Yea but they don't improve much - it feels like while your organic pop just snowball into expansion even if you have robomodded pattern and assembly lines on all your planets it just has the same linear small growth - it's as if imagine your entire empire gets from 1 in 10 people owning a robot to 1 in 40 people owning a robot at the point where you are a technologically advanced multi-planet - faring civ...

Like there's no demand at all lmao.

They could fix that by adding repeatable techs for robot pop growth or allow for more job buildings to reach 6 assembly rate on each planet.

Before 2.2 if I wanted to have my civ get a lot more robots and less organics I could achieve it with ease - now it feels like the whole game is locked into fixed game ideologies, it's flexibility is gone."

basically if you want to trade with an AI but they won't accept it its sometimes possible to do shit like throw your excess food or shit at them
like for example in my most recent run I enslaved primitive earth and am now turning them into a reliable source of soilent Green livestock so I am constantly hitting my cap for food
so because I am a megacorp I started giving thousands of food to my neighbours as bribes so they would temporarily like me enough to form commercial pacts so I could build branches on all their planets"

if(Anonymous && title=="" && postNumber==240526486 && dateTime=="01/10/19(Thu)05:44:43")

"So I updated my ideas for a reworked Stellaris if any of you are interested

New Ideas:
>Trade routes now transport all resources, not just trade. This means you must build trade hubs and have patrols since piracy will decrease your total resource income. Military ships also get access to a raiding ability, that allows them to capture a small amount of resources if they are on a hostile trade route. Military ships can also be equipped with subspace navigation device through the auxiliary slot. Larger ship designs as well as larger fleets will take significantly longer then smaller ships to navigate. The subspace navigation device also has a high energy cost to reduce the fleet power of raiders. This is intended to allow small fleets of corvettes to go behind enemy lines and conduct raiding and allow for economic warfare.
>Disbanding a ship gives a refund of 15% of its alloy cost. Construction ships can also harvest wreckage from space battles to collect a portion of the total alloy worth of the destroyed vessels.
>It is possible to interact more with pre-FTL planets. For example you can set yourself up as their gods and recruit armies of fanatics to fight for you or demand tribute from them. Perhaps planets in their Space Age can contribute research points, alloys, or consumer goods."

if(Anonymous && title=="" && postNumber==240527595 && dateTime=="01/10/19(Thu)06:09:53")

But how do they like you? Isn't there a cap of 100 bonus points in relationship from trade? And for that you have to give enough resources to reach that 100 trade willingness.

And I'm not even sure if you trade a 100 willingness setup if you get the same amount of bonus relationship points anyway - in my experience it's never precise much much lower."

"Funny, there were only a handful of good Ascension Perks before, with plenty slots to spare.
Now i can't seem to squeeze in all the shit i want. Can you help me discerning the good ones from the shit ones? Consider that i value research speed/bonuses and pops the most, but i'm also a sucker for megastructures.
Perks i can maybe spare:
>Technological Ascendancy: +10% research speed
Simple, yet what i need. And even yet, i was thinking of taking this one out, since i'll already go Psionic for the great research bonuses from the trait, the Shroud Pact and eventually the Shroud bless.
>Mastery of Nature
+2 districts is great for my pop enmassing autism, but considering i'll build tons of Habitats and Ring worlds it could end up being used only on binary or trinary star systems, and the clear speed i don't give a shit about. The most likely candidate to get the boot, but maybe i'm an idiot and this is the strongest perk, dunno.
>Master Builders
Since i plan to spam megastructures and Habitats, the 50% build speed seems a must, and the additional 2 districts on habitats too, given i can build research districts there. But again, maybe i'm missing some fine print or it isn't that good.
>Arcology project
Where i can't spam ring worlds, Ecumenopoleis are the name. I think they are actually pretty fucking good, or do they require a specific build to use them properly?
>Colossus project

pretty abyssmall considering you can just dedicate planets to research. The unity equivalent would be more useful if you're prone to overextending early on. Do not take tech ascendancy.
>Mastery of nature
Good if you have extra perk slots to spare, works on ecumenopoli too.
>Master Builders, Voidborne, Mega Engineering
3 perks, habitats are absolute shit which will lack housing most of the time, you CAN'T build habitation buiding and or labs and most useful stuff on them so voidborne is pretty useless. Mega engineering is pretty nice for the +50% build speed i believe. Mega Engineeriing.. Good.
You'll only ever need one big or two smaller ecumenopoli, going to stretch it and say 3 but don't take it too early on.
Always take this since it's too much of a bother to micromanage newly conquered planets"

Redesign of combat and diplomacy basically. And above all a decent ai.

