I think it's okay to discuss both. Japan's 'new wave' isn't that accessible for most people outside of the country. Hatra is pretty good and I think they've come along way since they were mostly doing hoodies, which are admittedly incredible quality but I just didn't like the cut being oversized in body with standard sleeves.

The silhouette of that jacket looks quite nice; I have a more standard down jacket with a corduroy inner collar as well, although I dislike that type of fabric. I was considering buying pic related but I was unsure about size and colour, although I am leaning heavily towards black. Are you wearing the heart jacket and chloma transform pants? I have the latter in purple and liked the former but probably too much for me to justify atm.

Did you just ID every piece of clothing on me lol. Yes I was wearing the transform wide pants and the heart jacket, honestly shocked you could tell from just the collar.

I have the mirage denim in indigo from 23SS and it's honestly one of my favorite pants, hands down. Downside is the print almost never comes out as nicely as their display samples, on mine the swirl is on the inner thigh. The hip is super tight which makes the front pockets almost unusable, despite that the fabric is great (a really tightly woven light ounce denim) and silhouette is perfect for my body shape. 10/10 would buy again.

On their hoodie I got the chance to fondle one in their 23FW showroom, the pattern was interesting and the fabric was super thick, wasn't 100% convinced to buy it.

This upcoming season was kinda underwhelming desu, if you've seen the lookbook most the ideas are recycled from past seasons. Will be saving my money for the upcoming Chloma collection, can't believe they skipped a whole year.';

I do like the blue mirage jeans, I just have a dislike of blue jeans in general. These are probably the first I've seen that I do like, which is why I'm having trouble deciding. I think the price is reasonable enough for something fairly unique though so I'll probably grab at least one of them. I don't really like their lookbooks because they tend to be overedited and more performance-y than actually showing how the clothes fit. I think polyester has something of a bad reputation because it's associated with cheap junk clothing, but like any fabric there are different grades of it and it's not inherently bad. I don't think the quality is bad, but it's also not something to gush about. I think of the items I own, the two shirts I have (three arms, shell sleeve) and LCL jacket are the best. When you buy stuff from brands like this it's important to understand that yes, you are overpaying for design, but you're getting something unique that you can't get anywhere else. Sometimes the quality lines up and sometimes it doesn't. I would also say that, in my limited experience with the former, Hatra has better quality than Chloma and Balmung.

The japanese brand list is mine and I'm not OP. I was surprised to see it, I just compiled a giant list of all the brands I've personally found and purchased/worn because in August last year someone needed brand recommendations I think and I just listed off every old/mostly recent brands I had listed down in my private discord DMs to my alt account because I was looking to get more into japanese fashion so I could get back into it since I was getting mostly bored of EU/NA fashion shit

Also 180cm 55kg, in jeans I'm a 28in. I wear the size 1, I can wear it without a belt because of how tight the hips are. It's long enough to reach my shoes without creating folds.

On the topic of Chloma quality, they use mostly women's fabrics so it won't be thick textured poly/nylon like Stone Island or Arcteryx. It's on the thinner/drapier side. Personally I'm a fan, but not surprised if people find it cheap feeling.

Generally japanese brands will fall into the design camp or the materials camp. The more design you put into a garment the more it costs for patterning, sewing, factory samples etc driving up prices. Not everyone can compete at Sacai prices so usually brands that do more design will need to creatively cut costs.

I don't use it much, but I lent out a few pairs of my Nonnative denim jeans and everyone I gave them to reported to me that they were very comfortable, interesting in appearance, and garnered a fair amount of compliments

Sage de Cret is something I've been using basically as my lounge wear, but can be worn casually out. Their pant inseams tend to be short for taller guys, but it doesn't look terrible. A lot of the pants have an elasticated waist as well. the pair I use most I got for about $30 (retails like $200-300 on greedy faggot websites) and the material is decent, it's a size Large and can fit a size 30-36

I couldn't find shit on it and I do not remember where or when I bought it, but I purchased something from a Japanese brand called "CCP"

Yeah I tend to justify the price of vis and cottle type brands in term of embodied work. Thousands of man hours go into r&d of unique fabrics and dyes. Hundreds more into the actual fabrication, natural dying, etc. It also includes paying all these craftsmen and designers fair wages.

I've touched up some of their stuff in person (Haven stocks them) and definitely interesting fabrics. They have a super textured nylon that feels like Prada.

Tangentially, also reminded me of another brand called Cycle. This one is Cycle by myob, they do a lot of interesting patterning and cuts with upcycled materials. I've wanted their rib MA-1 for a while but when I eventually tried it in person the sizing didn't fit me.

Sulvam is the main one with the founder being an ex yohji pattern maker iirc. You can also just search "yohji" on Mercari without using the actual brand filter and just browse until you find similar niche stuff. Another thing you can do is just find random oversized shirts and pair them with bottoms of your choice for an imperfect but more budget friendly imitation. Sasquatchfabrix, my beautiful landlet and some CDG might be applicable too but you'll need to dig around a lot and it won't be 1:1 exactly what you're looking for.
