It's a way of expressing sexual attraction that doesn't fall into 'misogynistic patterns' like wanting to fuck a woman. Rogue, I'd probably go Soulknife for the bonus attack, expertise, and the sneak attack damage though I'd need to talk my DM into allowing the Beast Weapons to count as finesse.

If you're going Soulknife anyway, then you'll already have a finesse weapon that you'd be required to make attacks with. Sneak Attack is only once per round, so it's not a major issue. You could also likely just use a shortsword in one of your hands and do something like

Point taken. Even so, it's only one sneak attack per round, and if you're Raging, you're probably making reckless attacks so odds are you're gonna end up hitting with the soulknife strikes. If anything Soulknife doesn't seem bad there, since by its nature it leaves your hands very free for the claw attacks.

'Temperature check on a setting/campaign I'm developing.

The story begins on a small continent on a flat world. The setting is low-magic but for the levels this segment of the campaign is concerned with, that has no greater gameplay implications, casters are still playable. The adventuring party will be fledgling adventurers starting at level 1. The party is recruited by a local hermit who wants them to investigate an overgrown temple. In doing so they discover themselves embroiled in a decades long conflict between the BBEG and the hermit the party is working for who it turns out was previously the BBEG's ally. The temple is one of four on the continent; accessing the other temples allows one to restoring the world's connection to "The Weave" (still using conventional D&D language here but whatever I end up calling it, it's the source of all magic) and reintroducing stronger magic to the world.

It's revealed that the BBEG and hermit were part of an adventuring party that severed the flow of magic to the world decades ago because magic was a constant source of catastrophic conflict; a previous war using magical relics left the world recovering from near-apocalyptic conditions. In doing so, they weakened the world and put it in a dying state. Only small amounts of magic trickle in now which is why cantrips and lower leveled spells are possible, but the world is slowly withering without a font of magical power. This can even be seen in the commentary of NPC's the party meet who comment on how the horizon visible from shore is dwindling away and many conspiracy theorists believe the end of the world is imminent and that the continent will one day drift off the edge of the planet.

The hermit reveals to the party in their travels that reducing the flow of magic was only supposed to be a temporary solution while they figured something else out, but BBEG became bitter and complacent to let the world die if that meant that it would go out with a whimper instead of a bang. He genuinely believed the inhabitants of this world should live out the rest of their days in relative peace with the threat of magic defanged. The hermit in his day was a powerful Wizard but is no more capable than anyone in the party with the rate of magic reduced, so he can't hope to stand against BBEG on his own. He knows this because he's tried with former alumni of the original party and became the sole escapee and survivor.

The party travels the continent and restores the temples with the BBEG always on their heels and several dangerous encounters, but also opportunities for side quests along the way. This culminates atop the tower of the fourth temple where the party faces off against the BBEG before restoring magic and life to the world.

Once this restoration happens, it's revealed the world was never flat. The continent the adventure took place on was a raised plateau erected to hide these temples from the rest of the world so BBEG's plan to suffocate the world slowly couldn't be meddled with. Once the world returns to its natural shape, the hermit warns there are likely many powerful magical relics and evil spellcasters who are all too aware that the power of magic has returned to the world who are eager to take advantage. He requests the party to travel, recover magical items, and stop evil while looking for a solution his party was unable to find.

The first part of the campaign (start to restoration) is supposed to be levels 1-10. Everything after is however long the party wants to go because I'm going to send them on lethal dungeon crawls and expeditions rather than a narrative-focused campaign after that point. Does it sound stupid? is it cool?'

Yes, I see that now that I'm pushing 50 HP, But also, they're a Barbarian, even swapping Dex and Con, it's a marginal difference as I just used the standard rolls. Feels fine for the character that they don't have smart stats.
I guess with that many attacks per turn, it wouldn't matter if the sneak attack was on the knife or any of the other attacks. Makes it simpler.
DM gave us all plot weapons, so I won't be picking up a short sword.
So, going 5B/3R would get Soulknife Sneak Attack, Claw 1, Claw 2, Soulknife Bonus Action.

Whatever I end up calling "The Weave" isn't just the source of magic but life itself in this universe so even Gods are downstream of that. Divine magic that Clerics or Paladins would use are inherited from their God or Oath, but that is in turn inherited from "The Weave," so the Gods are in decay as well. I imagine the BBEG as being a level 16 Eldritch Knight (obviously not for purposes of his combat statblock as an enemy but historically as a character) whose entire kit is built around shutting down opposing mages. He's still extremely capable as a warrior, basically a living legend, and is working with some of the highest level magic available in-world despite the reduced magical flow. From a lore perspective, he's a perfect counter to a caster and the magic he does employ gives him an edge versus strictly martial combatants.

