When you play Poland in EU4 to the north you have the scandis, to the west HRE then france then Iberia/UK, to the south Hungary, then Ottos then Mameluks then "maybe" Ethiopians, but to the east you have Muscovy/Russia, then hordes, then China, then Manchu/Korea/Japan, but going that direction is way less interesting because of all the uncolonised land, so it's more interesting to go through India. It often feels like Byzzies or the HRE are "supposed" to be center of the content, but in the 1st case there's nothing really south once you beat Egypt, and in the HRE case you really have to wait for colonial powers to "do their thing" to have any longer fun going westwards.'

I'm talking less about blobbing, (Although that's involved) and more about havong competitors, for example when you play as ottos, if it was just you and minors in italy, then you would be overwhelming, but you have to compete in and for italy with France Spain and the HRE, likewise as France if there is no hostile AustroHungary/Ottos, Scandis or Poland/Russia, then HRE is open season, because UK and Spain usually won't be able to mount a defence there. Basically I'm talking about cardinality when it comes to fighting about stuff, in the same vein that Poland being allied to Ming means jack shit if you border Poland because Ming would have to walk all the way through Russia or India, which even if they come eventually, means that you can already secure a victory by then.
And that same cardinality means that when you break Mamluks as Otto, there's really no one below you you ever have to worry about again for the rest of the game, so that kind off changes how you see the game from now on, instead of being a country on a globe, you are a border of the map by yourself.'

Bohemia is at its peak in the 14th century and irl only was brought to near ruin by the Hussite Wars, which legit killed like half the kingdom's population. I feel like for a player they could very much be one of the easiest starts assuming they don't hardcode the hussite stuff to always be so devastating
Muscovy was in the very early stages of its rise in 1337. it's in a relatively strong position but tver/novgorod/maybe another could easily fuck them over with the right set of cicumstances

TLDR they're a lot like the Yuan in that they're a powderkeg about to explode. except unlike the Yuan it's basically happening right at gamestart instead of 20 years down the line
Dehli IRL peaked like 2 years prior and loses a lot of that territory in the following 20 years, like it had just lost the hoysala and vijayanagara territories on that map in the preceding 2 years before the start date. so realistically it should crumble 95/100 times without player help
I can't be assed to make a smaller version of the 1420 map to conform to size restrictions but since the eu4 borders in 1444 of these countries are basically the same :
they lose the bahmani and bengal sultanates by 1360, a new dehli ruler stabilizes the situation but he died in 1388 and they lose jaunpur and malwa by 1400, by 1420 they lost gujarat and are reduced to punjab and the territory it had in 1444. without a good ruler stabilizing the situation in the 1350s shit could've gone to hell a lot faster

Is that the final map or just speculation? Because the Iberian Peninsula was nowhere near as united as pictured there.
Portugal maybe, but Aragon and Castile? No way. Aragon was just a collection of Kingdoms with different laws each ones and different nobility that sometimes didn't even get along them and even fought against the King if they didn't get their way.
Castile was a bit more centralized, but still at the same level as France. And France is fragmented as hell in this game.'

But knowing pdox and the current day faggotry it will be at best a modifier where the malus outweigh the bonuses you would get.
Early colonialization should be different for different countries anyways, with alternative history choices given, like the portos using fortified trading posts in the beginning, then switching to permanent settlements and sugar mills in brazil, the french trying to cuck them with their navy and befriending tupi tribes against the portos and so on.'

Also from the beginning clerics rallied against their enslavement as they saw the natives as possessing souls and being convertable, which was formulated in the new laws of 1542 by Charles II. Negroes were not seen as possessing souls and anti slavery movements against them only came after the anglos were under jewish control and then being legislated in 1836.'

