>What is this thread? Why are there two generals?
/rcg/ was initially created as a way for the roller coaster enthusiasts on here to discuss all things roller coasters and theme parks. While roller coasters are the main focus of these threads (and the title of the general) there is also discussion on other theme parks, their rides, as well as the parks themselves and trip planning too. That's where /tpg/ comes in.
>Can I talk about Disney/Universal parks in this thread?
Absolutely! Disney discussion of all sorts including rides/resorts/dining/trip planning is OK.

Thread Tip Pro: When in line for a coaster with a bunch of normies, feel free to autistically infodump to them every single iota of information you know about the ride you are about to go on: opening date, manufacturer, # of inversions, stats etc.

B&M's significantly longer (and heavier) trains wouldn't be able to navigate RRR's layout safely, and would also make maintenence on the vertical lift hell. Plus the greater height in B&M's seats might force the park to add an absolutely retarded height limit like SD2000 did. ETR’s video highlighted a lot more wrong than just the trains. I didn’t know they fired Mauer and finished it themselves. Or that the track has a white stripe in parts where the wheels would wear out the paint but the wheels don’t touch because it’s a piece of shit. The track has shit profiling and that valley risk after the non inverted loop is just poor design. They shouldn’t pour any more money into this piece of garbage. The Steel Dragon 2000 B&M trains were custom made. They could probably custom make a short train with 2-across seating. Would they want to though? It would need onboard audio too. Looks a really fun coaster, flexible multi-launch systems are really starting to let designers get creative.

First time I've seen a setup for a launch that looks like it's only used when a car gets stopped at the blocks. Could see more coasters using this for more seamless blocking, especially for single car spining/wild mouse coasters where having block brakes every 15 seconds limits what you can do.'

She just threw the plans at me the other day, she wanted to go to hollywood studios and I had to explain to her that it's probably going to be packed because Star Wars day + weekend. So we switched to Magic Kingdom which at least to me is the only full day WDW park still.

Cabana bay simply because we like the hotel in general, we've been there before and the pool is nice. It's a good "staycation" resort especially for the money. Also, no, we won't be going to universal. We've never been before except for Citywalk which is really lame and cramped relative to Disney Springs. But I looked at some menu photos and the chocolate emporium looks like a fun birthday place, you're right. Might as well try that one night

We could still do Volcano Bay, we've never been and it's not ruled out but she was not understanding why we would go to a waterpark when Cabana has a decent pool with a lazy river + slide. I guess she doesn't care about much else.'

Staying at hotels and not going to any parks was common for us, being cheap Floridians. My parents have been to Universal and I don't really have a desire to go without them.

'We got new speculation maps for HHN based on the inside source chatters and rumors. First up, Orlando. Since the previous spec map, the total amount of speculated IPs has dropped from the usual five to four, losing out on Nightmare on Elm Street in the process. Insiders are saying Universal tried to get the rights to make a house based on the first Elm Street film, that fell through, they started to work on an original storyline involving Freddy, and then they lost the rights altogether, so no Nightmare this year.
This Orlando spec map breaks down into the following house lineup:
>SS24A (IP) - A Quiet Place
>SS23B (IP) - Ghostbusters
>SS22 (IP) - Female-focused Universal Monsters/Bride of Frankenstein specifically
>SS23A (original) - Latin America (trees)
>SS24B (original) - Sweet Revenge
>F&F (original) - Unknown Original (Nightmare on Elm Street replacement)
>Tent 1 (original) - Egyptian/museum-themed
>Tent 2 (original) - Entirely black-and-white house
>Tent 3 (original) - Slaughter Sinema II (speculated by some to be potentially based on 1950s sci-fi B-movies)
>Tent 4 (IP) - Insidious
This new spec map has also lost the previous IP show speculated to be a Harold & Kumar show, so we're back to just having Nightmare Fuel as the only show.'