I think combat would benefit the most from a tactical layer on which the player has only indirect control and more logistics for the player to worry about. The main principle for me is that the combat with roughly equal numbers and tech should result in a draw most of the time if the battle takes place on equal terms (enviroment factors). The only exceptions should be (semi) rare occasions when admirals outskill their opponent or just luckily use the right tactic (if battles were more like how land battles work in other paradox games). I know this has been somewhat adressed with the emergency jump so ships jump away when they are about to be destroyed but this makes wars largely come down to who wins the first battle.
For all of this to work though it's essential that the ai uses the same strategies and tactics, but also would be able to fight defensively if it can't win offensively. As it is right now the ai will always try to attack a fleet or place were it knows it can win. This means that 'choke' points are only used effectively by human players, if an ai knows it can't win a war it won't try to set up an optimal defence in those systems. Also all ai's fight exactly the same with the only difference be their preferred weapons.

Battles can be designed as either land or sea battles of other paradox games, it doesn't really matter as long as there is some tactics and overall strategy involved."

if(Anonymous && title=="" && postNumber==240536757 && dateTime=="01/10/19(Thu)08:56:15")

Combat is hard to redesign. Its not just the tactical layer, because in a 4x the impact of economic power is massive. I dont think theres any 4x where combat is really "balanced". Its shouldnt be an rts (although paradox dreams of stellaris as such)
>redesign diplomacy
Its already as simple as it gets, it needs to be expanded massively before it gets redesigne."

Sending a fleet to the other side of the galaxy shouldn't be a something that is done on the fly and should take preperation. Campaigns that are done with less preperation should be less effective. For example they could introduce support ships or intergrate land forces within naval tactics. Let players use their armies to set up temporal supply bases on dead worlds. For this to work armies should also have dig-in bonusses and ground battles without air support should take a long time to win. Also maybe ship and army experience could be something that increases and declines depending on the number of academies you have, if their was a way to send them on practice, generally how discipline works in Eu4. But this could also decrease if you have been at peace for a long time, simulating people retiring from your forces.

Missles have never been really usefull or good in the game other then the very early game. So why not make them very powerfull but give them a limited use give ships only a limited amount of them. Just like how ships need to repair their armour now. At the same time maybe the defense for missles could be limited as well in the form of anti missles. This would give huge benefits for empires who fight defensively near their supply bases.

Combat is still too deadly for ships maybe their weapons should have optimal ranges instead of just maximum ranges. Ships also manage to focus their fire to easily this quickly gives the side with a slight numerical advantage the means to steamroll their opponent. Maybe fleets could have different formations which you can choose from, giving a battleship a wing of picket ship destroyers that will always stick with the capital ship they're supposed to screen. Have combat be in fases like in HOI or other paradox games, design tactics of which admirals semi randomly choose one depending on their skill level. These tactics could be in the from of long range bombardment or maybe kamikaze attacks."

Most 4x games dont simulate supply, some however abstract fuel range. Honestly the addition of fuel wouldnt change a great deal, because most wars happen around neighbours/allies.

There is almost no tactics or strategy now stellaris lacks any real sort of strategy other then use 'choke' points, which the ai doesn't use properly. Long term strategic planning is: choke points, ship design, admiral choice and military doctrine. Any tactic you can use is where to fight, which the ai doesn't do at all. Battles should be more predictable when the numbers are somewhat evenly matched on equal terms, namely it shoud be a draw in most cases. The only exception could be an admiral taking a good decision or setting up a superior strategic position (better location for enviroment bonusses, better supplied forces, better trained forces). Of course for everything I propose, the main condition for it to work is for the ai to be able use it fully. It is already not functioning so it really can't be any worse. What I propose is by no means a way to 'fix' the combat but I feel the combat in stellaris is lacking compared to other paradox games and misses some 'grand strategy' elements. That was the question what would you redesign."

