'I have a huge amount of respect for Pat, and have enjoyed the Cindy Lee stuff thus far, but this latest one was a step backward for him. Women was groundbreaking, the culmination of 90s-00s style noise rock mixed masterfully with indie rock. The Cindy thing had a great mystique at first, and some of the tracks are fucking brilliant, bizarre mix of noise and 60s pop that still sounded like something inventive and new. This new album just doesn't have any of those qualities that made Public Strain or Eternity special. Truthfully Ariel Pink covered this ground in the late 90s, I don't see why an artist as visionary as Pat would go in that direction. Whats worse is a lot of the songs on Diamond just aren't really even that well written and seem to rely more heavily on the pastiche hypnagogic vibe thing, which again is sad to see from the guy who brought us Eyesore or Dry Dive or Heavy Metal. I think the drag persona novelty is wearing off, I wish Pat would move on from it and just be real, write some honest to god forward thinking songs that I know he's capable of, instead of mining the past, which is not the way forward for rock music. I only feel this strongly about Pat cause I think hes brilliant and he could save us all.';
