Here there be gods and monsters, magicians and aliens, and even a clown or two. But bear in mind that due to various time travel related and or multiversal shenanigans, the DC world is ridiculously complex as a whole. So I'll be running a very streamlined version of it. And to be up front about it, it will likely be shaped by my own likes, dislikes, and biases.
Oh, and aforementioned shenanigans won't be making an appearance.
Mostly.

>The Rules
I will write up the life of our young hero Morgan Barrett, a high school student who has just truly begun his career as a superhero in Gotham City as Gray Ghost, you will be given prompts to direct him.
Some things will require a dice roll to determine success or failure or something else entirely. Write In's are absolutely encouraged but I reserve the right to torpedo anything.

The voting period will last 20 minutes after the prompts are given. I will then announce the voting closed and write up the chosen response.

>The Dice
We will be using 1d100 ninety percent of the time here. Best of three. We might use something else when applicable. I'll be running with a loose sort of degrees of success/failure thing here so no real DCs.

Sometimes this whole thing doesn't feel real. The things you can do, the friends you've made. The danger. You try not to think about it. But every once in a while, you're taken back to that time. That place. When you saw dad... the way he was. You lost grip on reality. And yourself. You thought you had died.

And there's a small part of you that asks, what if you did? What if you're living some convoluted afterlife where you get to live out your revenge on dad's murderer? What if you're in a coma and this is what your mind has come up with to keep you sane? It's not something you like to think about. So it's definitely not something you like to talk about.

It was only months later, when life started to resemble something approaching normal again, that you realized just how lucky you are. You know now that your powers went haywire, so there's no telling if you would've reformed at all. You practically shiver at the thought.

Then there's mom, you still got home before she did. So she didn't have to discover him. She didn't have to go through that. Dad's gone. But you were able to spare her that at least. Stretching in your chair, you jolt a little as you're reminded of your injuries, and try to focus on class again. Though, MacPherson doesn't seem to mind how you've been zoning out.

She can tell that you aren't exactly at one hundred percent. Not that you're trying to hide it. Couldn't if you tried. But you've been using her leniency to listen in on the buzz around the school and online. It's been about a week since the bust. And people are talking. A lot.

Your name has been whispered around the old halls of the academy all week. People trying to figure out when you first appeared. How your powers work. And quite a few wondering if a masked vigilante can be sued for copyright infringement. You're just borrowing the name. Besides, hard to sue someone with no name or face.

This all stemming from two videos of you. One from a cop that was in the police headquarters when you dropped by, and another from a bystander that filmed you on your way in and out. That got some pretty good shots. You're in full view but you're constantly obscured by the vapor rolling off your body.

The opinions you're getting from the kids around your school have been pretty positive.

"His costume is sick, like a combo of retro and modern."

"How do you think his powers work? Is he a meta? Or is he using some kinda molecular destabilizer?"

"You think he's a new sidekick? Nah. Batman was on the other side of town at the Arkham hit, man."

"Sides, you ever see Robin or Batgirl do something like that?"

It's a weird feeling, hearing folks talk about you like that. Like you're two people. Guess you kinda are. But for now, you've just gotta be Morgan. Doctor's orders. If you can call Ted a doctor. You just went to him because you were started to feel bad for Alfred. Old guys got enough to do already.

Ted wasn't happy when you wobbled into the gym that night. He and Dinah took turns patching you up. You didn't think it was possible to get that kind of disappointed stare from anyone but your mom. Of course, he was mostly pissed you decided to keep going back for more multiple rounds with an assassin while poisoned.

But you saw the smile on his face when you told him you landed the Black & Whites. Hiding this from mom has been tricky, though you decided that a little truth is better than a complete lie. You told her a guy pulled a knife in a scrape you got into on the from to school. Of course, the fighting is nothing new. But that sort of shit? She thinks it's Gotham.

No matter what anyone thinks. Your injuries mean you won't be seeing any action for a little while. Ted told you to get some rest. And Dinah, reminded you that her offer about having a little session is still on the table. But you haven't given that much thought since you got benched.

The now familiar tone of the old bells in GA pull you from your thoughts. Moving with everyone else, you end up in the hallway before you know it. Your friends are all lingering about one way or another. So the question is, if you're not going on patrol, or doing any missions with the Titans. Then what are you doing?

