/dog/ feeding:
Get the facts about the raw feeding myth. To date, no dog or human has experienced malnutrition or poor health because their food was cooked. If you buy premade raw food, you should cook it via sous vide or a pressure cooker (most quality kibble is pressure cooked so nutrients don't leach into oil/water).

Are you interested? Just ask. There could be lots of reasons why depending on if it's a temporary or permanent thing, but remember for some breeding is a business, and it may be time for new blood, or just for that female to retire from breeding for their own health, and the breeder might not want to accumulate dogs that aren't part of the program anymore. Hope that's not too cold of an answer, but many breeders don't just keep the dogs as pets, the ones who do are usually back yard breeders (which isn't always bad, just needs the same due diligence)'

My boy started Palladia a few weeks ago, and it seems to be working well (no new tumors have emerged since the first week, and the ones he already has have largely remained the same size or shrunken slightly. One of them has ulcerated a bit, but we are keeping it clean. His appetite is completely normal, and while he has tired days (taking Benadryl to keep the histamine under control) I think he's still having good quality of life. We've been on more than 40 miles of walks in the last week alone.

The one thing that concerns me is the changes to his body. It feels like he's lost muscle mass all over. He's not too weak to do things, and he jumps and climbs up furniture like normal, but I can feel his spine where I couldn't before, his skin feels like it hangs looser on him, and his legs muscles softer than they used to. I assume this is an indication of disease progression internally, but I'm curious if there's anything specific we should check for. We've got another check-in with the oncologist in 2 weeks. Any advice on getting used to seeing and accepting signs of decline? I'm trying to be really aware of his quality of life, so far he seems happy and satisfied.

'Got a dog from a shelter on Sunday. She’s probably 2, about 20 pounds, looks like a cross between a mini Aussie and maybe a long-haired dachshund.

The shelter told me she was picky about food and sent me home with two different types of wet food. Sunday night, she wouldn’t eat either type of food, or liver treats, cheese, or cream cheese. She ate a little bit of roast beef but then lost interest. Monday morning, she wouldn’t eat anything. I called the shelter and the shelter vet said that the shelter staff had been giving her high value treats to get her to eat, so she was picky and had an upset stomach. Told me to keep giving her metronidazole and a bit of anti-acid, but basically wait her out until her stomach settles and/or she gives up on holding out for high value treats.

Dog is coughing up bile the way dogs do when they have an empty stomach, has tiny runny shits (how is there anything still in there?), but otherwise seems okay. She is drinking.

I have a vet appointment on Thursday morning but want a gut check on whether the shelter vet is bonkers and we should go to the emergency vet.'

Nice, it's good to be able to trust your dog. Lol wut? Literally easy mode dog, golden retriever tier. Like a german shepherd without aggression or bred for as much health (most people don't even care about MDR-1 or merle) because of their overly attached, overly submissive personalities. I'm not your boogeyman, husky hate schizo. I'm just saying most collie owners have an easy time and they're easy dogs. The barely need training because they're so attached and submissive that their owners mood functions as inadvertent operant conditioning. Very rarely is one mentally ill or a neurotic working champion and they break this pattern, but most collies are easy. They are THE dog for a new owner or someone that just doesn't want to put a lot of time into basic training, since most breeds care about your opinion a lot less.

You see collie owners on bikes because the dogs are borderline self training due to reacting to their owners emotional state as reward/punishment conditions, while say, a malinois owner would not be able to just hook their dog to a bike and expect good results because the dog has interests greater than the owners feelings. Even a lab is more independent by nature and likely to cause a bicycle crash doing that.

If you're having problems with your collie i'm sorry but spending less time on 4chan sounds like a good way to fulfill their needs. Even if you're reading a book you have a free hand and lap for your dog to get the handler attention they need, something they don't get when you're posting on a laptop.'

the sheer number of mini aussies following their owners through the suburbs agrees. collies are just easy to own.

i also see a lot of huskies so they're probably not as demanding as people make them out to be, just bad if someone is a hardcore owner who expects their dog to march alongside them at a perfect heel and gets unreasonably angry at stopping and sniffing "because thats what good dog owners with well trained dogs do!" (i also see 99.9% of the collie owners allow stop and sniff! maybe this is why they are so easy going, no stress from over-training owners that probably should have got a malinois)'

The point still stands

Herding dogs are not easy to own because they are trainable.

That would make them easy to train.

Learn how to separate the general from the specific.

Furthermore, they aren't easy to own because so many of them end up in shelters or are surrendered. Dogs do not get surrendered because “oh he was so easy”.'

i would absolutely recommend a collie breed to a new dog owner, granted your breeder matches you with a calm and affectionate individual, dogs within a breed can vary from your lifelong rock to spending their life acting like they smoke the rock, but generally the thing that holds true with collies is they pay extra attention to their owners vs other breeds. they are the dog society told you to expect.'

I dont ever recommend "beginner" animals. Lets say someone say "Okay poodles are a beginner dog, get a poodle". You might not like poodles, or want one. Maybe they're okay, but you really want a german shorthair or something, but you get the poodle first because "good first dog". Now you've got this dog thats not the dog you want for 12-15 years before it dies. You'll be an entirely different person by the time the poodle dies and you can get the shorthair, you may not even want a shorthair anymore and now you dont get to have one.

Get the dog you want, there's no such things as a beginner dog'

Most sane person ITT. Some animals are 'easier' than others but all animals require care and when it comes to dogs, the jump between not owning a dog and owning a dog is far larger than the jump in 'difficulty' (effort?) in different breeds care requirements.
Like, yeah some breeds do require more stimulation, or more grooming, or more socialization than others but whether or not that makes it 'easier' or 'harder' is entirely down to you, your lifestyle and the amount of time effort you're willing/are physically able to provide.'

Your anwser is radically different compared to the vast consensus of dog communities, a BC for example is never reccomended for new owners or even beginner ones. I mean if you think like this, then you probably already have an opinion that no breed is off limits for new owners even though that is bad practice by itself, we give reccomendations and difficulity scaling so both the owner and the dog have no stress and issues as much as possible to avoid things like the owner giving up and throwing the animal to a shelter and the animal's physical and mental health ending up worse.
vast majority of people cant really physically and financially handle "complex" breeds with zero experience so its simply best to start small.
You don't want more dogs in shelters do you? One of the main reasons why are there so many because people ended up realizing they cant handle them.'

Ok heatherfag, you can stop now. I'm not interested in replying to you or your made-up scenarios. You have deep-rooted issues (mentally) that will not be solved shortly quickly or through the internet. It's ok. I know why you are the way you are… it's not your fault. Only changing is your responsibility. Accept that because you love-bomb someone with compliments and share hobbies with them doesn't mean you can manipulate them. Manipulation is wrong.

>If I repeatedly pester you, you earned it
>If I obsess over you, you deserved it
