Owner is literally the most cliche basement dwelling loser you could imagine, it's like he's out of a cartoon. Fat, greasy hair in a ponytail, always yelling at people behind the counter. I stopped going. It's only five min from my house but the service is so bad I willing choose to instead drive out an hour instead to go to a used electronics store (games/movies/cds) instead since the people there aren't stuck up their own ass.

It sucks having to drive far but not dealing with the fucks in my local store makes it worth it."

My local store is fantastic. Constant new, good stock because he actually pays well for it. Prices are very reasonable usually average completed listing on ebay, often a little less, damaged or incomplete items are properly discounted. Ultra clean, ultra organized and actually sane, friendly staff. Its dream like compared to what i see others have."

"Big one is generic pawn shop. Like many other people mentioned, understocked and sports games. However, a pretty fair selection of intellivision games still in box.thereason they've been there for so long is because nobody has one in my city. Really good for 7th gen. $5 per each AAA title.

The other one is a record shop. Prices are always super fair, because he hunts for bargains of people getting rid of stuff in bulk and wants to keep it cheap for the community like he does with his records/cassettes. Shelves are ALWAYS full and I guarantee anybody hard ass here could find anything they were hoping to buy at a price that may suprise them. In fact, I got solstice in excellent condition for $20 cdn. Looking online beforehand, there are many euro carts and people trying to sell higher, likely because of the craze about the music. Really cool guy, has a passion for his job. Always happy to support him. Just unfortunate I don't have a lot of time or money for games anymore.

The first pawn shop is pretty sleazy about their buisness practices. I've heard from a friend who used to work there that they have people go bargain hunting in other stores to buy stuff there and mark it up. Tried giving the record shop owner a heads up considering all the games he's got in stock, and he already supposedly knows the faces of the current people who try doing that and will flat out refuse doing buisness with them."

"My experience at a brick and mortar retro store:

>walk in, a bunch of pokemon garbage everywhere
>head towards the ps1 section, pick out a few games
>only one of each console on shelves so they can control which units leave the store first
>guy asks me if i need help, i ask him if the consoles have been tested
>get his assurance each one is tested with games, cleaned, and then shrink wrapped
>purchase a ps1 with some games and a memory unit
>get home
>9 paper towels with alcohol just to get the brown grime from decades old semen, sweat, and food residues off the power and eject buttons alone
>test game after game
>none of them works
>test game i know always works, it doesn't on this machine
>know the problem is that the laser reader needs to have the potentiometers adjusted
>get angry that i was lied to when the console consistently boots the sony logo but refusts to read any game ever
>go back to the store, ask for my refund
>guy tries to sell me some other possible fucked console
>tell him no, i'll stick to reliable vendors online
>tell him i don't trust his store when they would lie to me about something as simple as cleaning the consoles, let alone testing them with games
>walk out and never go back there again

When I go to garage sales/estate sales/Goodwill stores, at least they're upfront and admit they don't know if the hardware works, therefore, I don't pay a premium. But for someone to look me in the eye, lie about cleaning the consoles, lie about testing them with games to make sure they work, just so I pay a premium on the guarantee, those guys can fuck themselves."

I should add that I have a Klein Tools MM600 multimeter that I could easily have diagnosed the problem with to adjust on my own, but on the principle of having been lied to when I in good faith wanted to support a local store, left me in no mood to fix shit that they assured me they'd resolved before shrink wrapping the damned product."

Is there like, any store at all that does the right thing and actually does NOT suck ebay's or Gamestop's dicks to price their games and they also give good reasonable prices that are not abusive, rigged, fixed or downright retarded !?