One of the lore reasons I hashed out for why a low-magic setting could be compatible with no gameplay implications is basically a little bit more magic flows into the world per temple they visit. If they keep natural pace it should never affect them. If they get sidetracked into too much other business and get ahead of the level curve I planned, they will be slightly punished by being unable to cast higher level spells. I imagined each temple being worth a spell level; cantrips, 1st, and 2nd level spells being naturally possible in the world. So they finish the first temple relatively early in the campaign and unlock 3rd level spells, the next 4th, and so on until the final temple restores true magic to the world. But the first arc is only levels 1-10 so 5th level spells will be available to them for the final confrontation which is naturally on time for that level range.

But yeah I do need some answers for if the party doesn't want roped into all this or agrees with the BBEG.'

Meta game wise at this point the other party members were looking like a total wipe, and so far we had eaten a fireball every encounter(We're level 9 so it served to soften us up). Next encounter starts with enemies pouring into the room, about 8 lower tiered goons. I take out 3 on my turn with GWM, and the cleric gets surrounded.
Before my next turn 3 more guys show up and gang up on me. I slip out the door(disengage) leaving the cleric to die. DM pulls punches to give the cleric a chance to follow me (I am assuming here), but they pull out a spirit guardians I know they didnt have a slot for, and every enemy manages to fail its save and dies.

Next round boss mob shows up at top of the round with two more goons. cleric heals and pops a potion (we do potions as a bonus action) and goes to fight the boss. I remind them concentration is a thing and they die fairly quickly after. The kicker is the DM leaves them alone on death saves to make it my choice to kill them or not. I leave it to death saves and that was that. I could have stabilized, but no healing to speak of. We were alone so no one ic knows what happened.

TLDR; they fucked around and found out, I coulda stayed and helped but they could have run too.'

here's what im thinking so far
>each hex is 1/2 day travel (4h) to cross or full day (8h) to explore. Difficult terrains (hills, random bad weather, etc) doubles each
>each hex can have either a landmark (can been automatically found from adjacent hex or from traversing), a standard poi (can been found if hex explored), or a hidden poi (need exploration + DC check)
>players know the terrain in every hex in the region, and maybe a couple landmarks already, but no other POI. Players should be exploring for something with an unknown location, such as "hidden tomb of king" or "lost shrine of god"
>each time enter a hex or camp for the night, roll random encounter, chance of encounter depends on hex, but its pretty low. The goal is to make the party feel there's danger, but not have constant combat
>food and water and supplies: not even bothering with it since there's a ranger with outlander'

Seems fine overall. Without food/water being a real concern though, it does seem like you'd need some other method for having the party decide if it's worth spending the extra time to explore somewhere.
Things like random encounters also only do so much, though if they're not very frequent and a party is exploring hidden tombs and shrines regularly, then it may work out. I tend to have the random encounters I throw at my players to be more akin to points of interest, like a camp of goblins outside a cave where they have the choice for whether to deal with it or not, rather than road ambushes, although obviously that's not quite the same sense of danger.'

The scary Germans that we defeated in the 1940s are the problem.
Obviously they're responsible for changing decades of established DnD lore and turning the forgotten realms into current day Seattle. I mean how could you have combat wheelchairs without German engineering? The Nazis were well know for their wheelchair accessible war machines.
Female custodes in 40k, and then gaslighting your fan base that the lore they have had for 30 years dose'nt exist? The SS were known for their strong female warriors. They were really big on representation.
Releasing a set of MtG cards based on a beloved classic setting, then making Aragorn black? The nazis were well know for their propaganda and how they would rewrite modern myths to insert POC into their history and stories.
And when you browse the x profiles of the people who promote and support this stuff, next to the pronouns, you see the German war flag and not the hammer and sickle right?'

It gives 30 speed and it allows you to Dash with your additional (hasted) action. You gotta combine it with enhanced acrobatics/athletics and then the pseudo-teleport lets you do crazy shit.

You can. Unless you mean "replace every attack on your turn with one super kamehameha attack". Then yeah, it doesn't.

You CAN replace your attacks, though, except for flurry of blows which specify they are unarmed strikes. The phrasing is the same as grappling and shoving on the PHB.

