War of Rights seems to be the most populated of this genre lately, though with games like this that's only a few hundred players at peak. I remember trying Bannerlord but regular servers were dead and it seemed to be exclusively people organizing fights with rulesets rather than naturally occurring battlelines in other games like Holdfast or Napoleonic.';

If you want casual matches that don't play like chaos, War of Rights is pretty much the only game of the genre I have in mind. With casual Holdfast games people run around wherever with no repercussions which can be fun, but in War of Rights you pretty much have to stay in line if you want to win and most people know it, a lot of incentives to staying in line (less reinforcement losses, less screen shaking, better sprint recovery etc).

The only thing is that it really does have only a few players. Best time to get on is around 6-7 pm mountain time for those big 300 player count games. For things like bannerlord, warband, whatever you'll have to talk to gay recruiters and join a mumble or discord for more organized games.'
