Not in the human (chivalry) or dwarven/elven sense. In WHFB, Chaos is too pervasive in the Beastman psyche for honour to exist. However, he could respect strength in his enemies and take pleasure in beating an opponent fair and square, ie not striking him when he's down and giving him time to get back up. Some Khornate Beastmen would also dislike ambushing tactics, preferring a straight fight in the field/woods. A Beastlord could also find weakness contemptible, and not attack civilians for that reason. Nothing would stop his underlings from murdering/pillaging though.

In T9A lore (which is still in its infancy, so anything the player wants for their army goes) Beastmen are more natural and less chaos-oriented, so an honourable beastlord could fit in there if you wanted it."

Not as directly as Akatosh or something. Taal and Rhya are concerned with the seasons, and Myrmidia or Verena in their civilization roles might have something to do with time. But the Old World calendar was a bit more of a secular invention and doesn't seem to have much godly related to it.

Much appreciated, lad, now, let's see... Rordi Karsson was a dwarf of the empire, he was. His ancestors settled in the lands of men as they felt that the future of our kind lay in the kinship forged between Sigmar's sons and us. And in some ways they were right, I suppose. Many a grudge has been struck out from the Dammaz Kron with the help of the men of the empire... Even if some have been added into it due to their foolishness as well. But those are tales for another time.

Now Rordi! He was no warrior. An axe he would only use to cut firewood and a knife he only held when preparing meat. You see, Rordi owned a tavern. The tavern had belonged to his father before him, and his father before him, all the way to the time of it's building. It's survived and stood there in Altdorf and will stand for as long as that city endures. It was built to last, you see. Rordi's tavern is not one of those little wooden huts that might fall over in the breeze or burn from a spark, it is like a small piece of our mountain holds... Built to last as a sanctuary to all of dwarfkind in the lands of men, and to let them see how to properly build a tavern!

The tavern's name was Karak Brog, the hold of bread. It's been a promise to all travellers since the day it was built that everyone will receive shelter of the hold and nourishment from the bread if they are to enter. Some men call it the "Dwarven tavern" or "The tavern of runes" from the messages carved into the doorway in Khazalid, but Karak Brog is it's true name, and Rordi Karsson it's proud owner."

He was a crafty salesman, he was. He paid his respects to the ancestors and kept with the ways of old, but that did not stop him from heightening the entrance to allow men to enter more comfortably and to purchase cushions for the seats. He made friends with the best brewers of beer in the empire, most of them dwarves like he, and it is said that no matter what you asked to slake your thirst with, Rordi would smile and reach behind his counter... If you had the coin to pay, of course.

His tavern had always been popular with our kind, but it was that it began to get a reputation among the men of Altdorf too. They found it mystifying and exotic, a place to see how our kind lives... And Rordi was a talkative fellow, always telling of the sagas of our ancestors to anyone who'd listen. There were merchants from Tilea, scholars and students from the university, nobles from all corners of the empire and some say that even a few elves visited! And remarkably enough, Rordi didn't kick them out on their scrawny arses... Though tales are that he greatly enjoyed having them try some dwarven delicacies such as stonebread... Ha, must have broken their teeth on that!

So it was that one day, Rordi invited a halfling into his hall to discuss business, for he wanted to start selling halfling-made bread and pie as he knew they were popular with men of the empire... And some dwarfs too, I admit. The halfling was a salesman who would know the bakers and butchers of his kind, and his name was Malcombe Butterworth-Pinsterberry. But Rordi made one fatal mistake. As he sat down at the table to talk, he told the Malcombe to make himself at home."

Now if you haven't met many halflings you wouldn't know, but halflings are an annoying sort of folk. They're loud, obnoxious and do not understand that if you have nothing to say, it is better to not say anything than fill the air with noise. And worst of all, they think thieving... "loaning" they call it... is just fine! So it was that as soon as Rordi had said that, the fat halfling had his big, bare feet on the table, buttering up a slice of bread, leaning back on the cushioned chair and talking of matters of no import to their business together!

