>/g/ makes a 12th album
Theme: everything is single saw/square/sine osc with a simple filter
Title: Let me guess, you need more
Deadline: Midnight between April 30th and May 1st

Please post cover art

>IMPORTANT! READ THIS BEFORE SUBMITTING:
Upload the file somewhere and post the link here. If you want to update your track, make a new post.
If possible use a lossless format and upload to a file-sharing service, not to a music site like Vocaroo or SoundCloud.
Include the title of the song in the post. Don't rely on us reading it from the filename or tags.
When you post the submission make sure that the song is clearly a submission for the album, otherwise it might get skipped.
Songs that contain anything against YouTube's policies won't be uploaded on YT (but will still be added to the album).
If your track's volume goes above 0 dB it will be clipped for the release.

does anyone know what sort of equalization or transformation tiktok does to audio? I've googled but i cant find any answers other than they compress it slightly but surely that cant be it.

i swear they do something to make it sound alot more vibrant, just listen here:

Perhaps add a flac from the album version or something.

I want to dual boot with W10 for music and Linux for personal stuff (both for privacy and compartmentalization).
I was just thinking that there will be times in which I'm in my Linux partition and want to do something in Ableton without rebooting, and my options are:
- Bitwig, which is close enough to Ableton but not enough
- Ableton with WINE/Bottles, which might end up being unstable and a time-wasting pain
- Ableton in a Windows VM, which seems like the best option (considering how I would have a W10 VM anyway for other programs) if the performance hit isn't too bad.

Forgetting Linux and doing everything on Windows is not an option.
Getting two separate computers is also not an option for now.'

There are samplers, then there are integrated sampler / sequencers. It depends on what you want, if you aren't good at it in Ableton, where it's very easy, you might not enjoy many samplers where you operate by ear. Then again, I hate doing shit on the computer and I enjoy chopping and sequencing by ear instead of looking at and re-arranging little blocks on the timeline.

Portable samplers like the SP-404mkII are fun, lots of big name producers own one and it's kind of a musical sketchpad. Lots of people like MPCs too, they make a portable battery operated one now.

It's literally just fucking practice. If you don't put time into anything you'll never learn anything. I was going to write I don't buy vintage stuff... but I class dusty old analogue synths with wooden panels etc like Arp, Moog etc as vintage, while Virus and Supernovas aren't. Others here would probably class a bunch of my 20 year old synth/samplers as vintage.
Yeah, I agree there's not a lot of new hardware worth buying for synths though. It's all the same shit semi modular compact desktop with 8 step sequencers and other bollocks which just make simple noises. The Hydrasynth was the last actual synth I bought and I prefer Serum.
I don't go much into hardware compressors/EQs. I went down the "best" monitor route and worked my way backwards through the monitoring chain first.
Then again, I'm not a "Pro" just a hobbyist. I don't even have much motivation any more. If I turn the gear on and something worth recording doesn't come out within 10 minutes I turn it off again for another week.'

The other reason to do this is that by engaging more senses, it gives you more ways to remember/learn.

You can learn the basics of what you need in a few months but it takes years and years to master all the nuances... Luckily the journey gets easier and more fun as you go along

I've dallied with electronic music making for twenty years without using a fucking sawtooth for a sub and Optical casually mentions it in an AMA. All you hear about are sines and squares, and once you play a low saw unfiltered it sounds like a jackhammer farting. The 2nd harmonic of a saw is a pure octave and translates better on sound systems that can't fully reproduce the bottom note of a pure sine sub. The 2nd square harmonic is an octave and a fifth which isn't ideal as it is easily goes above 100hz. The point is to filter out all the extra saw harmonics that sound ugly. What you're left with is a fuller sub, like playing a second octave of a sine at a lower volume.'

I have a RMe corsair PSU, it doesn't have "coil whine" but rather the fan rattles slightly whenever it spins up (the fan is usually off under low load). Quite annoying faint rattling that happens. You can use any number of poly synths playing at any given time, but each one of them has to only be using a basic waveform.
You can use enveloped filters as well as basic effects that don't change the timbre too much.
Stuff like basic distortion, delay, reverb, etc. is allowed.
Stuff like fm, rm, spectral and/or AI processors, and any type of synthesis that doesn't result in an oscillator playing a static basic wave, is NOT allowed.
At least according to me (the organizer). The original Anon who made the suggestion probably has a different idea on what's kosher and what isn't.'