>Ube Venue (IP) - A Quiet Place
>SS22 (IP) - Ghostbusters
>T-Pad (IP) - Texas Chainsaw Massacre
>Terror Tram (IP) - Blumhouse
>H-Lot T1 (IP) - Female-focused Universal Monsters/Bride of Frankenstein specifically

The first launch accelerates quickly, much faster than a Mack launch. It continues to accelerate to 74 MPH but it isn’t a gradual acceleration across the length of the track, it has an initial punch. It’s weaker than the original launch obviously but it’s not bad. I would compare it to Maverick, very similar but this uses a longer train and there are two rows of LSM stators.

The ride really gets going when you roll backwards and the other two launches are intense. The overall ride experience is very intense, much more than the original as you spend more time at 100+ MPH. The final launch up and over the top hat is way faster than TTD pulled you over. It’s very intense and quick and has ejector airtime. You’re also higher than the original trains so the heart line is above the original making the twists more intense. It might make some of the GP uncomfortable. The rattle though, people are downplaying it. I thought it was bad and it gave me a headache'

One more thing about the rattle. I was talking to people in line about it on my 3rd ride and got the feeling it was an uncomfortable subject.. almost as if everybody knows it's a problem but doesn't want to admit it at the for some reason. Maybe because they're excited to ride it? Somebody on reddit said they "only heard people do so in hushed tones" at the event and I agree with this. The rattle is not good, the ride isn't even officially open yet. The ride itself is fantastic, but I'm concerned about the rattle. It made it feel wild like the train was going to come apart, especially in the middle rows'

It's good whilst it lasts but it is very short. You get on the app just before 7am, then at 6:59am start hammering the refresh so you get a slot as soon as it opens (Tron isn't as difficult to get as Cosmic Rewind). If you fuck up, the queue opens for evening slots at either 12pm or 1pm (can't remember) and these slots are slower to fill (you can't ride twice unless you buy a lightning lane though)

The ride looks worse than it is, the outside bit is right after the launch so it's the fastest point and it's very high up. The launch is fun without being intense enough to be scary and there are no actual drops.

My Disney intensity rankings as a wuss: 7D > Runaway Mine train > Tron > Space Mountain > Expedition Everest = Cosmic Rewind'

I don't know what to think. On the one hand, enthusiasts will create a reality distortion field around Cedar Point so that legitimate gripes are ignored or drowned out.

On the other hand mostly young enthusiasts think that some B&Ms are "rough" because they've grown up in an era of mostly smooth rides.

If I had to guess complaints about rattling are probably overblown.'

B&M rattle has never bothered me. TT2's rattle gave me a headache but to be fair this was after my third ride in less than 2.5 hours. The original TTD had a slight rattle at the end of the launch and this was also where you saw the track and support columns sway as it shot up the top hat. It still does that but the new track up the spike also has a rattle. Rattle aside, it is not rough at all, it is very smooth. I don't think I'll ride it multiple times in a row again... but I don't expect an opportunity to do that again for a while anyways.

Zamperla's pre-lightning coasters were also higher off the ground and this might be amplifying the shimmy and rattle. I kind of wonder what Intamin would have done for this project? They probably would have replaced all the track and supports but the trains would also probably be shorter and capacity worse.'

Neighbouring as in a Disney or non-Disney one?

Offsite benefits:
>Much cheaper
>easier access to cheaper food
>better access to uncommon family rooms (when you need more than 2 queen beds)
>some offer pools that are practically small waterparks

Offside drawbacks:
>cheaper ones attract shitty families or school/college groups
>$30 a day Disney parking
>when they're shitty, they're really shitty

Onsite benefits:
>"Disney bubble" it's a meme but it is comfy and helps add to a first time holiday
>Disney transport, busses, monorail, cablecar. It's pretty great and allows splitting up far more easier
>Extra Magic hours: get at a park for early rope drop and you'll be able to do 2-3 of the busiest rides in the first hour.
>Memory maker, free dining plans and whatever perks they offer your country.