You are correct and America is probably the best example of a product of mass migration from that time period, but why mention the Ottomans? The Ottomans are a bad example, since they never really settled the Balkans or the Middle East in any significant way. By the start of the game Anatolia was already roach central, this was a product of mass migration which occurred in previous centuries. The ottomans themselves just conquered the Anatolian turks and then they never really Mass migrated anywhere really. I mean even the territory which Turkey possesses on the Balkan peninsula today was turkified slowly during the course of centuries and into the 1800s there were still quite a few greek and bulgar Christians living in that area. Even in the depths of Asia Minor and Anatolia you could find greeks well into the early 1900s. So no the Ottomans are actually not the best case for mass migration at all. They absolutely failed to colonize and ethnically cleanse or assimilate their territories, which is exactly why they lost them relatively easily. By the time the Balkan states became independant the turkish muslims where relatively small minorities which got kicked out and killed off.

Yes they are a horrible example, because turks never made up more than 25 to 30% of the population of countries like Greece and Bulgaria. In some parts of the balkans you never even had turkish minorities. After like 400 to 600 (depending on the region) years of consistent ottoman rule of the peninsula... You call that an example of historic mass migration? All it took to get rid of the small turkish minorities in these countries was a few small scale population exchanges. Now look at the USA after 500 years of constant european mass migration to north America. There ain't a lot of injuns left are there? And what about South America? Yeah it's pretty mixed because the spaniards insistence on fucking the locals, but still. Pure blooded amerindians are a minority in most latinx countries today. The turks had literal centuries and they failed to properly colonize the relatively underpopulated region of the Balkans. What a fucking joke. This is why they represent a bad example. Because they failed and as I said before this is why they lost these territories. The Americas are a good example of a rapid mass migration permanently replacing the local populations, the ottomans are not. They barely mass migrated within their own borders at all.
>>1750864
What were the anglo saxon invasions? How were Hungary and Bulgaria formed? How did the turks become the majority population in Anatolia and Asia Minor? etc
Just because the ottomans specifically are a bad example doesn't mean that medieval mass migrations which lead to complete genetic or at least cultural and linguistic replacement didn't happen.'

Moved goalposts. No one said anything about it being rapid or "permanent replacement".
The point is that Bulgaria and Greece having significant Turkish populations means there was in fact a Turkish mass migration. It doesn't matter if they didn't do it to the entire Balkans or if their empire ultimately collapsed or if it took hundreds of years or if the colonization of the Americas did it more. A statistically significant number of Turkish people moved from Anatolia into some Balkan countries during the EU time period, that's a mass migration.'

Regular troops requiring manpower as upkeep means you can't just hire infinity regular troops, you need the actual trained manpower to staff them. So you can push more of your manpower into actual units while at war, but it'll drain your manpower quickly because it outpaces your ability to recruit and train more men
The way it looks, units have "Strength" which seems to function like unit Strength in HoI or Victoria, basically if a regiment/brigade/division is under-strength it functions at a fraction of its power, if Strength is zero it basically only exists on paper and does nothing in combat
So I assume being out of manpower and unable to replenish it would drain a unit's strength over time as losses mount and can't be replaced

>how will that work with mercenaries
You hire them for a set period and they have nothing to do with manpower. I bet they have their own manpower pool'

The whole hundred years war was so crazy that I have a feeling it is beyond paradox's capabilities to replicate it in a satisfying way. I mean, England should be the premier military power in europe at the start of the game, how will they account for it falling behind and transitioning to a naval power in the renaissance? What if the player steamrolls france in the first 10 years? What about all of the random shit that changed the course of war completely like crecy or agincourt, or joan of arc appearing? I get that its alternate history, but setting it this far back could make the game radically different by the time of the renaissance when the meat of the game takes place.'

CK3 amphibious movements are honestly better for gameplay, abstracting the transport ships away allows the AI to actually move across water.
now with EU5 having concepts like "maritime presence", control of sea lanes etc. it might not be so bad if troops could just turn into boats and cross water for a fee. Since you'd still have to control the sea locations to do it.
Though since we've already seen that units have "weight" I feel like it'll probably just be your typical HoI/Vicky/EU transport ships and the AI will still never figure out how to use them.'
