Azula still has two free limbs and (probably) can breath fire. So, even if I personally think she was going to lose since it made sense for her to be weak to waterbenders and the narrative framing of Zuko's intervention, I don't get why people are so sure that she was going to lose.

Zuko and Mai were not the only characters to be hit with the idiot ball in the comics. The Gaang and Azula acted like a bunch of dumbasses. But thankfully for the heroic characters, them being teenagers responsible for rebuilding a war torn world can do a lot of heavy lifting, even if it would be better to retcon the comics. And in Azula's case, they have all but said that she doesn't do the obvious and murk everyone or start a civil war because she still cares for them.';
