What wood types would be best? Most common used at my shop are poplar, maple, white oak, mahogany and other exotic rarely
What joining system should I use if I want something a little better than pocket holes but don't want to spend time dovetailing (and have never done so, and would take me ages).
What finish should I use if I don't want to have to refinish for at least another 10 years?

General carpentry/bookcase thread I guess.
Show me what you've built to give me ideas."

There's a handful of non-carpenters that work at cabinet shops. Receivers, shippers, truck drivers, etc. I'm a receiver and do mostly paperwork and inspection of materials and outsourced fabrications all day."

If you don't care about how long it takes, I'd just make a small bookcase of the exotic wood"

It's an idea, it can't be small however. I'm planning on about three 3'x7' bookcases. I do much prefer the dark woods though."

>What wood types would be best?
Poplar or Pine, inb4 all of the anti-pine faggots start spamming me

>What joining system should I use if I want something a little better than pocket holes
Steel Corner Braces, easiest to use, strongest of all joints

What finish should I use if I don't want to have to refinish for at least another 10 years?
Polyurethane, the more coats you put on the better"

>What wood types would be best?
Oak if you want to stain it. Maple or other pretty woods with a clear coat.
>Joining system
If you want a clean look, use dowels. You can also use screws and cover the holes with dowels, but it wouldn't be as strong.
>What finish?
Poly. Take the time to do multiple coats and lightly sand between each coat."

Pine REEEEEEE Pine pine pine, pi-....
>notices inb4
oh.. uh... carry on...
but srsly, I did my workroom shelves from pine, and it's OK... it depends on what you want. if ya want good solid shelves, wark and antique looking, that would survive for years to come and be more than just mere holders of the books, then pine is definitely not the best choice"

Make the bookcase out of all the different scraps of wood you can get and just lacquer/poly that shit. Use pic related to put it all together"

How about a stylish cabinet for your PC? Remember ventilation but do add noise damping on the insides."