>On the day it is to be launched an alien fleet comes around looking for it
>Ship crew accidentally fires up an boopie trap that causes the ship to use its super duper main cannon to blast couple of ships from orbit
>Ayys start waging war over this
>Ship warps to orbit
>It accidentally takes the entire island it was on with it to orbit, along with two aircraft carriers and the entire civilian population of that island (who were inside underground shelters at the time)
>Ship turns into a giant part military part civilian ship that has to try and figure out the systems out while fighting against the ayys while also trying to keep the populace from revolting or something
>Captain decides the best course of action is to hold an idol competition to give the civvies somebody to oggle at
>Vid related girl, Lynn Minmay wins and becomes an instant pop star
>Later on it is discovered that the giant ayys really like music and "culture" in general
>They quite literally sing an entire faction of aliens into defecting to human side during the show"

Destroyers have a niche as dedicated point defense boats and rapid response ships that can carry large or medium slot weapons. Use them to protect big ships from missile/torpedo corvettes, to be able to move large weapons to a place at roughly corvette speed, or to support cruisers in an anti corvette/destroyer fleet.

Cruisers are good at deleting things smaller than them and pretending to be battleships until you get real battleships. Stack accuracy boosts on them and pair them with point defense destroyers to have a dedicated anti corvette/destroyer fleet.

Cruisers have no place on the battlefield when battleships and/or titans are present. Destroyers sometimes do as support ships, but it's not always better to use them over mixing picket corvettes into your screening fleet."

"Another issue is that unless you're authoritarian or a gestalt consciousness, overpopulation is inevitable. This is a problem that is as old as Rome: Total War is.
When you go beyond the housing capacity, stability comes crashing down. Egalitarians, if I recall, only have access to 'discouraging' growth, which means a lot more upkeep and only 1/4th of the growth rate.
You can dick over xenophiles and/or egalitarians by doing the following:
>Go authoritarian
>Make a disposable planet
>Genemod the population to be rapid breeders and fill the rest of the trait slots with crippling penalties such as deviant (less governing ethics attraction), solitary (more housing usage), wasteful (more consumer goods upkeep), and decadent (less happiness as workers and slaves), because sedentary is useless as a negative trait, the traits with less resource output will make the pops go to jobs that don't have this penalty, slow learners only kicks in if the xenophile empires picks them as a leader, and non-adaptive will mean they will have less of a chance to become a majority on a planet
>rapid breeders means they will eventually become the majority in any planet that is also properly habitable to them except the xenophile's capital world
>as an authoritarian, the planet is a resource sink but you can cut off their rights, such as no migration and on-demand population controls
>The method of pop-bombing xenophile empires is to have a low housing on the planet, so that you can use the excess population planet decision to kick some out to become refugees
>xenophiles cannot decline refugees"

Biological is the best if you are autistic enough to pile-up traits on different populations and micro them exactly where you want them to be. It is technically the best. It is also daft and micro-heavy, so I don't pick them unless I want to prove something to the micropenises on Paradox's forum or I want to nerve staple some elven sexual slaves, which I can't do right now because Elves of Stellaris is still not updated.

Psionic gives some decent bonuses, is micro lightweight, and give decent traits if you do some shroud from time to time.

Synth has the same issues than with robots in 2.2: the eco is broken because of heavy energy consumption and a somewhat lowered growth, and everyone want growth in 2.2. It's an enormous bother. You can make it works, it's just that much of a bother in an economy that is bothersome to begin with."

USA are either neutral or xenophiles if you're using Stellaris' ethics balance.