Onsite drawbacks:
>eye wateringly expensive
>you will hate Scooters, they add so much time to busses, busses also can get big queues
>ultimately, the furnishings can be nice but you're probably going to get the same 2xqueen layout you get everywhere.'

Can't recommend offsite examples. I've only 'recently' stayed at the Maingate Lakeside which was insanely cheap with a great location but a bit rundown. For a "a hotel is just somewhere to sleep" type person, probably not good for families. Pools in most hotels are rarely ultra busy but obviously watch out for huge resorts than only have 1 small pool.

Onsite I'd recommend Pop Century. Skyride access (queues look huge in mornings but move at a walking pace so you're not in them long) to Epcot and Studios. 3 pools (albeit with no slides), two of which are usually quieter. Better upkeep than the All Stars and possibly the best Disney bang:buck resort.

There's a good argument that 'all' they need to do is add a Fantasy Springs level expansion to every park. Would a 5th park serve them better than stuffing 3-4 major new rides in each park and meaning that people will probably need more than one day in normal crowds?

The one-in-one-out policy for rides hasn't been great. They also need to embrace the b-tier cheesy rides more. Peter Pan having insane queues isn't JUST down to the capacity. Going back to Fantasy Springs, it doesn't seem like there are any stand-out e-tickets, just lots of neat dark rides (although they seem to expect the Tinkerbell ride to be insanely busy)'

And being able to walk right into Cedar Point is a very nice perk and the main reason people recommend it. It also has several restaurants and pools, a beach bar and activities and stuff on the beach. The waterpark is right next to it too.

Hotels in Sandusky are expensive during peak season. The holiday inn express right near the causeway wants like $300+ on weekends which isn’t much less than Breakers. I think their hotels are decently priced compared to others and you get early entry into the park.'

i just got back from a few days at universal. if you arent stopping in at every shop and skip most of the kid friendly rides, you can ride every ride worth riding in both parks in a day. i didnt go to the water park.

recommend:
- velocicoaster
- hagrid's. consistently has the worst wait time out of all rides at the parks. take my advice, never go into the single rider line for this ride. you will wait 2-3x as long as the regular line. i did it the first time i rode it, which is why i know.
- the mummy. it reminded me of space mountain
- hollywood rip ride rockit
- the hulk, if you dont mind this ride really throwing you around rough to where you notice after

water rides:
- dudley doright's ripsaw falls. you will get somewhat soaked. recommend
- popeyes barge river ride. you will get soaked. recommend
- i dont really recommend the jurassic world water ride if you are cutting it for time. the only thing interesting about the ride is the drop toward the end of it. the rest of it is just waiting to get to the drop. you will get soaked the least on this ride

mediocre:
- harry potter ride in universal studios florida. most of this ride is jumping through hoops to get to the actual ride
- men in black. shooting ride, can be fun if you go with other people.
- harry potter ride in islands of adventure. i almost dont recommend it because you are going to feel like you are getting sea sickness if you get one of the outer seats

dont recommend:
- king kong/skull island
- fast and furious
- spiderman
- jimmy fallon
- simpsons
- the train

didnt ride:
- any minions rides because i dont care at all about minions
- ET
- transformers
- the dr. seuss rides because they are all kids rides
- doctor dooms free fall. it is just one of those rides where it goes up to the top, and falls down
- the spinning thing near the hulk
- the spinning thing in the simpsons area
- pteradon fliers. kid ride, and it wasnt open
- the harry potter kid roller coaster in islands of adventure'

let me mention one more thing since i hit the limit in my previous post. from my observations, the express pass is really not worth it in most cases. most of those people seemed to wait just as long as me in the regular line. dont waste your money on it.
if you are curious about butterbeer, it is just cream soda. there, i just saved you $9.50.
from what i could tell, most of the ride lockers were free except for the ones near the water rides. if you need to use a locker, they are going to expect you to keep your pass on you so you can reopen the locker. maybe bring a ziploc or something to keep your ticket dry, assuming you are getting a paper or soft cardboard ticket like they gave me. if you accidentally put your ticket in the locker and close it without realizing it, there is usually an attendant nearby who will let you back into it. just remember your locker number if this occurs.
for lockers, all rides except velocicoaster have the lockers in the area around the entrance to the ride. deal with the locker before you get on the ride. velocicoaster is the exception because you will access the lockers around roughly halfway into the ride line. the entrance line side has access to one side of the lockers, and the exit line side will allow you to get your stuff out from the back side of the locker.