By the time Rordi got Malcombe to talk of matters of import, the Halfling had gorged himself on the beer, wine, cheese and bread that Rordi had set for them to enjoy after concluding their business, as is the proper way. One should use their mouth for eating or talking, not both at the same time, as my ma used to say. Before their business was concluded, however, they could not reach an agreement. It is not sure if Malcombe had simply wanted the opportunity to take advantage of Rordi's hospitality or if Rordi had become offended by the halflings manner or any other reason, but no pact was struck.

The two parted ways and it was only when Rordi was cleaning the mess the halfling had left on the table did he realize what had happened. His runic butter knife, the Gal Maraz, was nowhere to be seen! It had been his dearest possession, brought back from the very hold they had left upon moving into the empire, and was only used on special occasions or when conducting business. Gal Maraz, or "Gold Splitter" in reikspiel was, by itself, an expensive object. It had a handle of gold and an edge so keen and warm that no matter how frozen your butter would be, it would spread perfectly onto a perfect golden layer on bread."

Rordi could not believe it. For hours he searched the room, emptying it completely, and it was almost that he tore the walls and the floor apart in search when he realized that it had been stolen, not lost. It is said that he stayed in his own chamber for hours afterwards. In a fit of rage or contemplating the Slayer oath none can say, but it is known that when he emerged, he ordered the tavern closed for business and for everyone to leave for he had a grudge to settle. It was unheard of for Rordi's tavern to close, causing much wagging of beards and many an oldbeard demanded to stay, until Rordi explained his grudge.

A silence fell over Karak Brog, even the humans understanding that this was a matter of grave import... And the few halflings who had occupied a corner table slinking away. The silence was quickly broken by shouted promises of aid and demands of vengeance for the theft of the butter knife. Even if Rordi had tried to stop them it was too late. Some of the longbeards were deep into their cups while young dwarfs saw that this was a moment for them to perform a great deed and right a wrong.

And so it was that the Throng of Karak Brog marched to war. Mind you, it was merely a score of dwarves and not an army, but they knew it was their duty to aid another dwarf in need. The book of grudges, so far used to mark unpaid debts and unfair trade deals and one not touched in years due to Rordi's skills at enterprise found a new entry marked into it, every dwarf present giving their oath and swearing themselves to Rordi's service to strike this grudge out. Rordi himself dressed himself in the armor of his father's father, a bit tight around the gut but he was still a fearsome sight, the ancient suit having occupied a place of honor as decoration for the hall but now brought to it's true purpose again."

They took to the streets, marching grimly towards the Butterworth-Pinsterberry storehouse, garnering no small amount of attention as they went. Patrols of guards were curious but the dwarves did not have steel drawn and there was no law against marching down the street so there was naught they could do but to report to their superiors.

Rordi was no leader but he looked to all like a thane of a saga as he stormed into the warehouse, demanding for Malcombe to come forth, his mailed fist pounding on the desk at the entrance. It was only after a moment of shouting and confusion that it was determined by a frightened accountant that Malcombe had already retired for the evening, and would most likely be found at the Buttered Pig, an establishment much like Rordi's own, though made with Halfling crafstmanship, if one can call it that... And of somewhat ill repute.

The dwarf throng marched their way into the Pig, the establishment falling silent as the dwarfs filtered in through the narrow doorway, forming a wall of armored figures with Rordi at their helm, addressing the drunk crowd.

"I demand for Malcombe Butterworth-Pinsterberry to come forth and return the Gal Maraz to it's rightful owner, and pay a recompense of five hundred gold coin for the lost business from the hours this campaign has taken me!" he demanded. A fair deal, for he would have been within his rights to demand the contents of his storehouse and more besides, so grave was the grudge."

It was a moment of great importance in Rordi's life, trembling within his armor but not letting it show. His throng was outnumbered three to one, the establishment packed full with the childlike creatures. This was his moment to uphold the honor of his ancestors and of his clan. So it was that there was a collective gasp and murmuring from the dwarf line when from the assembled halflings came a cry of "Go stuff yerself!".