It dawns on you, that you haven't gotten to your other favorite redhead for a while. Granted, you see her at school every weekday but that doesn't really count, does it? Regardless, you catch up with Barb before she disappears in the flow of students. "Yo, Barb. Just realized we haven't had a chance to hang in forever. You free?"

She's on her phone, as always. Though unlike other teenage girls she's usually working when her phone is in her hand. "Yeah, actually I was just gonna head home and get to know these micro actuators a little better. Wanna come?"

"Uh huh, maybe we can help each other, I've got a few new ideas for my gear but I've hit some snags." You haven't had time to draft them yet but, all in due time. This time you follow Barbara's lead and get on a different bus than you're used to, though you notice it stops in a neighborhood not far from yours. "Didn't know you lived this close. I'm assuming you're a Gotham native?"

She hops up the steps to her porch, and retrieves a key hidden in a little shallow hole in the wall, obscured by a quaint little welcome sign. "Yup, born and raised. This is the house I grew up in. Make sure to leave your shoes by the door."

Obeying the house rules, you leave your trusty boots where they can't track any mud and follow Barb inside. It's about what you expected for a family home. Signs of life everywhere. A half full pot of coffee, cold by now. Notes about groceries scrawled on a whiteboard in the kitchen. A closed pizza box on the coffee table in front of the tv. A Gotham Knights jersey hanging proudly on the wall nearby.

Reminds you of your house really. Following Barbara upstairs, you pass by another room and what you assume to be a bathroom before reaching her bedroom down at the end of the hall. You both lose the blazers at this point. Time to roll up the sleeves and get to work. Barb plops in a big comfy looking chair in front of what you believe can only be described as a battle station and boots it up after entering several passwords.

"Okay! Show me what you've got, Morgan." A little sheepishly, you hand her a notepad. She looks at it for a moment before taking from you. "A little retro. Now let's see, ooh! Yeah that could work. Actually, this gives me another idea. You wanna try it out?"

New Rules: When working on gadgets, there are a few things to remember. Unlike powers, you'll need to roll on their creation to successfully pull it off. The DC will depend on the complexity of the gadget. If the dc is not made, you can try again later on the same gadget for a lower dc. Although, if a critical is achieved. Morgan will become inspired. Inspiration will allow you to finish one gadget automatically. Critfails are not possible. Just automatic failures. Collaborations are gadgets made in conjunction with another character with the proper knowledge and skill. There's no knowing what you'll come up with together, so try it out with someone.

{Utility Belt}
-Grapnel -> Trick Grapnel - A custom modification, grapnel will have settings for piercing armor, disarming combatants, and remote electrocution.
-Explosive Gel - A formula for remote explosives, low powered but strong enough to destroy sensitive equipment or disrupt durable combatants.
-Laser Cutter - A tool for building and destroying, this can get you inside of delicate devices or cut into the defenses of a sturdy object. [CONSTRUCTED]
-Med Kit - An extremely compact kit of medical supplies, it can treat several gunshots wounds, harsh burns, counteract poison, and more. But there isn't much.
-Cryptographic Sequencer - An advanced tool that can be used to remotely hack computers and security systems. Can be jammed.
-Suppressor Pellets -> Suppressor Grenades- An upgrade to your tool. They'll be packed with more substance and are capable of putting out bigger hotter fires and insulating electricity. They'll also be made to restrain targets.

{Goggles}
--Camera (Includes video and a disorienting flash). Record what you see, handy for detective work, and learning from your mistakes. As well as the obvious.
--Ultraviolet Vision. Detects energy signatures and can even reveal traces of exotic energy at times.
--Infrared Vision. Allows you to track targets through heat and detect certain threats before hand.
--Computer Interface (Includes Wi-Fi functionality). Connect remotely with computer systems, useful for information gathering and infiltration.

-Collaboration Work-

"Yeah yeah, I think this could work! Seeing your sketches gave me an idea. I've been working on this for a while." Barb clicks and clacks away on her monster of a machine until she brings up a 3D draft of what looks like some kind of drone.

Not quite what you expected. "A drone? Aren't those things kinda unwieldy for what we have in mind?" You like the design though, pretty damn sleek. Looks like it folds somewhat for easy storage too.

"Thought you might say that, but even Bruce would be jealous with what I have in mind. I'm talking nearly dead silent rotors, a hyper hd camera and controls so slick and intuitive you could pilot the thing into an air duct." She pulls up more files and you she she's got plans to build a whole fleet of these bad boys. Barb has got some big ideas.

