Same. In 40k you can make /Your Chapter/ and have them wear whatever colors. But in 30k it seems that, unless your guys are Blackshields, they gotta wear at least a variation of a legion's colors.
And half of Blackshields are actually black.
I don't want to play black marines, but if you paint them black, they can be:

that's about what my idea was. Take an overseer with maximum militia/auxilia, then take a delegatus or someone with some flavor as a leader to lead a small amount of vets. Any vehicles are going to be Legion Malcadors painted up as the militia/auxilia colors, any flyers are going to be flyers that they can take, and any super heavies are going to be baneblade variants. Maybe have some dreadnoughts or other small space marine units but the gist is having an obvious militia/auxilia army led by blackshields.
Of course I'm not going to do it that's too much money but it's still a cool idea. With a Forge Lord and Praevian as HQs you could even flip it to be Blackshields slaving mechanicum remnants to their own cortex controllers.'

The dumb thing is that they were already shown to be doing useful shit in Weregeld. It's not explained exactly how they ended up cornered at Yarant, but it is explained that the forces cornering them are being held up from reinforcing the traitor effort over in Beta-Garmon. Wolfsbane, published a couple years later, explains that the reaason why they ended up at Yarant had absolutely nothing to do with trying to take some pressure off the loyalists in the Garmon cluster. Instead they ended up there because Russ, after making his way back to Terra, decided against the vocal protests of literally everybody that he should try to kill Horus, and then, after a farcical series of events involving an extradimensional canine and several dead legionaries, he gets the one-in-a-billion shot at killing Horus AND CHICKENS OUT IN THE FINAL MICROSECOND, whereupon the Space Wolves flee to Yarant. All sacrifices other people made for Russ to see his plan through were completely wasted, everyone who counted on him to at least seriously TRY to follow through on his own plan was made to look like a retard, the Battle of Yarant wasn't the result of a strategic calculation to better the loyalist fighting odds in the Titandeath but rather came together because Russ had a brain fart at the worst possible instant.

What little they wrote about the Battle of Yarant would have been fine if they had never introduced the shitshow that was the Battle of Trisolian.

The tacticals with chainswords have actually been quite neat, way more useful than even I had anticipated. When camping an objective they don't fold the instant something reaches melee with them, and they can easily beat up enemy tactical squads and chase them off an objective. No longer have to waste scorpius shots on clearing tactical squads off an objective.

The plasma pistols are mainly there because plasma pistols are damn cool, fuck you. But have had a couple of games now where some dreadnought thinks my despoilers an easy target, but then the following happens:
>Dreadnought shoots the Despoilers in anticipation of charging them. Kills a couple of chaff marines.
>Having a shooting reaction to spare, the despoilers return fire and take a few wounds off the dreadnought thanks to having 5 plasma pistols in the squad.

>Since nothing else was getting charged, the despoilers overwatch, taking another couple wounds off the dreadnought with the plasma pistols.

Look I knew full well the plasma pistols were a waste of points, but frankly have been shocked by how often they've proven useful. Maybe not 10 points per plasma pistol useful, but can confidently say that there have been more than two games where they played a crucial part in me winning the game.'

What are you counting here, actually? "A reroll"? "Each wound is actually 1/16"? No. Each wound is 1/8, and you get X times of them
In your example, chance to hit is 1/2, to wound is 1/2, then Brutal (2) says for every successful wound you do 2 wounds instead, so you DO multiply by 2, then yiu save at 1/2 chance
So it goes 1/2 * 1/2 * 2 * 1/2 = 2/8 = 1/4
Tell you what, calculate how much damage a Perdition Maul does to a Command Squad Vet (2+ save)
That said, this formula doesn't work for units with more than one model because Brutal wounds don't spill, and when there's Instant Death you may be better off calculating the chance of "at least one wound going through", which instead uses (Save + Save^X) rather than multiplying...meaning IT DOES WORK ON DREADS.
So it loses power against infantry and is the same against dreads. Goal achieved.