if you are going to volcano bay and are not staying at or near cabana bay, just take a bus to city walk and then walk over to the buses that go to cabana bay. you save a lot of walking this way.'

I found out how you're supposed to ride it. First of all you shouldn't look around at all. You should just look straight ahead and the ride will point you at what it wants you to look at. The company sucks right now. They need a complete executive turnover, a new board, restructuring, culture and focus change, etc, and they need to return to their roots and hire actual creatives. For several years they've made terrible decisions and changes to their parks and resorts.

After avoiding them for a couple years I found myself with my wife and kids at Epcot recently... and still had a good time despite all the controversial changes. It doesn't feel like a complete park (and it's overpriced for what it is) but we spent a full day. Also went to IoA and one major difference with kids is that a lot of the Universal attractions are very loud, splash water on you, shoot fire, etc. more than at Disney which can be intense for kids. Universal had better playground areas though. Both pale in comparison to the kids sections at some of the better regional parks (Kings Island and Dollywood for example).

Anyways, they're on an unsustainable trajectory and things will have to change. They're not just going to become an irrelevant ghost town after Epic opens either but it will force them to compete. They're just be playing catchup and probably making creatively poor decisions with irrelevant IPs is the problem.'

You won't want to hear this, but the most effective way is literally pen and paper. Take notes of all the queue times every 5 minutes and detect trends.

You need to catch rides on the downswing before they trough and capture attention of people on the app. You head to a """short queue""" and you'll probably end up spending 5x the amount of time there like an amateur.

Remember, the park isn't incentivised to make you go on more rides (wear and tear). You have to beat them at their own game.'

I didn't find the ride obnoxiously short like the internet made me expect, I was thinking it would be Barnstormer-tier. I also didn't find the seating position uncomfortable or unsecure, although I did make it tighter after a CM left it a little too loose.

Someone in the last thread said something about a reveal in the queue and when I saw that part it was super cool with the music going. The theming was somewhat generic scifi but still cool the scale of it.

I camped on the app right at 7am to make the virtual queue instantly and our group wasn't called until about 2pm but once we were there it was like a 10 minute wait from front door to riding. I also like the movie so maybe that makes me biased for this ride but it's like a must-do now for me.'

The high capacity rides can fluctuate massively. RotR, Expedition Everest and Flights of Pandora etc. The rides with capacity issues stay high the whole day (7D, Slinky, Peter Pan). Never do Spaceship Earth early, it's walk on in the afternoon and you'll be happy for 15 minutes sitting down in the AC after all that fucking walking you do.

If you've got Extra Magic Hours, get there for early rope drop and these are the rides you get the most benefit for:

MK : 7 dwarves, Peter Pan.
AK : Two Pandora rides then depending on how much you want to rush around, Safari.
Studios: Slinky Dog, RotR, Smugglers run.
Epcot: Ratatouille, Frozen

Obviously you may not even want to do some of those and a bunch of them aren't anywhere near the best in the park, but it you're even like "I wouldn't mind doing XYZ" some of those rides will be fun if you've only waited 15 minutes whereas waiting 70mins for some of them will make you feel short changed.

Remember, if you're not refreshing the app constantly in time for 7am, you stand a good chance of not getting boarding passes for Cosmic Rewind and Tron but the queues reopen at 1pm and take a long time to fill (but it will likely be in the evening). Cosmic Rewind is an insanely fun coaster.

