>Sprezzatura
>Gary Cooper

No. The cooper collar was made popular by Gary Cooper in the 40s, it was his collar of choice. Instead of the collar being stitched onto the shirt, it's made from the same fabric as the shirt itself, it's all one continuous piece. It doesn't button but it's otherwise an upgrade on the shape/structure of an OCBD collar and allows for even better collar roll.

https://www.allandavidbespoke.com/post/cooper-collar

It's unique since it's less common now but I don't view an American collar from the 40s as "sprezzatura". It's one of those things like a Hollywood waistband that's flattering when you wear it but isn't seen much anymore because it takes more work to create.

I'm a huge fan of Luxire and Propercloth. You can also do Kamakura and Spier and Mackay.

I've never used nattyshirts but the reviews are very mixed. If it goes right and they listen to what you ask the shirts are great for the price, but if it goes wrong and doesn't fit you're fucked and their customer service is less than stellar. Check reviews on Styleforum and askandyaboutclothes.'

A simple stitched leather belt works with almost everything. The second most versatile is braided leather. Good to bring down the formality of a tailored jacket or dress shoe, or just wear in any casual outfit. And then i have western, motif, and pattern belts. Those are obviously more niche but it can be cool to have a conversation piece like that.
I guess stitched belts are "dress" but that kind of completely plain one feels more formal to my eyes, and also just wrong/incomplete.
1-1.25" is definitely the standard even for casual belts, depending on your height. 1.5" and above starts feeling overly cowboyish.'

Any insight on buckle material? i know they say match your metals, but i dont know how important it is for belt buckles. i like the look of brass with black and brown. i usually only wear a stainless steel watch as my only piece of jewlery. somtimes bracelet but mostly on a leather or nylon strap.'

Its not a 700€ pair of shoes so don't expect extremely high quality but they are pretty well made for daily life.

But for a first pair of loafers they are good enought.

Then if you REALLY like the loafers get some paraboots, They are almost the same quality of the 180 from JM weston but for half the price.

I don't really like how the trousers or the colour of the shirt look together, or even with the coat. I've never liked how blue stripes look with olive barbours, I think a white shirt would look so much better here. Even a dark olive or grey linen or brushed cotton might be nicer. The belt is fine, but I also think a braided belt would be the better choice. The boots are sexcore but I like them. Overall, not a fan of how everything is working together here.'

Meermin is okay if you're on a budget. My first pair was Meermin and they're fine, where the price savings goes is the finishing. Sloppy welts and poor QC but structurally solid

Lucky you. From a dark corner of the internet...
>I welcome corrections, but from what I can glean, Muffy used to be very aggressive in promoting her and her husband’s genealogy and ivy/prep bonafides. Some people noticed that there seemed to be some discrepancies with the couple’s real names (which they themselves had made public), education, etc.
>Now, a background check shouldn’t be required to live in a nice town in CT and have an appreciation for Barbour jackets, but Muffy had been so hung up on “authenticity” that people were rubbed the wrong way when it seemed that she was misrepresenting herself.
>If this seems innocuous and dull it’s because it should have been exactly that—but Muffy did not react well and proceeded to ban IP addresses, release supposed genealogy reports, possibly use an alias in comments sections to defend herself…allegedly…This only made people more annoyed and they found where her husband may have reviewed his own book on Amazon and other shenanigans. Really there’s nothing as crazy as JB ruining Ivy-Style, but in the fallout Muffy completely rebranded, changed her official bio etc. etc.
>I’m sure that she would claim that it was a reaction to her privacy being invaded or whatever, but she was the one who put it all out there, and then freaked out when the life she presented as “authentic” was subjected to a little scrutiny.
>None of that means that her dad’s photos aren’t great, or that you can’t take her commenters’s suggestions on where to get the best bowl of clam chowder, but by her own standards her bullshit purity tests about what’s preppiest are just as silly as they seem.'

My hot take will be not exactly. If BB shirts fit you properly, the fabric, cut and quality is still decent. The problem is not all BB shirts are equal.

https://www.brooksbrothers.com/the-new-friday-oxford-shirt/MG04239.html?dwvar_MG04239_Color=Yellow

The basic oxford shirts are now alpha sized. Previously you could get a better fit when they had neck and sleeve options ie 15.5x34. If the standard alpha size fits you properly, lucky you, if not you have to pay double price for the "Made in America" line which is still neck x sleeve sizing. Basic oxford is $98, miUSA is $198.

J Press is priced in the middle of the two, but you have can select different cuts, neck and sleeve and it's still miUSA. Also you can easily get discount codes to lower the price down so it's comparable to the basic BB OCBD price wise.

There are some differences detail wise between the two. I find J Press fabric to be thinner and lighter, more suitable for spring and summer. BB oxfords are often a little thicker and age better IMHO.

That's solely for retail. On the secondary market, BB beats the shit out of JPress. Vintage BB OCBDs (including miUSA) are exceptionally common on eBay for low prices, JPress is much more rare and often priced near to retail. There's also more diversity in colors and patterns for BB OCBDs on eBay compared to JPress.'

