I hate that term. It was invented by Forge weirdos as a weird psyop that tried to make people believe there's no point in making any more normal fantasy adventure games just because D&D exists and every game that superficially resembles D&D is redundant because of D&D.'

Slowly and painfully. I'm struggling to come up with decent rules for parrying.'

It originally was called a heartbreaker because it "broke the heart" of the one who coined it that most people won't try a fantasy game of a similar vein to D&D because D&D already exists even though it has neat takes and cool ideas.'

Ive hit a wall. The system is funtionally done, so i need to abandon all the tools and techniques ive been using for months to build it and take up a completely new set of tools to populate it with monsters and items and a setting and adventures to play. Im a dev first, a player second and a writer last, so its quite the shock'

The most honest roastie

Congratulations man! Keep it up. The last 5% of the project is always the longest part.'

That reminds me that I need to keep writing up my primer.

>>92605443

Been procrastinating on rewriting the primer of my game. Writing it in the view of going on a tutorial adventure that shows how to play the game out.'

There's context to the term heartbreaker that usually doesn't come up; the term was originally coined when talking about *published* rules systems (a homebrew that doesn't see a print run is not a heartbreaker, though the line blurs in the modern era where you can "publish" by dropping a PDF onto some place like DriveThruRPG).'

I'm not really doing a "heartbreaker", per se, but my fantasy game is coming along nicely.
I've learned that writing basic notes on my phone helps me plan out how I'm going to write things out in my notebook, so I can order things how I want with fewer erasures.
Production should go a little more smoothly from now on because of this little ergonomic change.'

It's done. I run it with friends. I'm avoiding the heartbreaker stage altogether by never attempting to sell it, though I prepared it as if it were a professional (if low-budget) set of books. It's for me and I'm under no illusions otherwise.'
