That shit will sit there until he dies in another 20 years and by then it will be too late. I hate my own countrymen.

I got a guy that has 3 cars and two of them are parked at work in a parking lot never to be driven again (since covid passed) since the transmissions on them are fucked. He will never fix them and given the type of cars they are(late 90's Buick and an Impala) no one will want them unless some special auto hobbyist would take the time and money to do that. There are people in town that will come by with a tow truck and just take em off his hands for a couple hundred dollars. So he won't sell them because he knows they won't sell and won't scrap em either when all he has to do is call and collect the money. Older people are utterly fucked in the head.'

It's related to the impulse that motivates serial hoarders.
They see potential use for this thing, but for one reason or another it has been pushed to the side for other priorities. In extreme cases this happens repeatedly and creates the TLC hovels. I've been guilty of it (not for cars however) a few times myself.
It's the main reason why I'm very intentional about everything I buy, aside from just being poor. I don't want to make the people who care about me to clean up a shitheap of junk that I never really got to use when I die.'

>as the frame rots out from under it.
I dragged a truck out of a forest in the southeast that had been sitting there for a decade.
Had to cut down trees to get it.
Tires were rotted away.
Frame is fine.
Umderside of the cab and bed still has factory paint.
Ive slowly been going through it and restoring it for about 7 years (it idles as smooth as when it left the factory)
It hasn't moved under its own power for atleast 17 years.

Why do you think something is going to "rot away" just because it's sitting in my yard?
If that truck had been sold 20 years ago to someone one state over where they salt the roads it would have actually rusted away from road use and would have been sent to the crusher a long time ago.'

It depends where it sits. If the grass grows up high enough to constantly touch the body then it will hold moister against it and that's where the real rot comes from.
That and ever seal usually gets roached so when it rains water pools on the floor so it's very common for cars that have sat a long time not to have floors at all and everything close to the ground to be rotted.
The truck I saved barley has floors and everything under it is crusty from the grass. If you get lucky and pull it out of a place with constant shade and very little grass then it saves the interior and most of the body.
I added oil and gas and it fired like it was parked yesterday'

Very few of those vehicles were towed to that spot. They were parked under their own power.
I have several "ran when parked" vehicles.
One was my DD in highschool, an old F100 that I restored. When I moved across country I left it at my parents place with the intent of bringing it out but never got back to do it. Nothing really " in disrepair" with it, other than draining the gas tank and replacing the needle&floats and perhaps the fuel pump (just because the diaphragm is probably a little crusty after all these years).'

Ah yes this phenomenon is common with boomers, since the early 80’s i recall,You have two types of scenarios wether it be depending on the vehicles class.
Scenario 1
> if it is a desirable muscle car or classic you will run the risk of the owner knowing what he has in his front yard, the majority of these vehicles will more than likely need major body work and engine overhauls to the point that is not worth fixing.

>any other typical vehicle like a pick up truck or a sedan that has been kept sitting at the owners property for years may be a hit or miss until you inspect it ,

>either way your always going to be at a 50/50 ratio of actually buying the car.'