>>2656753

I think they should only be in the theater area or Autopia if they ever demolish/shorten it. The small dark rides are a huge part of that park's charm and I'd hate to see any go. Then again it's unlikely any of them go due to space reasons anyway.

You have to realize that just checking the app and considering wait times puts you above most of the other people visiting the park. Most guests are not savvy at all to this stuff, especially at Disney where plenty of people go with little to no experience with any sort of theme/amusement parks. If you are able to get in line for a ride within a few minutes of seeing a low wait time, it's usually pretty accurate. If you have to run across the entire park, then you might be too late, but remember that if Haunted Mansion hits 10 minutes while Bob is like for two hours in Seven Dwarfs, there isn't shit he can do about it.

The only real exception I've noticed to wait time apps' accuracy is HHN.'

Its been a hot fucking minute sense I've been genuinely excited for new Disney stuff. I'm not s star wars or marvel guy, so I've kind of just tapped out for a bit, until that admittedly very well done toon town renavation at Disneyland. But this, this is why I loved Disney so much. I'm embarrassed to admit, but I am pretty hyped for fantasy springs.

But I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the food looked gross. Those yellow colored patties at the ugly duckling place aren't sitting right with me.

The Tokyo monorails are an underrated highlight of the resort. There better then most of the other Disney monorails, they look so nice, and there incredibly spacious. But no...They are NOT quite. I guess that doesn't affect me too much, because I expect Disney parks in general to be loud, no matter what part of the world your in.

>>2657787
Well that's because of there focus on there bigger pop culture brands at the moment. Florida's fantasy land feels like the cheapest one. Disneyland's is still great though. Mostly because Disneyland still has the quaint aura still.

I don't why, but I always imagined doing a sonic land as there first video game IP. though I assume that's pretty hard considering the new films mads by Paramount and all. Other then that, I can't really imagine what video game IP Disney will use in the parks. Maybe...Final fantasy? I mena they already have a good relationship with square soo...'

It's not as bad as putting zazu or Iago in there, but they should have done something else with him (there is that one theater thing where you can talk to stitch though) and for that marvel thing....Putting bias aside, do you think that will go over well with the fans over there? They should really just get rid of genie+ and virtual queuing altogether, the lines moved well after they got rid of fp+ and before they rolled out genie. Adding capacity via new attractions rather than replace would help too but it also increases attendance as people want to see the new stuff (I suppose they could clone popular attractions next to themselves for capacity.. they considered it for frozen and kinda did it for Toy Story).

They make a lot of money off of genie+ and it costs a lot of money to staff additional attractions, but if they didn't have G+ the crowding outside of rides would go down and the lines would move faster. People would be less miserable and in-park spending would increase to help offset what they lost. Wishful thinking though. Attendance will drop somewhat when EU opens.. maybe.. EU might affect Disney hotel occupancy more than their park attendance.'

Oh I’m aware. But it’s parkfans forum regulars who have been given accurate info in the past who are saying it. Kumba isn’t a draw like it was 30 years ago but it still gets a line when the park is busy. It’s still one of the best B&M loopers. It’s still smooth if you get a train that doesn’t have worn out wheels. And it’s historically more important than Loch Ness IMO. It probably doesn’t need a full Hulk replacement either, Universal did that because they can and because of the Marvel contract'

'California Check

Norcal: So Great America and Discovery Kingdom are done within 10 years, right? GA for sure and Discovery Kingdom is a dump except for one small section of the park. How can NorCal not sustain theme parks?

Knott's: there was an announcement that Montezooma construction was starting again but all they did was remove the spikes and now I haven't seen any progress since. Camp Snoopy is whatever but I guess they had to replace their kiddie coaster.

SFMM: Apparently Magic Mountain teased a ride about a robot bird, did not elaborate, and fucked right off. I don't see any progress on this one either. I force myself to ride Viper every time I go because I'm convinced it's getting the boot soon. Isn't it the last Arrow mega looper?