Today's fit. Wearing Sebago loafers. I know some of them are shit, I really like this pair. These are one of the "hand sewn" line, incredibly comfortable, they fit well and the color is really interesting. The seller I bought from listed them as black and they mostly are, but I swear there's shades of a dark brown coming through too almost like a teacore. At first I thought someone just used black shoe polish on a dark brown shoe but nothing came off when I did a thorough cleaning. I'm interested in seeing how they will age over the years. It's a type of leather dye where the leather in question starts as black and then fades with brown undertones.

https://www.stitchdown.com/how-leathers-age/how-teacore-leather-ages-patina/

https://www.heddels.com/2020/03/teacore-leather-whats-it-all-about/

To be clear, I don't know anything about these shoes beyond basics of how and where they were made, I'm making a completely uneducated guess based on the colors I'm seeing. You normally see teacore on more "work" oriented articles of clothing like boots or leather jackets. These are more casual beef roll loafers so I'm curious what will happen as they wear.'

I think he understands this by now and that's why he doesn't post here anymore (at least not "as himself").

makes me wonder where the hell he thinks he's taking this or how dressing like this serves him in any way. He's said he wants to become a tiktok fashion influencer or some shit, but even what little there is of a scene there wouldn't really find his shit appealing, he'd be operating in a niche within a niche, and his gay alien ass definitely wouldn't be able to skirt by on his looks to get any attention from the normies who would otherwise tolerate his outfits. so who the fuck are his outfits for? Definitely not the kinds of faggots and aspies he presumably hangs around with on discord, he's probably the only person in his rung who has worn a suit anywhere that isn't a wedding or cosplay event

I figured that if they do get the heavy use, the Loakes will be worth it. Maybe I should just get the Loakes anyway so that I do own a "good" pair of gyw non-corrected calf black oxfords, even if rarely gets uses. I suppose then I'd get 15 years or more out of them with light use? The clarks tier will always be corrected calf so they'll never take any of the care products well when then inevitably need it, even with no use. Not all Sebago are crafted equally though, make sure you're paying for a decent shoe and not just the name.

Honestly boat shoes are supposed to get wet and be beat up, you aren't buying it expecting some Goodyear welted masterpiece with exotic leather. They're supposed to get salt water on them and get beat to shit without being slippery.

thats all i'll say

You arrogant ass acting like you're doing anyone a favor by gracing us with your presence. Kindly fuck off Doug, I'd rather see a thread languish and fall off instead of a flurry of activity around your pathological need for attention.

Baldpedo: Do not engage with Doug, we were mercifully free of him for the most part, just had to deal with occasional comments about him, sort of like an annoying but inconsequential herpes flare up. Don't give him the mental justification to come back.'

>High waisted light was jeans

The problem is the "light wash". There are plenty of companies making high rise raw denim. If anyone wants to explore that, fo here, plug in the measurements you want and check the recommendations out.

https://www.selfedge.com/index.php?route=selfedge/jeanfinder

The issue is more companies are making light wash jeans, but they rises top out below 11.5 inches or they hit 12 but the jeans are shit and aren't pure cotton. (Levi's, washed Wranglers, etc). I haven't seen a modern pair of high rise light wash jeans that fit all my criteria, and I've been looking for a while.

eBay is really useful here. You can search for old miUSA Levi's, Lee, Wrangler, etc and filter by "high rise". You'll see a bunch of options for lighter washes that are still in great shape for well under $50. These are Lee jeans from the early 80s that I got for $20. 13 inch rise, good fabric, may be the sort of thing you're looking for.'

Now this is an interesting area for discussion. Suspenders aren't really "formal", they're simple a substitute for a belt. The shoes look to be wingtips, which again aren't formal. The chinos do look to be a heavy fabric but they're still chinos, they aren't casual 5 pocket pants or jeans. A knit tie is also pretty casual as far as ties go, you can wear one with chinos and not clash.

His fit is playing by the "standard rules" of trad/prep, but those rules were established in the 40s-60s. He's not breaking any rules, but the fit may just look off based on the modern standards of fashion and what most people consider "formal."'

OR

Doug gets a job, meaning he's out of the house for a few hours a week. Maybe his social skills improve just by being near normal people. Maybe he gets a job that gives him a sense of pride. Maybe he gets money, buys clothes that fit well and are made properly and has a eureka moment and realizes "Holy shit they weren't fucking with me, I really did dress like shit and there was a better way to do it." Maybe he even finds what he's looking for in reality and doesn't need to lurk online.

....fucking hell Doug I hope you learn how to human at your new job. Stop samefagging, stop pretending to be other people to talk shit, etc. Ask yourself how people know it's you on a goddamn anonymous forum.

For useful answers:
1: It is a woman's coat. If the buttons are on the left side, it's a woman's coat. That's a holdover tradition from when "proper" women had a maid servant to button their clothes for them. Buttons on the woman's left means they'd be on the servants right hand side.

2: Can't help on an identical male model, I'd say look into overcoats, great coats, duffel/toggle coats or pea coats etc if you want a button up coat that's functional and more formal.