Like, if they sell any copy of SMB/Duckhunt for more than 2.50 USD, you know they are no good, and sorry if this sounds like a stretch/strawman, but, i dont think games like Contra, Megaman 2, Zelda shoudl cost $25 for the fucking cart, heck, $15 seems a bit too much for those, and i mean, the typical widespread common ones, and no, i am NOT asking them to be $5 either."

its in philly and the owners are used to trash trying to steal and get over on them, so dont expect to have a pleasent time trying to ask questions and shit, they will pretty much brush you off, but then they later apologized, so that was fine i guess.

their stuff is generally ebay prices. i havent gotten anything thats broken yet, and they clean carts/buff discs before you walk out for free. i really had to sift thru their n64 collection because it seemed most of the pins were in mediocre shape, so i chose the best looking rogue squadron cart there. works perfectly.

i got there if they have something i want and i really dont feel like taking a gamble with dishonest ebay sellers, even if i might be paying roughly the same price, give or take ten bucks. they also give you a great trade in deals if you arent a coke head looking to get money back to buy drugs.

Mine is no longer in business as of about a month ago, and I can't say that it bothers me. It's easier to find games at pawn shops or facebook/craigslist/garage sales now that they aren't scouring everything local for stock. It was a shitty store and it was inevitable that it would close.

They were only around for a few years but they fucked local prices pretty bad, haunted thrift stores and such so you'd never find a thing.

They were the type to not price games and then use on their phones right in front of you if you were interested in purchasing. No discounts, and just standard pricing even if the game was in poor shape cosmetically. I do miss trolling them about ebay prices and that they should be 10% -shipping less than pricecharting."

The area I'm in has a few, let's go down the list:
Closest - Got closed down a year ago because the nigger that ran it would offer 10% for a game, then try and sell it the next day at higher-than-ebay prices. Enough people hated his shit.
10-minute-drive-away - Very good selection but I have no idea how this dude prices his shit. Some stuff is way over costed, other stuff is like half what ebay would charge, and there's no pattern. Grabbed super metroid in box from him for $50, but he also has a loose pokemon red for 45, dude is odd.
half-hour-drive - Small as shit selection but good prices. This place has been open the longest, but it looks like they're on their way out. They keep having sales and it seems like their inventory keeps clearing out. I went in once about 3 months ago to find less than 3 shelves worth of games. It's pretty depressing.
hour-drive-away - Huge fucking selection of games, a lot of them I'd be hard-pressed to find anywhere else (and a lot of fucking imports) but their prices are ebay or higher, and they tend to be cunts about buying things. To make matters worse they have bullshit hours (2pm to 8pm on Monday, really Kevin?), so going there always seems to be a fucking hassle. I fucking hate these guys because they have their heads up their ass and don't seem to know what the fuck retro is, but this is the only place I've found to stock 'romhack' cartridges, so they're good for that at least."

They're all shit. Everything priced at ebay buy it now prices that never sell, not sold listings. Some even higher than that. Always a gaggle of neckbeards that don't bathe playing Magic in the center of the store. The smell? You can't even imagine.

It's been years since I've been in, so maybe it's gotten better. I haven't had a reason to buy games after getting everdrives for every console."

They're pretty much all the same. Fair prices. Ok selection but nothing spectacular. It's been a while since I found something at a store that really excited me, since I own pretty much everything I care to own for the most popular consoles now.

The owner is also notorious for sniping any decent local offers on digital sites as quickly as possible and reselling them for a huge profit. The people who work there are mostly friendly, and I've actually bought from them a couple times in the past. 25 cents? No... Not unless I'm buying a large lot. When its under five items it's hard to get away with under 2 dollars for alot of newer games that aren't worth a damn. Either I'll get them for a dollar a piece which usually isn't worth it. Or I'll politely turn them away.

It really sucks when people treat you like a pawn shop. I had a guy from a trailer park constantly trying to get me to buy something and hold it for a week so he could buy food for him self. Luckily I put up a sign recently that I will not buy anything not related to what I'm doing and he hasn't come back.

You must be dumb. A cartridge can be listed as in good condition. Theres usually pictures and a description of the item/s for sale. The box and cartdridge are two different things. The box could be in good condition and the cart could be in bad condition. Sometimes the box is sold by itself, mostly the carts are sold by themselves.
