It isn't any better than its direct competitors like Nikon 35ti
Thing is that there aren't many of its class available, as even Konica hexar AF is not as pocketable"

A couple years from now the flash capacitors in these $3000 shitsquares will be bursting into flames (assuming the motherboard doesn’t literally disintegrate from age) in Frank Ocean & Kendall Jenner’s pockets, definitively ended the ridiculous hype around them. Icons now, paperweights in a decade.

Hell, a $40 SLR with some shitty 3rd party 35mm 2.8 lens is sharper than this trendy trash.

That said I would buy one in a second if they didn’t cost more than a car."

It is without a doubt the highest quality film compact ever made, but not necessarily the most interesting. I'd personally always rather have a rangefinder - I don't need a camera that's quite that small. Still, it's an engineering marvel. No space is wasted. All the electronics, af sensors, viewfinder & brightlines, flash unit and battery are squeezed into something like 20% of the camera's volume."

Pretty much. They're currently rapidly shitting the bed and are largely unrepairable when they do. There is a finite number of working T3s in the world that is getting smaller every day."

How is this not a reliable business model? I don't mean Contax owners, but someone like Olympus could bring back mjuii with a non-retarded flash and it would sell crazy."

No it wouldn't. They might sell around 10k over a few years. Wouldn't be enough to cover the manufacturing costs."

I made the mistake of buying a bunch of over-hyped point and shoots when I first got into film photography, including the T3. The lens is excellent, but that's really all I can say about it. My snapshits looked slightly sharper but were not any better than cameras that were 1/10th the price. As I started to crave more manual control I gravitated towards rangefinders and SLRs and didn't look back. Fortunately, people keep getting sold on the lie of the vastly superior Contax T2 and T3 so I actually made a small profit when I put mine up for sale on eBay.
Seriously people, just buy any decent point and shoot that looks clean and enjoy it, but don't invest serious money in one. That includes the Ricoh GR1, Minolta TC-1, Fuji Natura cameras, etc. All over-hyped and won't improve your photography nearly as much as an interchangeable lens system.
Some good but not outrageously expensive points and shoots: Canon Autoboy D5, Minolta Zoom Date series, and Olympus Mju zooms that don't have meme status. If you don't mind zone focusing, the Olympus XA2 and the Lomo LCA (original, not the chinkshit model from Lomography) are cheap and fun too. Or just any thrift store camera."