Simply put in my eyes, Strahd reputation (and what DM/storytimes made him out to be) overshadowed the campaign as a whole. Gothic horror setting also distinguished it quite a lot; and the sandboxy nature of it (which doesn't work at all lmao)

I played it from start to finish, ultimatly it was fun, but only thanks to the rest of the players/characters and the DM.
Even the gm said it was shit and reworked a lot of stuff so that some encounter/plot points worked better, made more sense or had more impact narratively. After reading it myself, i understood 100% of these choices. Our final confrontation with Strahd was quite disapointing, didn't even get a hit on him, but at least our Rogue bullied him with a double crit in two turns.
Problem is that it's disjointed, unbalanced and Strahd being a good antagonist is only really in the hand of the GM (which could be said of all npcs in all of the modules ever made I guess?). The ending of the module is insulting imo, like I get it's a dark setting but it fucking sucks
Also isometric maps for castle ravenloft is slap in the face of any DM wanting to prepare the campaign, at least there are well made map online.'

The DM needs to specifically introduce the superhuman feats to begin with, yes, but if they're there from the start, every player knows what they need to get to them. They're far better than the other feats because that's what they're meant to be. That's why they're superhuman feats, in that regard. I don't think people understand that the whole "shoehorning minorities and LGBT garbage into everything" is their attempt at counterbalancing the decades of stereotypes, blackface, white-man-playing-any-race, and general mishandling of these things. There's a documentary I watched on the TV series Kung Fu (starring David Carradine), and it goes into some of the drama surrounding the production, Bruce Lee's stolen idea, the casting of white people in asian roles, etc... but also praises that series like Kung Fu, while stereotyping, gave asian actors a chance to perform in an industry where they mostly got cast for martial arts rather than acting. Nuance is everything. You need to think of this whole thing as a pendulum; once, we swung one way, and now, we swing the other way, so it'll go back and forth in equilibrium.'

Monks get lots of things that LOOK flashy and fantastical, but in actuality suck. They and Barbs are most definitely in greater need of fantastical options that actually do something than Fighters and Rogues. Far, far greater need. Not to mention that because they're so MAD those two classes will not be able to obtain these feats in any reasonable amount of time. Monks have two core stats they need to raise with their ASIs. A rogue gets to take Enhanced Acrobatics far before they do and laugh in their face as they crib all of Monk's features mobility features, in addition to already having a better dash/disengage action.

I know for a fact that I would be absolutely seething as a barbarian if all I can do in terms of utility is give myself advantage on strength checks, and I have to use my scant few ASIs to up my stats, but the fighter can take Enhanced Power and do more barbarian-type things than me with ASIs to spare.

TL;DR there's no reason for monks and barbarians to be gated from this harder than stronger classes are, and there's little reason for this to be tied to ASI progression rather than being something martials can take at set intervals (other than enforcing aforementioned gating).'

>>92583601
Yeah, current Rogue plan would be B5 to get the Extra attack, R1 for expertise and sneak attack, then B6 for the magic weapon adds, then R2,R3.
I definitely haven't been grappling a lot, but have been utilizing athletics for a lot of climbing/jumping maneuvers while attacking.
Can't decide if I should go +2 for STR, or pick up GWM for the cleave damage.
I think Soul Knife fits in fine if you just change the knife portion of it to a mental projection of claws or something like that.
>Amid the trees of ancient forests on the Material Plane and in the Feywild, some wood elves walk the path of the Soulknife, serving as silent, lethal guardians of their woods.
Plenty for a woodsy animal larper.'

Nah, different anon
What people do at their own tables is up to them. I just think it's silly and shouldn't be part of mainstream lore. It's a humiliation ritual, to turn the world and it's lore into a joke. I'm going to trek through the brush to find an acient, yet wheelchair accessible dungeon, and fight a dangerous dragon, all in my combat wheelchair. It's just silly. It wrecks the internal logic of the setting and the world, and for what? This is a game of pretend, your character dose'nt have to be incapable of moving their legs from the waist down. There have been plenty of wheelchair bound nerds that have played this game with us for 30+ years, not once have we needed a combat wheelchair for a fictional character. Their disability is physical, not mental. They recognize it would be silly.'

Kind of off topic, but LoTRs is one of the foundational inspirations for this game though, so not completely.
People didn't like Rings of Power because it was shit and shit on the lore. People like Lord of The Rings because it's one of the most foundational fantasy epics of the past 100 years.
The amount of women or female interactions in a story or film is often not a direct factor on its quality.

And yes, I'm not blind to the fact that many people complain about strong female characters being inserted into everything, or race swapped characters. But that's all part of the subversion thing we were talking about earlier. Stop fucking with people's shit and they will stop getting upset.'