Lego Land: This year's additions were woefully underwhelming but some indoor coaster concept leaked which seems cool.

Disneyland: The Tiana ride looks laughably bad compared to Splash Mountain, and I hear that the ride will not allow any scariness as it's aimed at little girls. That masterful buildup to the final drop on Splash is probably going to be replaced by something upbeat and gay.

DCA: Have no idea what's next for DCA. I'm guessing the two new areas they are going to build in now that they have the city's approval are going to be giant IP dumps with nothing original. Hopefully they spend money.

Sea World: What serviceable but underwhelming coaster do you think is next? I predict it will be painted... blue. They massacred the main entrance, which suggests Sea World is just going to be a poor man's Six Flags going forward.

Universal: the theme is stupid but if the Fast and Furious coaster is on par with Velocicoaster but with drifting, it's going to be great. Too bad it's opening in 2026 though. Hopefully they figure out how to cram the donkey kong land in the lower lot. I heard they can demolish some old studios since they built giant replacements. USH will never be USF but they are doing a good job'

That’s called airtime. Or in the case of being pushed out of your seat, ejector airtime. People get that falling sensation in their stomach playing VR on a flat floor when they “fall” because a lot of it is in your head and once you get used to it you’ll wish you had it back. I only get it on some drop towers (not falcon’s flight, that is like forward acceleration), the first drop on time traveler, and every now and then like on one of Mako’s airtime hills (one of the smaller ones and only that one). And sometimes on Magnum’s finale.'

Learning to breathe out steadily during a drop did so much to lessen the stomach feeling.

That said, I've notice a lot more sustained low g bits in family coasters without the losing stomach feeling. Not sure if it's down to them being faster or if modern design and manufacturing allows them to make coasters that can do intense swoops that that get close to that point without triggering the sensation.

I got some ideas for things they could do with tomorrow land. There not special or anything, but there better then the shitty Nemo submarine ride.

>Replace the buzz light year ride with something similar too adventures thru inner space. Didn't have to be the same concept, but something semi educational. Perhaps you shrink down and go through a computer, and learn how a motherboard works or some shit.

>Update space mountain. Doesn't need to be the tron coaster, but it would be nice to have a newer version. Tokyo Disneyland is updating there's, and there concepts look great. Just copy whatever there doing.

>Have robots roam around the land. Something similar to the droids. That's a perfect opportunity to make marketable Disney parks character to sell merch of. And adds to the tomorrow in tomorrow land.

>Make the land more eco centric. Make the the land feel like a futuristic green house. Fuck - add a futuristic looking green house. It would look nice, promote a optimistic future, and more importantly for them, make them look like they care (even though that ships probably sailed a while ago.)

>Add more fountains. Why....Because futuristic fountains sound cool.

>Add some sonny eclipse kind of alien guy. Tokyos got there weird pizza alien, Orlando obviously has sonny, give Anaheim there own stupid looking alien. Infact, give them a cheesy band. Or, if were too allergic too create anything new, make some animatronic band with the other aliens that appear in the stitch franchise. Stitch is still super popular, and it's technically not ouf of character for stitch.

>An arcade. Just...an arcade. Just put fic it Felix cabinets in there.

It all depends on how you want to approach it, if it's your first time and the time of year. You can do 1 day at each park but it's intensive as fuck and you run the risk of not getting some rides done. I'd say 1.5 days for each park is generally fair for low to moderate crowds (I did everything in Disney in 5 days but we hit it hard). If time is more of a premium than money then getting Extra Magic hours staying at Disney and an Xpress pass at Universal are musts.

Allow for rest/easy days, possibly at a waterpark. Parks like Epcot can easily rack up 20km of walking in a day.'

Slight cringe, my brother's photo (group of 3, got put in separate cars) on Cosmic Rewind last year had all the other strangers in his car dabbing.

Outside of that, I get picked for audience participation all the time. Got picked on for Port Aventura (show was entirely in Spanish, they explained nothing to me).