Rordi did not falter, however, repeating his demand. The halflings, timid as they were, understood that these folks would not leave them be before matters were settled and so formed into a line of their own, holding pie tins, forks and knives in their pudgy hands, the middle of the tavern emptied as the patrons chose their sides. It was then that Malcombe arrived, flanked by the owner of the Pig in an apron, armed with a rolling pin and with a kettle to protect his head.

The situation was tense, the halflings sweating profusely. "We cannot pay such a sum, hey?" Malcombe began, wringing his hands in front of himself. "And 'sides, it's yer own fault for closin' yer tavern. So why don' you take me mates advice an' go stuff yerself? Or go shave yer beard or whatever it is ye dwarfs do.". It wasn't clear if Malcombe did not know what a grave insult he had said or if he was truly foolish enough to say it to a dwarf as Rordi smashed his mailed fist into his face with a roar."

...Well, it was not exactly a fight you'd write a saga out of, but it is important to tell. The dwarfs did not draw their weapons as there'd be no glory in attacking an unarmed foe like that, and it would have looked bad within the lands of the empire to do so. The halfling with his rolling pin stuck Rordi's helmet, knocking it to the side and blinding him for the moment as both sides clashed into battle. Fists met with pudgy guts, boots stomped on toes, fingers were poked into eyeholes in helmets and beards were pulled. Some dwarfs went down fighting under the weight of three or four halflings pulling them down, only for their friends to come help, pulling the pudgy bastards off them and flinging them into the furniture. Chairs were smashed upon the backs of dwarfs, tables upturned to act as cover, flagons and trays flung as missiles.

It was well into the night that the battle raged on, both ale-fuelled sides refusing to give in, those that had been knocked unconscious coming to and joining battle again until exhaustion took them and they were left snoring on the floor, ignoring the cries of the town guards outside to demand for the fight to cease. They could not rightly stop the fight as the doorway was too small for them to properly enter, one soldier having gotten stuck on the doorway as he had tried to enter and had a bottle smashed on his head for his troubles, knocking him unconscious.

It was the third time Rordi was about to hit Malcombe unconscious again before he finally surrendered. He promised to pay back the gold and more besides, but the knife he had already parted with. He spoke hurriedly, covering his face with his arms, explaining that a rich noble from the Border Princes had wanted to buy it for his betrothed and had left Altdorf as soon as the sale was done."

Rordi was shocked and appalled, the dwarfs still standing sharing his grief. Had he taken the slayer oath then and there they would have understood, but he did not. Instead he turned to leave, leaving the tavern decimated and the floor covered in broken utensils, vomit, snoring halflings and blood, the throng victorious but it was hollow for they had failed to strike out the grudge. No matter what they would have done to the Malcombe mattered no longer for the knife was lost to them.

but if there is one thing we dawi are, it's persistent. The oath was still binding the throng, small as it was, and they knew where the butter knife had been taken. And so it was that Rordi left his tavern for his most trusted employee Snorri to take care of until he'd return with Gal Maraz. And with his host assembled, he marched out to continue his campaign, no longer merely the owner of a tavern but a leader of men, the sum of the sale for the knife returned to him by Malcombe, with which to purchase the knife back for he was no thief.

So it is that if you come across a gold-handled knife that is warm to the touch, you know who it's owner is and where it belongs. And so you know that if you ever meet a throng of twenty and one dwarves in search of the Gal Maraz you know of their quest.

So you see, there is no reason too big or small to not hold a grudge. Nor is there a creature too big nor small to hold a grudge against. But not all grudges can be solved with a sharp axe or a glorious charge... But that will not stop us from trying to settle them, even if it kills us. Now, all this talking has put me in the mood for a halfling-made pie... Just keep your hand on your coinpouch and an eye on the halfling and his mates while buying, eh?"

"I saw Bolgorg at a grocery store in Karaz-a-Karak yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and waving his axe in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen cans of Bugman's in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the cans and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any grobi infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each can and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly."