I’m pretty sure the context is “less toxic white males means more diverse player base which will amount to more money and coverage”

I’m a poc. Moved to a new city. Been playing magic since 2008 and have a really heft collection. We just smashed home drafts for each set. Probably opened 3-4 boxes each time and with some smart trades my binder has to be insured now. I tuned up to the local store to jam some modern. First opponent scoffed at me and made comments as if they didn’t know how to play. Beat him. Second opponents kept checking my cards to see if they were real.
After the rounds I left my binder out for trades. When I collected it and went to leave. Clerk checked me for stealing. The only player who spoke out and defended me was trans. The fat sweaty white guys just chortled in the corner frothing for some drama.

Same with dnd. Found an online group. Joined them. Ended up being 4 fat sweaty white guys who never washed. Lived in filth and kept making really inappropriate comments about poc and women. Found a more diverse group and we have been playing every week without fail for the past 3 years.'

Hexblade and Pact of the Blade. I know they benefit each other clearly, but I just have a question on some particular phrasing. Hex warrior under hexblade states

"The influence of your patron also allows you to mystically channel your will through a particular weapon."

Single weapon, whole reason you're even a hexblade, picked up a cursed sword or whatever. But later in the same paragraph it also says

"If you later gain the Pact of the Blade feature, this benefit extends to every pact weapon you conjure with that feature, no matter the weapon's type."

Ok, I'm still getting it, but the thing that has me scratching my head is the next bit under Pact of the Blade which says

"You can use your action to create a pact weapon in your empty hand. You can choose the form that this melee weapon takes each time you create it. You are proficient with it while you wield it. This weapon counts as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage."

Hex Warrior extends to pact of the blade I understand that so you get all your benefits as far as that is concerned, but the thing I want to make sure I understand is your PACT weapon and HEXBLADE are different weapons correct or does your hex weapon count as both the hexblade AND the pact weapon? Like I can hold my Hexblade weapon in my main hand and then summon the pact weapon in my off correct? I mainly ask because I want to maintain my hex weapon as a unique object and potentially use my pact weapon for variety if I want to use different weapons. I know alot of people just use both features on a single weapon so the hexblade and pact weapon are a single weapon, but I just want to make sure I understand correctly.'

I might have misworded that. The idea is that when you gain Extra Attack action, it grants you a second action which you can only use to take the Attack action, instead of granting you two attacks with one action'

As written it looks like you could hex warrior one weapon using the standard long rest ability while having a separate pact weapon (that also gets the benefits of hex warrior) if you really wanted to. So one "hex but not pact weapon" and one "hex + pact weapon".'

Yeah, you can theoretically have a shortsword that you're using as your hex weapon, and then conjure up a pact weapon shortsword if you wanted to dual wield, and get the Hexblade benefits on both, just for an example.

Generally though, the pact weapon is much better off being used for something like a greatsword or polearm if you're a hexblade, since you get to use Charisma no matter what.
That said, maintaining the hex weapon as its own thing and conjuring the pact weapon as something else would still be an option regardless. It's just that mechanically speaking, there's not much reason to do so, aside from the aforementioned possibility of dual-wielding.'

Ok cool, it was more of a curiosity thing I intended to go axe and shield with the axe being the hex weapon, and if I wanted to try something else like the double bladed scimitar I could use the pact weapon. I figured the hexblade weapon could be both, but for flavor reasons I wanted to keep the axe as the hexblade weapon mainly since it's the centerpiece of HOW and WHY my character would be a warlock'

'I ran a 3 year campaign for my players, mixing Lost Mine of Phandelver and Dragon of Icespire Peak, before rolling it into Storm King's Thunder (which I regret, but my players wanted to carry their characters over to a Skyrim-like).

I concluded the whole ordeal with basically a mecha/kaiju fight. My party kept imagining that Vonindod was a megazord/jager, and I sprinkled seeds around the dragons fucking up the giant order to distract them from Tiamat's revival. Used the Faerun map as the battlemap where the players had to navigate around and protect settlements while piloting Vonindod together. Then we ended the campaign and didn't play again (my players were getting burnt out, and my wife was 8.5 months pregnant)

One of my players reached out saying THEIR kid wants to play D&D, but specifically with "The Work Friends" (my players' group). He's never played before but has watched us play.

I guess I'm looking for ideas for a one-shot to bring these characters back. Once you've killed a dragon god in a giant mech and saved the world, I don't know where else you're supposed to go, and I didn't plan on using these characters again (or these players, who were kinda half-committed).

I'm more comfortable homebrewing now, so I don't NEED anything prewritten, but wouldn't mind borrowing ideas.'

Hexblade is a patron just like any other patron. It could be a cursed sword with a demon king inside of it locked away in a far off temple giving you powers in your sleep. or it could be a cursed dagger that stabbed you in the heart and brought you back. you don't need to actually have the weapon on you to have it be your patron'
