To mix kawaii UwU with teh goffic darkness in one room would require some tone in between to soften contrast between these two. If your room is that crowded like pic you posted it might introduce too much of sensory overload.

Let's assume thy by gothic you mean victorian home decor style with black stuff. Historically victorian was a style of very "crowded" rooms - zillions of pictures, crotchet napkins, etc.

But how to mix these both in one room - dunno.

In one apartment - well indeed idea to leave your room as it is and make living room it's own gothic inclined - seems the best solution ATM. Maybe if you try making living room look somewhat in style of >>10773362 you would be able to later come with some idea how to mix stuff in your room with gothic (or what to get rid off).

The quickest solution to introduce into your room some complementary to gothic living room elements is to add them not in black but in lilly/purple etc colors close to palette already existing in your room. I mean like if you have black framing in living room add the same framing in bedroom but in color close to pink. If you have victorian furniture in living room add similar in bedroom but in color close to pink etc.'

Thanks this is really helpful! And I did mean the victorian gothic stuff that is also cluttered looking. I have a lot of pastels in my current room and i thought about introducing the color palette with black like you said, but I think it will be too much of a headache for a confusing looking end result. I think i will just keep the uWu and the gothic stuff in separate rooms, but i’ll add a little complementary color of white into each room, so it’s a little cohesive as a whole, apartment wise. White is definitely a good intermediate color for that. I wish i had one cohesive aesthetic because my place would look really cool, but i think it can be cute to have different looks in different rooms

>>10773362
Aw this is cute but this kind of thing won’t go with any of my clothes lol. My closet is half uwu pastel anime and half gothic victorian and sometimes two things should not meet'

The main thing that I look for with craft room decor to decide if it's just for the 'gram or if they're serious is the size/type of table, task lighting, and whether they have doors or covers on at least part of their fabric stash. I don't know anyone who sews that has a perfectly organised stash like most "craft inspo" shit, so it's nice to be able to hide half finished stuff and random bits of fabric behind doors rather than have mess on display. Threads are easier because they look nice in colour order on a wall, but different sized pieces of fabric look messy fast. Also, if you don't have a huge table or floor space but the room is quite large, then how are you even laying / cutting patterns?'

If you mean deeper stain marks like ring shaped stains that formed under flower pots standing on furniture for years and getting overwatered- even them can be eridicated, not with sanding tho but there are chemical processes you can apply to get most of substances that sunk into surface out.

As for older furnnitures with shellack finish you can remove old coating and apply new finish of fresh shellack and reach french polish level making them look brand new.'

They started disappearing from goth's wardrobes/apartments earlier than 1st millenials hit 18. Also even these would be insisting that goth is only silver when asked back in the '00s. I shit you not, there are interviews recorded. The process of "getting rid of brass/gold for good" took place more or less in 1995-2000. Reasons are unknown to me tho. Maybe goth just followed mainstream fashion here and there is nothing more to add here. Or maybe it became associated too strongly with "steampunk crowd" that was gaining traction around that time and didn't shed that association fully yet even tho steampunk is pretty much dead fad at this point. To see so called "tradgoth" wear it nowadays is like meet a Big Foot in the wild. As for back in the '80s you can easily find tons of photos in which goths wear brass/bronze items (silvery metals dominate but brassy is still very noticeable) - earrings, chains, belt buckles, bracelets typically. They are seen in like 1/3-1/4 of photos from that time. You can still see brass worn in earliest years of WGT festival. Good luck finding photos (they are veeeer rare) or seeing someone in the club wearing brass nowadays. DESU I'm kinda fed off of seeing silver on black all the time.

Posting a nice photo of black room with wood and wicker item's that I find interesting. Good example that you can mix various wood tones and black and introduce brass and green details. Also these lilies are nice touch. Still looks dark yet not that much stereotypical cheap "paint everything black because creativity is not for me and it helps to hide that I suck at mixing different pieces of furniture" we can see a lot online.'

As for mixing brass and silver you can mix them flawlessly if you introduce tonal gradient of complementary colors. Other tricks used is separating silver stuff into certain areas of the room. Look pictures in these article https://bobbyberk.com/a-stunning-victorian-home-that-embraces-period-details-and-modern-touches/ here are several silver/gray items like stove or sink faucet.

Also mixing silver and gold/brass was nothing unusual in for example baroque period.

But I get that you might not be a fan of these type of mix.'

Looks neat. What exactly was broken?

Hmm Douwe Egberts can plus price in Euros suggests that you might be from Netherlands or Germany? If memory serves me well there was kind of a trend for such looks in furniture (e.g. colonial style, french style etc) in Europe somewhere in between 1975(+/- 5 years)-2000 so there is good chance that some of these items from back then are going out of homes to thrift stores/antique shops or straight up garbage disposal points. Some of them might be even older pieces. Wooden ornamented furniture been a hot trend in countries of southern shore of Baltic sea up until late 19th century and even later. Restored pieces from that era are worth huge amount of cash nowadays.
Maybe try placing an announcement that you are interested in purchasing furniture of certain designs (maybe you have some older catalogues of such furniture if they were mass produced) – these are not items too much in vogue nowadays (normies often consider them to be "old fashioned bad taste") so you might provide an opportunity to actually sell their troublesome furniture for better prices (or for any price if no one else ever been interested in them) than thrift shops would offer them and provide you with an opportunity of buying them for prices lower than in thrift shops (that charge additional money on top of what they purchased them for from former owners).

Also maybe certain cities/towns/villages are more likely sources of such furniture. It might be worth looking into it. You know like these that have older tenement houses, or ad more nobility or industrial factories owners than others. Some demographic-historic reasons that may cause higher chance of population owning them - more people in same area owned them bigger choice and lower prices might be possible.

There are also new pieces that seems to be manufactured in areas between India and Indonesia that are of similar prices as that wardrobe you found. But I have no idea what is their quality.'

one of the hinges was broken and the back plate and shelves had some wood worm damage. both the price and the repair work were out of my depth so I decided not to buy it. I understand the thrift store owners want to make a profit.

You have some great points. I probably have more luck looking at thrift stores in villages where the population and the houses tend to be older. The second hand marketplace online is also a good option because people accept lower prices if it means you'll be picking it up, there are also people who don't value (or know) what they're selling and they just want to get rid of stuff so their asking price is lower than it would be at antique/second hand shops.'

I'm in the Netherlands and the prices for furniture like this can really vary depending on what kind of thrift/second hand store it is. I was shocked by the 350€ price tag because in another second hand store in the same city it would be 125€ maximum. But stuff gets sold so quickly there that if you see something it's usually already sold. The Netherlands has a second hand online market called "marktplaats " where everyone can try to sell the stuff they no longer want, antique looking furniture varies in price there but I've seen some wardrobes like this for 150-200€.
I've also been looking at antique looking bed frames but they're nearly always a weird size (no standard sizing yet) and I would need to cut my mattress to fit which I don't want to do.

If I find something suitable I'll share it here.'