Not that it fucking matters but there are people that unironically think that 'militant isolationist' describes the USA at any point in it's history, it's very much trying to fit a square peg into a round hole when people apply Stellaris ethics to real places, considering most countries are, literally, 7 or 8 different ethics at the same time, easily.

I've went through game files and took all the numbers to balance out the best ratio of universal accuracy, tracking, shield + armor nullification then rapid hull nuke and I got these weapon slots and weapon types as being the God tier - obviously their latest upgrades being the best, but even their started tiers are OP.

I haven't theory crafted Battleships yet, tried with Cruisers but the best Cruiser build with game items ended up a requiring 80 - 100 cruisers in my calculations so fuck that lmao.

While pic related fleets early, mid maybe even late ( require huge numbers ) peel through multiple enemy fleets with little causalities because they just nuke them quick... and because also having a relatively decent number of Destroyers - you tank and nuke in a single skirmish all enemy spaceports too with a single fleet... bonus points if you research destroyer hull points.

So for every 30 corvettes get like 10 + destroyers and you're golden, I've forgot the precise number I've calculated - but you can never get wrong with more destroyers as they literally tank for you.

Oh also looking through files - the extra dimensional invaders weapon seem to be the best in all situations."

How do you usually create your ships? I generally make coordinators that are all defense and hunters that are all offense. 4/3 split and send them off (until later in the game when I can have larger fleets).

Also, what type of weaponry is best? I usually load them up with missiles as I don't seem to notice their weakness at short range making any discernible difference in combat at all. But I read that beams are best due to optimal at all ranges.

Same question but for defense. I usually fill all slots with armor and one with a shield as that with the +75% to shield tactic seems to be enough.

>>plasma cannons early game
Oh yes early game I would use a blue laser ofc, but it shouldn't take you more than 30 years to get plasma canons.

If you were to go with a 2M 2S destroyer design, you'd probably be able to roll with 100% of those.

It ends up being worse than having more corvettes that are specialized in auto canons - because of the DPS + tracking + penetration values, I've based by designs purely on game data nothing else.

>Neutron launchers
They're cool and all but they're slow projectiles - so you have to plan around having your ships hit early before engaging + it also goes beyond my point of easy to research universal beasts.

If I wanted end game corvettes and destroyers check my new pic:
Line one is my first preference If I want smaller, optimized fleets - maybe have multiple of those.

Second is for my doomstack, which is just a guaranteed nuker of everything big or small as a fleet.

~40 destroyers
~40 corvettes
Maybe I would get even more torpedo destroyers."

>Oh yes early game I would use a blue laser ofc, but it shouldn't take you more than 30 years to get plasma canons.
Not my point. When it comes to dealing with high-evasion targets, a UV laser dishes out more DPS than a plasma thrower, even if they're on same level of research.

>They're cool and all but they're slow projectiles
You may want to check that again, there's some fuckery going on in that department.
I might just be imagining things, but I find that enemy ships take damage long before the projectile graphics indicate an impact.
Maybe I should test that.

>it also goes beyond my point of easy to research universal beasts
I've recently come to consider the idea of wholly avoiding plasma.
It's not very useful in the early game where corvettes are plentiful, and by the time larger ships show up, the far more powerful proton launchers start knocking.
I'll be researching launchers either way (most important weapon in the game as I see it), so I might as well use the lasers, which're a prerequisite tech."

>Maybe I should test that.
Do that, each projectile does an insane amount of damage except in fight it takes a lot of time for each to reach.

If you normalize its dps it's the same as the one I gave you in the picture so you could safely ignore ROF so to speak - but keep in mind that the projectiles are slow anyway.

>UV laser dishes out more DPS

Check my second pic out of late game fleets - for corvette intensive fleets I'm considering lasers for the same reasons you pointed out, but those lasers become worth using only around their last rank lmao - until them plasma canons are best in slot.

Also new pic check this out - let's compare the raw data together and make our minds. This is a journey a discovery not a dispute of cemented opinions."

Made a battleship with arc emitters, kinetic artillery and neutron launchers.
Sent it against some angry space farts and set speed to slowest.

Just another exquisite feature from paradox. I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that all weapons (aside from missiles) have instant impact.