"Welp, let's get started. All we gotta do is take those files on over to the tower and-"

"Nuh uh." She wags a finger at you. "I can't deny that 3d printing is the future, but you can't rely on a fabricator if you're gonna make your own tools. And neither of us have butlers so we've gotta learn to engineer on our own." Barb hops up from her seat and slides open her closet, rummaging through a pile of sweaters and a loose bra you pretend you didn't see to pull out a crate full of parts organized into labeled plastic pencil cases.

You find yourself digging in looking for relevant pieces. "Where'd you get all this junk?"

"Eh, used electronics stores, hobby shops, dumpsters behind big electronics superstores, literal junkyards. Y'know." She pops a squat next to you and starts gathering your parts way faster than you can. Sometimes you forget about the whole memory thing. After a certain point you're about to let her just do it herself but her phone rings. "Yello? Dad? Yeah, I hear you. Early huh? That's great-" Suddenly, Barb remembers you're here and sighs.

"I'd better tell him you're here before he gets back. He'd get all weird about it just because you happen to be a boy. Be right back." With that, she wanders off into the hallway to break the news to her dad. But you're just a little too preoccupied with this drone. You start putting it together, stopping to let Barb cover something you couldn't do.

And a couple hours later, you think you have it. The drone is about the size of a fist. Well, Ted's fist. And the remote is fashioned from an old smartphone. But that's still pretty good all things considered. Barbara practically jumps for joy when it takes off without a whisper on the first test. And it records with clear visuals and audio. You got yourself a silent spycam. Granted, you only have one. But it could have so many uses. Especially if you need to keep an eye on something or get evidence.

>Ghost Drone acquired! A nearly 100% silent spy drone that connects to Morgan's goggles. Synergizes with some other gadget tech.

And Babs is real satisfied with the construction and testing, she's taking all kinds of notes on her computer while humming a happy little tune. "Welp, my dad should be home. Soon. He said you were welcome to stay for dinner if it was cool with your parents. But you don't have to stick around if you don't want to. I know it's probably a little awkward...

You think on it for a sec, it won't take long to walk home from here. And Mom should be cool with it. Hell, you;ll still be home early. "Huh, well I always wanted to meet the great and powerful Mr.Gordon. What're we having?"

"Probably the only thing my dad knows how to cook that doesn't go on a grill. Spaghetti and meatballs." Fine by me, you think before hearing the front door downstairs open up, accompanied by the jingling of keys. A gruff voice announces that he's home. You follow Barbara back downstairs, and pause at the bottom of the stairs when you see her dad.

A man on the tall side with hair to match Barbara's, minus the grey streaks, and an admittedly killer mustache. Commissioner Gordon. Of course! How did that slip by you? No one told you? Well duh, should've been obvious. You attempt to shake off your surprise and put your best foot forward. "Nice to meet you sir, Morgan." He grasps your hand nice and firm, but nowhere near forceful.

"Morgan. Good to finally meet you. I hear you've been a good friend to Barbara since the school year began. Nice shake." He comes in and leaves his police jacket draped over what must be a favorite chair, then hanging the holster holding his service weapon off to the side near the front door. Father and daughter share a quick hug before Mr.Gordon heads to the kitchen and rolls up his sleeves. "All right, who's hungry?"

----

Damn. Even if it's the only thing he can cook, Mr.G killed it. You're devouring the calories while Barb tells her dad about her day and he drops the occasional tidbit about his work. Sounds like he's relieved there were so few escapes from Arkham, but he's on edge about Bane being loose. Apparently, the police have no idea if he's still in the city or not.

Though it also seems that the recent jailing of the Black & Whites has done a lot for morale up there. And you were so busy chowing down that you didn't really noticed when the table lapsed in to a sort of uncomfortable silence. Huh. Well, you are the guest here. It'd be weird for you to eat all their food and peace out.

You figure he's not against talking about work at the dinner table if he's chatting about it while you're sitting here. So you might as well dig a little deeper. "So, I heard about the Black & Whites going away. Do you think you guys will be able to keep em locked up in Blackgate for a good while? I'm sure I don't gotta tell you rich guys tend to weasel their way outta these."

