I got a little over half tuition in merit scholarships so I paid 75k in tuition and 40k in cost of living over three years.

Definitely could not have done it without my father though. Sucks that you didnt have a good support system."

I make $35 an hour, and a total minimum of $4000 a month (rounding off) if I do the bare minimum. Can bring it up to $6000 if I do 50% more work a month, but only really do that if there's something I want immediately like a new PC without cutting into my savings a stupid amount.

Save about $1000 a month currently. Not sure what to do with the money accumulating. Either a second mortgage, a new car, or some sort of investment portfolio. Wish I was smarter with money.

My life would be WAY easier (in many ways) and cheaper if I didn't have a girlfriend, but she gives me status, emotional warmth, and a drive to succeed if only to impress her and insure she stays around. Before I had a girlfriend I didn't have any drive to succeed, but since getting one two years ago it's changed my life around for the better. Gave me a reason to work and better myself, and catch myself every time I start to degrade... Like right now, since I'm on r9k and spent all day masturbating."

It used to be my daily ritual a few years ago. Once in a while when things aren't going well, or sometimes shortly before things stop going well I find myself here and browse/post a lot while I figure shit out.

Right now my problems are ED causing relationship problems, porn addiction, work stress, and life stress. It's been about two years since I solidly got my shit together and sometimes it all starts to overwhelm me and I toy with the idea of being a NEET again. But I come here, and get back into that mindset, and it gives me an uneasy feeling that physically overwhelms me and makes me stop toying with the idea.

This board is escapism, where the competition is who can be the biggest loser. It's easy to win, and winning is great when you've had so many losses. Even if you're victory is to be the biggest lowlife of them all. And if you lose? Whew! Someone more pathetic than me!

I think that's why I'm here. To feel good about myself. I'm wallowing in pity today, but not the type of pity I used to look for on here. It's almost as if my stepping up in life has made this a place of comfort, and not only a reminder of how far I've come, but also how far I could sink down if I don't get things back together fast.

The me of a few years ago would both long for and detest what I've become."

Those are the expenses of a lowerclass apartment, split in two with my girlfriend, who herself makes no more than I. This does not count car insurance, which my mom pays (in exchange for running her errands in my off-time), and phone bill (I'm still on her plan). A car is non-negotiable, as US cities are culturally organized for automobiles, outside of more upperclass pedestrian friendly areas (IE a downtown high-rise). Why the fuck do westerners rent? What's the point of paying $800 dollars for a permanent hotel when you can draw a loan from the bank and buy your own house or apartment. If you ever want to move, you can sell the house/aparrment at a higher price so the whole thing is almost free in the long term. I get renting if you'll only be staying for a half a year or something but renting when planning to live there for an indefinite period is idiotic.
In comparison, if you rent you waste 10000 per year on a place that isn't even yours, and from which the owner can kick you out for any reason. That's no way to live."

You're not looking at the sample group that you're asking. Most of the anons here are college age or younger. Teens and early twenties anons rarely buy houses. Most are moderately transient at that age so it doesn't really make much sense for them to outright buy a house when they know they're only going to be staying in that location for a year or so.

Hell I'm still not looking to buy a house because after I finish my degree I'm going to be going to Taiwan. Older groups tend to settle down and buy, young do not."

That's the case where I live. Most people live like misers and stay with their parents until their late twenties when they can afford to buy an apartment and move out. Sure, a good house/apartment costs $30 000-$50 000 but the wages are poor and average $600 dollars."
