I spent about a week in London in 2014 and enjoyed my visit much more than I'd expected.

The only disadvantages, at least for me, were:
>sightseeing and eating out can be very expensive if you're on a budget--but I was a poorfag college student at the time, and knew I wouldn't be able to do everything I'd wanted to do well in advance
>I stayed in a terrible fucking hostel--most of the other "guests" were literal gypsies and Eastern European migrants who treated the place like their home, screamed at each other all night long, and stole from other travelers (e.g., I remember some Italian guy had his wallet lifted from his pocket while he took an afternoon nap)--place went out of business years ago, though

IIRC, I stayed somewhere near Hyde Park and the Bayswater station. If memory serves me right, there was a very distinct divide--off some street or another--between what looked to be well-to-do neighborhoods and a densely-populated immigrant quarter, with most immigrants being visibly Indian, Pakistani, or Bangladeshi.

Only pointing out the latter aspect because enough retards here seem to care, though it didn't bother me in the slightest.

I haven't been back to London since--I was on a summer-long hitchhiking trip across Europe--but had a pleasant enough stay that I'd like to return at some point or another. It's a big, worthwhile and interesting city for folks who appreciate history and don't seethe at the sight of brown people.'

I lived in central London for quite a while, spent a lot of time in Kensington and Camden. Also spent literal months as a tourist in London back in my party days. Also travelled the world extensively and have a property just outside of London.

Also lived in Amsterdam, Vienna and Barcelona where I currently live.

London is a horrible, horrible city that I vowed never to re-visit. It’s become a city of shit, hollowed out people from rich to poor. It has no soul. No essence. It’s a commercialised glorified airport, rammed full of the world’s worst people.

As a tourist, I get the novelty, actually. In reality, it’s not a nice place to live at all and spending significant amounts of time there really displays that to me.

Personally, I wouldn’t bother. There are far nicer, more interesting places where you can spend your time.'

I enjoyed it. Went in early April. I found the Tube really easy to navigate. Really easy to get to wherever you wanted to go quickly. it's definitely a walking city. Wear comfy shoes with good support. Also, all the tourist things for a first timer are very crowded. Buckingham Palace, Parliament, Elizabeth Tower, Westminster in general is mostly foreigners. Lots of French and Dutch I noticed. Everything else is just regular London. Oh...Camden Market is overrun with tourists. Forgot that part. I recommend wandering off the beaten path and exploring. London is fairly safe, and most people are so busy with their own lives that they don't give a shit about what you're up to.'

I can get the Oxford Tube in so go anytime I'm looking for clothes or something specialist, London is THE place for that - in that you can find practically anything there. But yeah otherwise its just a big city where people live - like many others in the world. It has some charm but anything over the past 60 years that isn't rock n roll related is just generic modern city stuff.

>>2646507
Its fashionable to hate on it as it is stereotypically the only city foreigners know and therefore can't be enjoyed by anybody. Though to be fair that people actually waste their entire vacations there is beyond me. You could certainly spend 3 or so days there if you wanted to get to know the place, any more is silly, silly!

As has been said a million times before, if you want to see the culture you have to go into the country.

>>2646548
Yeah, London isn't nearly as islamicised as its said to be - though in fairness there are lots of tourists from across the world and particularly Europe, so I feel its hard to get a good understanding of the demographic picture. Birmingham is far more obvious in that regard. I feel the constant overcast masks attractive features in people, at least that's the theory I came up with as to why Bongs look unattractive. Unfortunately our mainstream entertainment sector has every woman wanting to look like they're partying in Ibiza and thus uglifying themselves as much as possible.

'Having lived here for 2 years (and soon to be gone for good maybe), my conclusion is that London is fine. In the same way that people overhype a place like Tokyo, London is dogged on more than it needs to be. A lot of stuff is kind of true, there are areas (i.e., Lewisham) with a lot of smelly people of a certain variety, but it never really feels too dangerous (just try to be as vigilant as possible at night or stay in a group) if you're in Central London or a nice area like Greenwich in SE London or somewhere more fancy in North London. There's a lot of variety in food options which is nice, though everything is ridiculously expensive here. Being able to tap in and out on public transport is very convenient and I'm very surprised that somewhere like Tokyo still relies of passes or paper tickets, like the North East of England (where I'm from). There's a lot of attractive women and a huge pool, if I was looking for Japanese women up north I'd find maybe 2-3 max, whereas here there are a lot of girls and the only reason I'd consider staying in London is if I got a new qt Asian girlfriend here, in which case I'd try to find some work.
Academically, London is the best place to do stuff like postgrad degrees or PhDs. Nightlife-wise there is no shortage of bars and clubs, though clubs here are strangely dead compared to the clubs in Newcastle, and things close way too early for what is supposed to be a 24/7 city. I do enjoy chatting to people in pubs and bars here like I do in Japan, you meet some interesting people.
If you don't like South Asians then avoid East Ham, though there are good South Asian restaurants there you'll have to deal with everything feeling a lot more "unkempt."
All in all, London is a fairly active city in the UK, compared to where I'm from where all you see are people on benefits or OAPs walking around in town during the day while everyone else is at work, and its overall very quiet (maybe too much so for a young person).
Would not settle here'

'I lived there for five years altogether. I love it and hate it. I lived in a canal boat there for a couple of years. I found a cosy way of life and it just worked for me at the time. It's a very crowded city, and very big. Probably highlights for me were going to the Proms in summer, the parks, cycling to Windsor. the canals obviously (there are a couple of tunnels in London, including one long one that runs under Islington, not that many people get to see it). I used to ride to work near Tower Hill and go along the Canal then through Regent's Park, Hyde Park, Buckingham Palace, St. James' Park, and along the Embankment and the Thames down to Tower Bridge. It was a great way to start the day, much nicer than getting rammed into a tube car and boiling on the Central line. If you like to nerd out at history there's tons of it in London.

Downsides are, lots of crowds, lots of places that are just grim, grey, and same-y, People being miserable. Crime. Shitty weather for much of the year. Expensive as fuck.'

'Not the biggest authority on the matter by far, of course, since of the many times I've been to the UK I've spent at most a week in London altogether, since I usually avoid the bigger cities like the plague.
But the time that I have spent there has been good, visited many museums (incluiding the incredible Imperial War Museum), Abbey Road studios where I mingled with many Beatle bros, walked around drunk on rainy nights and having nice late nite dinner, saw a Shakespeare play at the Globe, met nice people at hostels, and discovered a really nice pub where I had the best ribs I've ever had in my life and which has been my go to place when I find myself in London (Black Prince pub in Kennington/Lambeth).
But my favorite thing about the city is simply the feeling of being there walking in a city with such historical weight and meaning. Won't get in any /pol/ tier discussion about the demographics and issues of the city tho, since I only wanted to highlight the positive experiences I've had there.'

If you plan it out you'll have a good time. Just do like a day around Trafalgar Square and Green Park, a day at Kew Gardens, a day at Greenwich seeing the park and Cutty Sark, maybe fit MCM Comic Con in if you're a nerd and around at the end of May, be sure to visit some pubs too. The one by the Hayes Gallery at London Bridge is pretty good.'