Mr.G let's the question sits for a bit, holding up a finger while he chews and thinks. "Well, We received several anonymous tips, leading us to evidence of illegal firearms sales, and money laundering. I'd be surprised if even the best lawyer in the world could help them dodge these charges. And you may have heard, that Roman Sionis escaped Blackgate once already. The DA is thinking about pushing for an Arkham sentence."

Barb nods in approval, sliding around a meatball she's probably not gonna eat. "Good. All three of them present significant cases for mental illness. It should've been Arkham from the start."

"It's not that simple." Gordon retorts. "The ones like Croc or Killer Moth. Hell, even Hatter. They prove just how looney they are every day they're out there loose on the streets. But these three, they took the place of the old guard. The crime families that used to own this city. They hide their ugliness, even when it's plain to see on their faces."

"So you think it's gonna stick?" You ask, cutting to the heart of it.

Gordon cracks a small, tired smile. "Honestly, I think it will."

You breath a sigh of relief. There's no way you wanna go through the gauntlet again with Cheshire. But next time, you 'll be more prepared. "So, one more thing I've always been curious about. What's it like being a cop in Gotham?"

He chuckles at first. "You sure know how to ask a loaded question, huh? I'd be worried if you were going into journalism."

But Barbara supports your line of questioning. "I think I'd like to hear your answer too dad. Gotham is a pretty unique place."

He puts his form down and nets his fingers together, giving your question a good amount of thought before committing to an answer. "I'd say that it can be one of the most thankless, inordinately dangerous, and mentally stressful jobs out there. And that's just being a cop. Gotham is all that threefold. But I wouldn't trade it for the world."

"I've come to believe that people like Batman are important. That people need a symbol like that. But they also need the police. Regular folks who are willing to risk life and limb to keep society safe. Someone's gotta do it."

-----

Not long after everyone's cleaned their plates, you're headed out the door. Saying seeya to Barb and thanking Mr.G for the meal. But right when you're about to get walkin' Barb stops you on the sidewalk and pulls out her phone. "Okay, so I'm like really plugged in. Like, REALLY plugged in. And I noticed a new incident report report filed with Belle Reve. Look who's escaped"

She shows you the image on her phone, a picture taken of what looks like an overturned Belle Reve transport vehicle, stuck to the road with ice. And there's something written on the roof in the girliest cursive you've ever seen. And in ice of course, it reads; Thank You, My Name is Caitlin. Frost got out. But she's saying thank you, so that means. "It worked?"

"Looks that way." Barb shrugs, putting her phone and and shrinking into her hoodie to escape the early evening chill. "I can't believe you cracked her gene sequence where even J'onn couldn't."

You can't help but grin a little. "I didn't really, I figured out what was wrong. But Doctor Fries figured out how to cure her."

>"I wish she hadn't busted out. They're just gonna chase her down."
>"Hey, how'd you know about this? You spyin' on me?"

You skim over the incident report and you're happy to find no mention of casualties. Just some cold security officers. Caitlin Yeah, you remember seeing her name in the files Manhunter gave you. Caitlin Snow. Either the most fitting or unfortunate name ever. "Honestly, I'm happy to know it worked but, I wish she hadn't busted out. They're just gonna chase her down."

Barbara frowns, unsure. "From what I've heard, it sounds like she never wanted to earn the name Killer Frost. Never wanted to hurt anyone. She probably didn't want to go away to super jail for the rest of her life."

She's probably exactly right. When you spoke to her she felt trapped. Doomed to either kill again or die of starvation in a cell. Guess it should be no surprise she took her first opportunity to escape. "Where'd she break out?"

"Just outside of Central. If she's smart she'll stay away from Keystone. Flash is all over that city these days. Anyways, just thought you'd wanna know that. Good night, Morgan." Barb makes to close the front door but you stop her.

"Hey, Just wanna say, your dads a cool customer, I can see how he made Commish." The more you do this job, it makes you wonder how anyone can't get up in the morning and be a op with the world you live in. Let alone Gotham. Central was invaded by hyper intelligent apes last year, the Justice League took down a giant starfish on national television. And Superman beats the snot out of hostile aliens every other week.

"Thanks, that means a lot. Sometimes, with Batman around, people forget that it takes guys like my dad to keep things normal. Seeya, Morgan."

