This release has been such a ride. Mauve, Mint and Blue all sold out by the 3rd hour (in that order), and then everything was restocked. Mint completely sold out after that.

I'm excited for my mint dress to arrive! I don't have any mint in my wardrobe but I felt it was the most versatile colourway, so I went for it. To me, the mauve and blue colourways lacked contrast and depth. Did anyone else get anything from this release?"

I went for the navy dress and I'm so excited! I like the lighter colours too but for some reason I was really drawn to the combo of the pink, green and blue, it makes me think of a pond with flowers floating in it.

I hope VM keeps doing these rereleases in these types of colours. Not saying they should never experiment or anything but judging by the fact they already can't keep many of the colourways in stock it's clear this is the quintessential VM style everyone loves and will throw money at them for rather than elasticated waist dresses and that weird coral."

I think there is a lot of wasted potential. The ivory x blue looks fine, but the other colourways should have been all black and a more dusty lavender - more like the Antique doll OP. I still hope that this release does well. I want more non printed dresses in the future."

They have two usual models (not counting Kurumi who models for them occasionally) which are designers. If I remember correctly the taller one (she has a more oval/longer face) is around 5'4" and the shorter one is around 5', maybe even a little less. I remember her being quite short."

Depends, is the stuff you plan on making super classic lolita specific? If not I think you could probably market towards gen z tiktok aesthetic trends like cottagecore or academia and do decently well the same way generic kawaii stuff appeals to/works for sweets without being called sweet lolita.

Classic lolita on its own is probably too niche for conventions though, unless you have a big local comm that really likes classic or something."

What this anon said is true. >>10670652

It's too niche to make money off of classic lolita as a general-item related thing. Classic lolita isn't nearly as popular as most of the other sub genres right now, considering the second hand market prices are dirt."

Really appreciate the responses, and you both bring up excellent points. Ideally I'd want to make enough to cover costs of manufacturing a given item, but also wouldn't want to have to hold onto a bunch of unsold things either so considering more popular adjacent styles makes a lot more sense.

For accessories I'd just be looking toward covering cost of materials with any extra things made after making some stuff for myself.

I do apologize if my initial statement sounded like I'm trying to make a quick buck though, that's definitely not my intention."

And then an unshirred JSK which maxes out at 70 cm as well. While 70 cm waist is not comically small, it's certainly not a fatty measurement.

But I also have a couple shirred JSKs that would probably fit an 80 cm waist, possibly bigger. It's really not consistent at all, but they're not the only brand that has done this. For example, I have a Meta skirt from 2014 that maxes out at 66 or 68 cm but the JSK of the same print maxes out at maybe 90 cm lol, that's a huge difference."

Their skirts are notoriously small, the official measurements are always a lie. But that's why their JSK waists normally go up into the 80-90's range"

Their skirts fit 23.5-26 waists. That’s not crazy small. I’m neither tall, nor underweight and fit in it fine
The regular dresses are much bigger. I have AP OPs with smaller waists than a lot of IW"

>using inches
As I explained, when I say small, I mean that the actual measurements are usually about half of what the official measurements state, anon. The majority of IW skirts state they go up to 70 or 72cm and some even 74cm, but it's pretty well known that most will only comfortably fit up to about 66cm because the elastic they use has very little give. That gives most skirts about a 6 cm range of fit, rather than closer to 10cm depending on the piece."

It's not an IW only issue really. Elastic skirts from AP and Meta run way smaller than shirred OPs and JSKs. Their shirring usually maxes up between 70 and 75 cm, even if the measurements say 80-85. Full shirring skirts from Baby may be a different matter tho. You would probably need a waist under 70 cm for a comfy fit.

>tfw 74 cm waist
>tfw every time I earn a bit of weight, I can't really fit into my skirts anymore

Sucks because since I'm tall with a rather large build, corset skirts are the most flattering to me"

The closest would probably be Sheglit. Excentrique did shut down in 2018, so your best bet would be mercari/fril/CC. There was a pretty big drop last week on CC but it got bought up really quickly."
