They're already differentiated one is a Morechella and one is a Helvellaceae. You don't need to specify unless you're looking for gyromitra and not morels. And the reason most of the world avoids gyromitra is because it kills a number of people every year. It has a higher chance of killing you than puffer fish. Can you eat both, yes. I am in Linn county. Last year I found a couple at Pinicon Ridge park on the hill between the fire tower and river, but the rest of my hunts happened in Wisconsin. This year will be all Iowa hunts; I plan to look around the Coralville reservoir and other secluded spots around the Wapsipinicon. I look for areas around the trees they like, especially areas without a bunch of tall grasses, black walnut shells, invasive species, or pine duff. Moss on the ground is always a good sign.

If these temps keep up, next weekend is probably the start of the season. Next weekend is Bicycle Day and 4/20 though so I might be busy.

There's a Morel Festival in Muscoda, WI, that is really underwhelming but if you get there early you can buy fresh morels by the bucket. There's the Houby Days festival in Cedar Rapids that I've never been to but will go this year that is focused on morels and mushrooms from a Czech perspective.'

Same. I'm not an expert but the high tide for mushies starts right when the weather bends from summer to autumn, which in NSW just happened this week. I've heard it's especially good this year because of all the rain we just had. I normally spend my Fridays doing laundry, cleaning the garden, and doing my weekend cooking projects but this weekend I've heard is GOLDEN for mushrooms. So, I've cancelled all my errands and chores and tomorrow I'm going out to photograph mushrooms. I learned my lesson the last couple years by waiting too long and then I find nothing.

Do I qctually need all this shit or is there another way? Everyone seems to make mushroom growing so complicated but I've seen some people on youtube just grow stuff straight from their first bag with out all the faff of moving things to seperate tubs and butting airholes in and shit.
Just to be clear, I have psylocibin spores in the same household as this growing kit so advice on the requirements to grow cubes, so that I can advoid that and thus avoid breaking the law, would be helpful.'

'>>2730417
You have several options. You don't need pearlite, you can achieve the same micro climate with just water and something to keep the cake above the water level. Vermiculite can be helpful when fruiting cakes. Once the cake is fully colonized, you can either open fruit it or top fruit it. To open fruit, remove the fully colonized cake from the tub, soak it overnight in a ziplock filled with water, next day drain the water and roll the cake in vermiculite. To top fruit, do all of the same, but instead of rolling the cake, place it back in the tub and add a layer of vermiculite to the surface.

For creating a fruiting chamber, you can use a larger tub filled with about an inch of water. Place a couple jars upside down and place the cake on the jars, resting it about half an inch above the water surface(add more water if necessary) Place the lid on the larger tub, upside down with a slight twist to create air gaps for fresh air exchange.

Another alternative is to place the fruiting block into a turkey bag with holes punched every inch or so, starting about half way up. I use the needle that comes with the spore syringe. You'll need to mist every day to keep humidity up. Mist the edges of the bag, not the fruiting block. To close the top between misting, fold it over and use a paper clip. it's not meant to be air tight, just keep most of the moisture in.'

You can fruit mushrooms in a bag, i think people typically put hydrated coco coir and/or vermiculite on top of the grain spawn once it's colonised. That would be a waste of spawn because you get much better results mixing the spawn with hydrated coco coir and fruiting in a tub. If you've gotten to the point where you have fully colonised grainspawn you've done all the hard stuff... preparing coir and mixing in a plastic tub is easy and all you need to do is flip the lid upside down on top and let it go if you get your water levels right.
Also, unless you have liquid culture syringes you should probably germinate the spores on agar dishes to separate the mycelium culture from all the other contaminants that are probably present. Liquid culture syringes are a little safer to inject directly into grain because the mycelium is already alive and will colonise fast.
Look up the hitchhiker's guide to the shroomery, you may have some success with all in one kits by luck but you may also get some nasty bacteria in every single one. DIY can be done on the cheap and you don't need all the fancy tech to do it.'

I bought one of those and followed the simple instructions. Filled it with water to hydrate it, poured off the excess, put it in the fridge for 12 hours, and then placed it inside the included plastic bag -- sealed up. From there, ideally you should put it on a warm pad intended for plants (or perhaps it's warmer where you are) and let it sit in undirect light. Once a day, open it up to mist it slightly and then re-seal paying attention to hygiene to avoid mould forming. Then, 2 weeks later you've got your first flush of mushrooms as simple as that, I still remember it all 10 years later it's so simple. You can usually do 2-4 runs with the same cake if you keep it clean of mold, with much reduced yields at the end.'