It's still bad that all the other Phoenix Kings were illegitimate. It's also bad that Asuryan never considered letting anyone other than Malekith be the Phoenix King, despite plenty of worthy applicants and the issue actually more often coming to a vote among the Elven nobles than divine right. Asuryan didn't make himself heard, didn't point out the actual candidate he wanted, and moreover, even Malekith himself didn't fully realize he didn't fail. The other Phoenix Kings passing through the flames safely had to be retconned to be cheating, because they used magic to protect themselves from the flames.

Basically Asuryan is that GM. You know, the one who makes a puzzle room in a dungeon but only wants you to solve it one way, even when you cleverly figure out other solutions or the solution that he intended breaks."

I'm with him on this one though. Most battles are either really boring or actually kind of a pain to fight, with loading time and how long the battles themselves take, and how huge the armies involved are that makes it awkward to control and keep track of. I only don't autoresolve when actually winning hangs in the balance.

That's not the feeling a Total War game should be giving me. Back in Medieval 2, I almost never autoresolved battles because they felt fun to fight most times."

I am afraid of starting to paint the spiders because I'm not sure how to make them look good. Will propably rely on my true and tested technique of black undercoat with a heavy drybrush of *color*. Stop being so salty, it's not like it's hurting anyone.

On topic, the sad thing about this guy is that in 6th/7th edition I already have enough heroes. In 8th edition he's gonna be useless unless I get him a bodyguard of Squig Hoppers.

In positive news, I can just use him as a Slasher in Kings of War instead.

Speaking of which, I could get a fluffy batrep (because I'd be using KoW rules most likely so it'd be better to just write it out as a story) out by sunday with (some) unpainted models, or should I just wait until I've painted both the Goblins and Bretonnians for that?"

40k has a problem of wanting to have its cake and eat it too - like, Space Marines are super powerful, above and beyond humanity, but half the time they also want them to human and very faliable. There's something that feels stupid when you have some of the most powerful beings in the galaxy having very petty squabbles, and acting stupid in a way that's only justified by making other characters stupider/more evil. It's like...the Greek gods, but instead of having the focus be on how their failings affect mortals, it's just all the Greek gods and their problems.

I dunno, I'm like you in that things like that drive me back to the Warhammer world. Most of the larger than life heroes were still human, and even Grail Knights or Chaos Warriors are relatively rare and still fairly close to normal humans. More often than not the great heroes are normal mortals, skilled soldiers and trained wizards - or even just average people in the right place at the right time. Stuff that in 40k has become second-rate and second-line."

Seizing the occasion to be an historical pedant:
This was only an issue for the very early artillery pieces (the other common issue being setting fire to your powder supply with the embers used for firing). Individual guns appeared alongside appropriate containers.
Most shooters went into battle with a baldrick full of individual powder charges in wood vials (as for bullets, you just kept a mouthful of those and spat one when you needed to reload). Powder flasks and bullet pouches were for reloading between battles.
Proper cartridge boxes became widespread in the 17th century.

Waxed paper cartridge also existed since the 14th century."

Funnily enough the same stood true for the British empire. Brown Bess muskets were produced from parts made in over 100 small, scattered individual workshops (incidentally, this is known as the "domestic" or "putting-out" system). Pre-industrialization you needed 30 kgs of decent quality steel to make a 3kg rifle barrel.
To make a percussion cap you need any kind of shitty solid material to serve as a plate and a grain of potassium chlorate or mercury fulminate. Both of which rely on ingredients that were decently available in the middle ages (like alcohol and salpeter), and frankly easy to synthetize. And btw, if you can make blackpowder, you already have the ingredients and gear needed to make percussion explosives.
On the other hand, metal was uncommon to very scarce in central and eastern Europe, and the Empire seems to have far more alchemists than metal mines.

Stop speaking out of assumptions that can be quikly researched and dismissed.
Chemistry isn't some rare and novel science compared to metallurgy. The middle-ages needed their medecine, alcoholic beverages, pigments...
You're focusing on 1% of the total product and ignoring the rest. The theory that percussion caps would somehow make muskets common is ludicrous. You'll run of musket way before running out of caps.