>late game fleet
Eh. I'm pretty firmly rooted in battleships at that stage.
Aside from torpedo corvettes, I don't think there's anything that has a chance against late-game battleships.
Then again, I've never been up against a pure BB fleet, and never bothered to do proper tests against one either.

Nice, I wonder why paradox hard-coded the cool-down for proton missiles then, this changes everything - I shouldn't even bother to normalize DPS, I should just take it as raw as possible - at least that means no damage normalization should be done for kinetic, energy weapons etc. as there is no game feature for the speed of projectiles.

Then Wiz actually made a good ethics-switching mechanic in Utopia. A whole system where different things happening in the galaxy push or pull pops towards different ethics, and you need to accrue enough domestic support to switch. To be honest it's one of the deepest and best mechanics in Stellaris (I know that's not saying much) because it's actually integrated into the other game systems - traits, diplomatic treaties, etc.
The only problem is that Wiz made this good system for once, but forgot to add in any reason to interact with it, because the rewards of using it properly are fuck all."

Ultimate picky eater here: I literally do not eat any vegetables/fruit, with only a few being edible if sliced into extremely tiny pieces or blended into a drink. It's most likely something to do with my autism, but I just physically gag to the point I'm near vomiting because of the texture and taste of most of that. Surprisingly I'm pretty skinny, because my diet is just fast food, meat, and noodles (very few/no vegetables of course). How the fuck do I make a lot of science per turn? When I play with friends, come turn 100, I'm like half the science/turn they're making. When I start the game, I try and push out another settler before turn 20, then make a settler and send to the new city to get things going there. Then I make a builder in capital and start doing shit. I build campus and libraries first but even doing that I struggle in science.

How the fuck do districts work? I usually try and find a 3-4 tile area where I can plop all my districts down without deleting resources. Is there a better way?

Any specific civics I should be going after? I usually just let that shit ride and pick willy-nilly change the civicthing when I need it.

Once I've passed a certain point my chokepoint fortress systems become pretty much invincible with the citadels themselves having well over 100k fleet power each and I really hate having to sit around and wait for 300 years for the end-game crisis to show up for my defenses to finally be relevant.";

>with the citadels themselves having well over 100k fleet power
Explain, in detail, how you get this high. I'm stacking all the bonuses I can and I'm maybe 45k tops on a citadel.
Do you just set tech cost to x0.25 and go 300 years into repeatables?"

if(Anonymous && title=="" && postNumber==240747810 && dateTime=="01/12/19(Sat)10:37:10")

I mean when you're in the early 2400's and you've already got 135k power fortress stations plus 3 or 4 160k fleets roaming around your borders it's not that hard to imagine. As for the great Khan, he just yeeted in the opposite direction, conquering weaker empires."

if(Anonymous && title=="" && postNumber==240747912 && dateTime=="01/12/19(Sat)10:38:42")

This is what most traditional 4x games do yes. But this is nowhere near as nuanced as a with empires growing and declining because a decline of a larger empire never really happend in any game. Imperial overstretch as a concept is also widely criticised but simulating this would make the eb and flow of power feel more natural and make an actual domination far more difficult."

Max citadel, tech at x0.75, eternal vigilance and defense super-computer, plus giving the citadel all guns and no missiles. Got a few repeatables since I was in the early 2400's but nothing that should drastically increase their power. If you're playing turtle the defense super-computer and eternal vigilance stack becomes insane."

Are you even insulting, rivalling, and otherwise being a dick to everyone?

You need to create longterm hatreds early and stick to them while not buffing your passive diplomacy in any way, empires should literally be forming alliances against you and instantly declaring war as direct results of your belligerant diplomacy.

Also this is why you make 30+ custom empires available to play against to ensure there will be several competent, consistently strong empires in direct conflict to anything youre playing, instead of leaving this entirely up to randomized generation which generally fills the map with worthless species, xenophiles, low tech mongoloids etc with zero impact past 2250. RNG will have you competing with, at best, 2 capable empires that will have impact by the time its 2400"