For casual, chore coats and field jackets. Look at Carhartt duck jackets, Barbour jackets, and military M65 and OG107 jackets for overall styles. Tons of brands have equivalent jackets for each of those, with a little digging you can find an LL Bean jacket in most of those styles for way cheaper even with international shipping.
I know you like doing extra shit so try this: Wax a jacket yourself. It's cheap to do and hard to completely fuck up, get a decent Bean jacket and some wax. Take a day and apply it yourself, will completely transform the look and feel of the jacket and it will age beautifully. Make sure it's a fabric like cotton or canvas and you'll be fine.'

thanks, ill see what i can find for that
i briefly considered getting a duffle coat a while back
i never thought you were fucking with me, by the way, i was aware that with every outfit, regardless of the concept i was coming up short on execution because of what i had to work with and how it didnt quite fit, looked cheap, or didn't totally go together, i was just trying to make do and enjoy what i had anyway. a lot of that was definitely my fault for not being more choosy and cutting corners, as well as not having my priorities totally figured out

I dont really want to change my whole style and buy things i don't already want, i'm not about to throw out any of my ties or shirts, but im gonna try hold off buying anything too "out there" and building out a more general, everyday, versatile, and, yes, more /tip/ base wardrobe so i have something i can actually wear those shirts and ties with without it being disjointed/clownish. stuff like plain dress shoes/loafers in black and dark brown, conservatively colored and patterned suits/jackets/pants, standard no-frills jewelry, etc.

I dont regret it, its high quality (by your standards, even), but that pale-green 90s dB i bought barely goes with anything, holy shit'

'I recently bought some goodyear welted shoes after only ever really wearing sneakers. Just some oxfords but I want to get some nice loafers next. I’ve looked at a few fit guides to understand how they should fit and I think I’m pretty happy with how they fit but I still have a few questions if anyone can put my mind at ease.
1. When my foot is in the shoe, it feels comfortable. The sides of the shoe hugged my toes and I would describe it as a little snug. The length seems to be good because there is almost no heel slip and whilst the shoe is snug on my toes, there are a couple centimetres from my longest toe to the end of the shoe. The shoe also seems to bend at the knuckle of my toes without any pinching which is supposed to be the correct place. I cannot fit a finger between my heel and the back of the shoe though, is this an issue or is there anything else that I should check for?
2. When I first tried to put on the shoes, it was difficult and required a fair amount of effort. I didn’t use a shoehorn but I had to push down and forwards on the ground to try and get my foot to slot in but when it was in, the shoe feels completely comfortable. It is almost like I could walk around comfortably with even lacing them up so definitely not too big. Maybe this is because I have only ever worn loose shoes and sneakers so I’m not used to this. Is this difficulty getting the foot in normal?
3. I have fairly thin and shallow feet and the shoe does feel snug and comfortable, but I do have flat feet and I notice that when I take a few steps, the inside of my foot starts to bulge out of the sides of the shoe a little more. I’m concerned that this might make the shoe unsightly over time as it stretches and almost deforms inward to accommodate my foot/arch rolling inward. Do you think it’s worth trying a wider fit for flat feet or would this make the shoe feel huge around my toes and heel? I’m not sure where the extra width typically is.'

1. If they're cap-toes the toebox will not stretch. Snug is good, tight is not. You should be able to wiggle your toes slightly.
2. I wouldn't worry about this but you should buy a shoehorn. They're cheap and last forever and are useful.
3. This is a non-issue as you say the shoe feels snug and comfortable. Buy shoe trees and keep them in overnight and they'll retain their original shape.'

if the general ended right now it would kinda suck for me since i've only just started the "doug redemption/mentorship arc" if thats how things are going to go
i still have something to prove and it would be pretty dissapointed if the people i wanted to prove it to just left before i even started
but i guess it would also be pretty funny in a way, i get up to all this annoying attention seeking faggotry for months having people think im never gonna change and then when i finally do decide to change and it looks like i might start wanting to get attention the right way for the right things, the partys already over and everyone went home

Really nice color and texture combo here. I'm a not a fan of this style of collar, I think a button down or a tighter spread works better, this is one of the few times I'd say a larger knot would look better since there's a lot of empty space with a 4 in hand. Collar points are under the jacket which is good to see, looks like it fits well. Overall that's pretty good, there's a lot going on with the patterns but it doesn't look garish. I like it. What does the rest of the fit look like?'

For fucks sake Doug. If you want to change, dip out for a couple months, and I mean completely leave. Don't read the thread, don't post. There's no vital information here that you can't glean from Styleforum, Askandy, etc. At this point you have to realize your posting behavior is basically slapping a huge "kick me" sign on your back, you aren't retarded ( I think?) so you probably understand why people don't like you.

This isn't a queer anime, you don't get a redemption arc where everyone will kneel out of respect if you post a fit that isn't shit. Take a step back, work on making a "boring" fit that doesn't have 800 patterns and colors but fits properly and fits well, when you have that figured out then post again and don't do the wallowing catty samefag shit.

At this time you have zero reason to post unless you like abuse. If you want to prove anything on 4chan you're fucking insane, but proving you can disengage and make improvements can only be done if you demonstrate you can actually change for the better.'
