgot how high Ephraim's BS is, next time I want to build tension, its armoured buzzsaw servitors.

This particular manufactorum, feeds, clothes, houses, and tends to the general mechanical needs of the district, borough, and Hive Reliqua at the heart of the city. Kanus city is nearly the size of coastal America, to a Hive what LA is to a regular city. The equatorial hives produce items for the guard as well as ore and materials for tithe. The Kanus City district factorums tithe to Reliqua, then their borough and district. Everything from corpse starch production to construction is handled by these beating hearts.

>You lean down, and unsheathed your knife, sticking it into rivenwurm slurry, careful to keep the ichor onto the blade. You lift it out, sticky sheets of slime pulling up with it, which you wave off. You hold the knife out letting it dry. Rivenwurm paralytic is potent, but loses its power as they age and become more openly powerful and dangerous. Even just coagulated on your blade like this it can last for weeks, numbing someone's whole body if introduced onto the bloodstream. There's tales of ot stopping hearts and lungs, but you've never seen it. In fact your familiarity with rivenwurms begins and ends with pit fights and clearing out rafters. You've never seen larval ones this aggressive without being starved, more evidence to the set up. You blow on it, a musty stink emanating from the blade, and stow it. Unless washed off with antiseptic, that poison will keep for a staggeringly long time. Even the elevator will be hazardous to clean. Cheslin mumbles, and you turn to him, noticing his eyes locked on his old weapon
"Hol on oo i'. Usless righ' 'ow."
>You decipher is meaning, paralyzed Ches not too different than black out drunk Ches, and pick up the weapon gingerly, wiping it off on your jumpsuit leg. Thea will kill you for ruining her hard work so soundly. If she's alive. The thought returns to you. Did Tip make it? Is your family same? Is Thea with her brother? Parents? You drive the thoughts from your mind. You have to trust that they made it, distraction can get you killed, indeed almost has today. You stow the weapon in a cargo pocket, the handle sticking out. You can cover it by helping a limp Cheslin walk to the Infirmary, then reconfigure your load. Floors 27...28...29...the heat hits you immediately, the heavy scent of smoke and ash, the sounds of screams and shouts, people making mad dashes..30. Orange light can be seen in the cracks of the lift door. Cheslin groans.
