Not necessarily looking for just combat encounters, but also puzzle rooms where you need to find out how the ghost functions, or generally cool ideas for ghosts in an RPG. Setting is traditional fantasy, but really anything goes.
>in a room full of mirrors, the ghost (who was in life obsessed with beauty) can attack from different mirror images or create doppelgängers from them.
>the ghost, mad with grief, is lingering in the world because he wants to see his beloved friend one last time. He confuses a party member for said friend (“Is it really you? After all those years!"), and will cooperate, like opening a magic door, as long as the party member is capable of keeping up the act. Once the ghost finds out the truth, he attacks in rage.

'One hall has a statue of a mighty warrior/king and his ghost is insane with rage. somewhere just outside the hallway there is a trapdoor with spikes on the bottom and a rotten corpse.
The corpse is a thief who stole part of the statue (the king's sword or crown or something) and fell down the trapdoor because the newly awakened ghost chased him. The ghost is unable to rest until his item is returned and decades of unrest have driven him mad.
the party has to figure this out, get the item from the trap (which has closed again) and return it to the statue while distracting the ghost. afterwards the ghost can be calm and regal or just go back to rest.

one room has a king and queen in a sarcophagus next to each other and statues opposing each other on the sides and a game table in the middle. chess, checkers, a fantasy game, whatever.
in life, they played all the time, so their heirs put up a table to honor their obsession.
up to you if you want the players to play a game or figure out that the game is broken (chess with illegal positions they have to fix or missing pieces they have to return).'

One that I used involved the spirits of a much older culture in a disused part of the tomb. They would have been hostile (being none too happy about their tomb being reused, or trespassed in by strangers), buy a scholarly player recognized their mein and addressed them in their language. Pretty basic and ho hum.'