It's gettin' chilly. Weird that you didn't notice until now. Guess you've been a little preoccupied. On your way home you notice houses decorated with varying degrees of Halloween shit. It goes from the very basic pumpkin shade lamp on their garage lamps, to a full blown plastic graveyard. Cheeky talking skulls and all. A quick look at your phone tells you you're about halfway through the month.

When you reach your front door you take a look at your barren front yard, well kept grass but not much else goin' on. Maybe you could get in the holiday spirit? Soon as you open the door you're hit with a nice smell. Mouth watering. Damn, you work your appetite back up already? Smells like, shrimp stir fry? Mom doesn't cook often, but when she does you don't miss it.

She's still in the kitchen when you announce yourself. "Oh! Morgan, hope your friends parents didn't feed you too well. I got a little inspired earlier."

----

And now you're back where your probably most comfortable. Aside from punching bad guys in the face. Eating some good food, with your family. Mom's across from you on the couch as always. Bad movie on the tv. Speaking of which. "Which Die Hard is this again?"

Mom swishes her wine around, as if it could give the answer. "It's uh... the fourth one right? Sam Jackson is in this one."

You on the other hand are polishing off a second helping of stir fry. Your new power must need more calories. "No, this has gotta be Die Hard with a vengeance. Remember? The Simon Says crap should be coming up."

"Oh my goodness, how many of these are there again?" She pauses to check her phone. "Five? There are five of these? C'mon Bruce, I know you don't need the money."

"See, three is like, the magic number for sequels. Nothing past three is good. Most of the time, three sucks too. Alien and Jaws probably being the worst offenders." Though you were mostly tired of John McClane taking on the whole Gruber family tree.

"Don't forget Robocop honey." Mom reminds you.

"Oh god, I totally had hope for that reboot. Don't ask me why." Funny how time gives perspective on everything. Robocop was a pure fantasy in eighties. Now if the Gotham PD rolled out their new cyborg task force you wouldn't be all that surprised. Probably. Anyways , time to move on to less weird topic. "Hey mom, do you wanna like, celebrate Halloween this year? Put out some decorations, give out some candy or somethin?"

She thinks on it. Making that usual frown when her thinking cap is on. "Not a bad idea Morgan, it'd give me something to help take my mind off work. We have been swamped with requests lately."

"Been a while since you talked about work, requests are...?"

"Oh! Right, well they aren't really requests per se, more like demands our funding couldn't afford we ignore." She sighs, frustrated and tired. "If you stay on your path Morgan, you'll learn one day that the world of science can sometimes be much more bureaucratic and political than it needs to be. More often than not, I'm overseeing projects that will benefit the partners of STAR labs before the city and it's people. Which is our initiative. Our at least it used to be."

You didn't know she was so fed up with work. Maybe you've been out and about a little too much. "Mom? Is that a yes or a no on the styrofoam pumpkins?"

"Yes, yes of course Morgan. I'm sure we've got some old decorations lying around." She heads for the garage, a smile on her face. Good. "I've gotta say, I really admire the people here. That evil that seems to pop up one after the other in this city... but the people just recover and move on. If I lived through the Joker I'd never want to look at another clown in my life!"

There's a lot you could say to that. "Me neither mom, me neither."

----

You depart from your house to school in the morning as usual. Your yard looking a little spookier. A couple styrofoam pumpkins and a scarecrow sitting up in an old lawn-chair is a good start. You're honestly a bit surprised when you get back to school and the buzz in the air is still about you. Apparently, the footage of you made the rounds on the news and not just social media and the like.

More people than ever now about Grey Ghost now. It's a strange feeling. You see Dick in the courtyard, just sort of hangin' which is weird since you usually don't see him in the mornings. He's always going her or there on campus. Busy guy. "Yo, Grayson. How's things?"

He seems a little on edge. Gives you a weird look at first but he relaxes. "Could be better. Bruce says we just need to focus on recovery. Guy should take his own advice every now and again."

"What's wrong, man?" He motions for you to follow him, so you do, back around through the open grounds, away from earshot of the other students.

"A better question would be, what isn't? Your little conversation with Queen B puts Slade's motivations into serious question. And that's never been so for him before. Not to mention Nora and Victor Fries slipping through our fingers. And then there's Bane. That's just a powder keg waiting to blow. I dunno man. I just feel like, with our most recent Titans mission, what are we even doing? I still don't understand the level of crisis we averted back there. It's like we're trying to fix a gunshot wound with a bandaid."
