resolute 710/711 by far, if you are above or below average height. they're the only japanese selvedge brand that sells their jeans by specific inseam instead of expecting you to hem them. each inseam length the entire leg is re-patterned so all the taper points are actually meant for your height. their entire focus as a brand is on the perfect fit.
with other brands using 1 size fits all inseams you're supposed to hem yourself, if you're much taller or shorter than the ~5'9 average jeans are made for they won't fit as good as they could because the knee taper won't be at the right spot etc.

It would be a better fit if the rise was an inch or so higher. I don't know if they've changed the fit at all over the years to keep up with changing standards. This was the "new" standard over a decade ago. Also the button holes on the fly are coming apart, which seems like a weird thing to fail on a pair of jeans that retails for over 200.

Just ordered a pair of their "jean standard" which has a higher rise. Found a pair for 52. will see how they fit.'

"tapered" jeans means they have a high taper RATIO.

its not about your height its about how long your legs are. there's actually not as much correlation between height and inseam measurement as you would think. its correlated to a few other factors almost as strongly like ethnicity etc.
anyways jeans are pretty much always designed for around a 34" inseam. that's what the person designing it has in mind when they decide stuff like where the knee taper begins and shit like that.
if you have a 34" inseam +/- an inch or two then you have a lot of options. warehouse has the best straight fit imo. their taper ratio is magic and looks good on almost every guy. orslow and fullcount are good too. any repro fit is good honestly, other than 60s era imo.
if your inseam is outside that range above or below, resolute 710/711/etc will fit the best you will find short of making your own jeans or something.'

just got in the apc "jean standard" and can confirm it's a very good fit. very similar to the new standard only it has a higher rise, which is exactly what i was looking for. would recommend if you can find them for <$100. I recommend apc in general not because they're the highest quality vintage repro denim head jeans, but because the company is well established and has been producing consistent styles for decades so it's pretty easy to find them on the second hand market for less than $100. Wouldn't buy them at the full retail price obviously'

its crazy that i don't even think of calvin klein when it comes to jeans, which is weird because that was their thing back in the day. i don't recall ever even trying on a pair of ck jeans or seeing a pair that I liked, let alone a selvedge pair from them. Where do you usually buy them?

>>18092433
Best "mall brand" jean? I'd say Club Monaco (although it's rare to see them in a mall), sometimes j crew has decent jeans, but they're super inconsistent, i never felt like they really nailed the jeans game even though they ought to have it in the bag by now. Nordstrom caries apc sometimes and nudie n&f, but i haven't shopped there in ages. Have heard good things about Abercrombie jeans recently

no club monaco around me. if its useful to anyone the best jeans at the malls in my area are g star (their line of normal jeans not the nig stuff) and gap/br selvedge. all 3 are overpriced but go on sale often and are good at that price. g star has a surprisingly good straight leg fit/pattern (3301 straight) their fabric's alright, but they're not selvedge. gap/br have an ok fit/pattern but they're kaihara (taiwan not their mij mill) selvedge. incredibly slow fading fabric btw. all 3 can be found on 50-80% sale multiple times a year and they're a steal at that price. can't rely on it but it makes it worth popping in those stores when you happen to be around. if this is useful to anyone.
better jeans can be found at box stores outside of the city (levis, wrangler, rustler etc) and the brands you find at places like tractor supply and bass pro. IMO.
but its not so bad, blueowl is local and self edge is only a few hours drive.

rip my niggas:
uniqlo - why the fuck did they stop selling everything except skinny cut stretch selvedge outside of asia? their jeans were so good. it makes no sense with how hard they are pushing workwear and denim in their current product lines either. uniqlo slim straight was a godlike cut.
nordy - havent seen anything except 1 or 2 colors of pre wash apc's in years. do they even still carry n&f?'

thanks for the advice. didn't know kaihara had a factory in taiwan. the biggest problem with these brands, like uniqlo is when they do stretch selvedge. stretch selvedge is seppuku mode imo. i did have a few pairs of uniqlo selvedge back in the day, but they didn't stick around in my closet. not even sure where they went, but didn't like them enough to keep them around. think they were too slim on me or something.

+1 for resolute. I love my 710s.

Although they’re more of a slim fit straight jean, than a true straight fit. For straight you’d want the 714.

I’m not a fan of low rise so I can’t recommend the 711.

I found the waist size to be a little small though. I initially bought a 34” waist (normally a 33” in most other jeans and pants).

It was extremely tight, even after wearing for a few days. I ended up swapping them for a 36” waist (they don’t do a 35”). They fit a lot better, perhaps a little too big, especially after stretching out. Fine with a belt though.

I might end up getting them taken in a bit.

Pic rel, my 710s one wash.'