If the goal is to have as large an amount of heavy plug-ins as possible and not worry about latency, either in the DAW or during live tracking & recording: the latest most powerful Intel you can afford is the typical answer, but I'm pretty sure the upper end 14th Gen ones have serious diminishing returns if you prefer not being stupid with your money. The reason for picking Intel is single core emphasis and traditionally music apps and libraries have played better with Intel

This is actually something I was trying in ableton but never got the hang of. I have so many long pad samples I wanted to put shit over but i never get it right. I was doing some pattern recording earlier, the sampler really helps me fill in those gaps I struggled with on the DAW. The 404 seems to be what a lot of new people like me get. I feel like having all the tools in front of you on a machine is more fun than ableton. You definitely are faced with a tougher challenge but there's a lot of resources out there. Once I get my samples set up later I'm going to finish the manual video and the update video. I'm probably going to need to watch a few tip and tricks videos too. The learning curve is a lot higher but it feels more rewarding to me figuring out my 404 vs ableton. You can also figure out a lot of stuff on this by just having basic terminology knowledge. I've used or seen all of the SFX names before, I know kicks sound good on 1 and 3, etc. I have this tendency to count early but using the pads, watching the count go and tapping accordingly was fun practice.'

Maschine has a fast workflow that's like MPC + Ableton + its own thing, but Native Instruments got bought up and incorporated into a larger brand with Izotope, Brainworx, and Plugin Alliance so development has been incredibly slow. You cannot automate tempo or time signature changes, there is no polyphonic aftertouch, no round-robin sampling, and sound design from the hardware is a PITA because Native Instruments half-assed their own .nks standard that's supposed to automatically expose a VST's parameters to any of their controllers.'

If it's a room with three sets of two parallel surfaces, each set acts as a comb filter. Find the three fundamentals with help of their overtones (the hard part) and convert frequencies to wavelengths.'

I don't know what you're talking about. For room acoustic treatment you want those comb filters removed so I figured it'd be useful in your case. You're looking for (up to) three constant harmonic series.'

Chat, if I didn’t care for the virus b/c(?) emulation (my gear lust dreams were crushed) will the TI feel any better?

I fell asleep at 6-7 pm yesterday with only intermittent wakefulness and at some point the power went out and reset my e-girl lights so when I woke up 12 hours later the silent hill sleep mix was still playing and my room was completely red.
Feels like a bad sign...'

Can't relate to being the next Buddy Rich or tranny porn, but I did study CE instead of going to music school like I wanted... Ah well, I've never managed to make it past "pretty good" at anything I've ever done anyways so I doubt it matters that much in the end. Sorry to hear that tho, you could always start playing again now

Define discuss stuff. I pirated it but I have no idea how to use it. It seems mostly niche in that actual knowledgeable people are like hermits or are terminally online (twitter) with no in between. If u wanna talk about vocaloid or utau songs and such I mean nothing is stopping you. People talk about more inane shit here all the time (see: the other half of this post)'

It's super convenient. My only gripe is that the resolution gets misrepresented but that's just the tism at work
Also CE is cool. There's still time fren, pick up a cheap fpga and Logic Design and Verification Using SystemVerilog (note that SystemVerilog is proprietary but the HDL concepts are universal). You can do some really cool shit with those things. You can also do regular embedded projects using RasPi, arduino, Texas instruments MSP breakout boards, ESP32 controllers, etc. Use all that stuff to build a fat portfolio and you'll be a great candidate if you ever wanna switch, plus they're fun when you incorporate hardware. SystemVerilog is a different beast with its own rules but a bunch of CS concepts carry over to embedded work. CSAPP is also a pretty good book about slightly lower level C concepts which are useful'

I tried that.
That's for separating voice from instruments and different kinds of instruments from each other.
I need to separate two pure vocals that are an octave apart.'
