The HKS series ones that sell for like $10-12; they're reliable but I generally only use them for unloading my carry loads& putting snap caps into my gun when I'm dryfiring at home. It was a cheap cop trade-in, it's polymer, the upper has some kind of fancy rust proof nitride finish. It's a generic basic glock brand glock that can be easily replaced (and I've already got a spare). Basically I can sweat all over it and generally abuse it with no qualms.

I used to carry a rotating roster of BHPs, 1911s, and revolvers, because they're beautiful and pleasures to own and shoot and I love them. But sweating on em and risking rust and damage just made me sad. I finally realized the old guns had nothing left to prove, and it was OK for them to go on easy duty in the safe, and let the plastic fantastic take the punishment. Honestly any other modern poly striker pistol would have done just as well, I just standardized on glock because of ubiquity and more/better holster options.'

I'm gonna get one of those carry strips, they seem like a good solution. I carry a few rounds in a small pocket in my backpack but it's far from an elegant solution. I carry under the same assumption, it's for busting a cap in an attacker/mugger/carjacker after I've exhausted all other options and getting the fuck out of harm's way. I carry pepper gel otherwise, like at bars or work. I only carry the SD9VE during the winter because the LARP is fun and the SD9 is very light for its size and capacity. I've got a Pardner Pump that I've put through it's paces for home defense, as well as PSA AR I've run at least 2000 rounds through. Fuck people who say cheap guns will break if you look at them.'

No holes. They sell clips that match the sideplate screws of several models of S&W and Ruger, and then they sell a "universal" revolver clip which is what I have. It's attached by a double-sided 3M adhesive strip. The two screws you see just connect the clip to the plate that's attached to the adhesive. At first I was dubious as to whether adhesive would be enough to hold it on, but after about a year of carrying it literally every day it's held up perfectly
They also have clips for semi-autos'

Oh, they why part: LCP2 is small and light enough that sricking it in my pocket has just become.part.of getting dressed. It's th most innocuous pistol I've ever owned. In a pocket holster, it just looks like a phone. Main carry gun is a .40 caliber of some sort for a few reasons. First, because I got the Glock 23 and the Styer M40a1 both for dirt cheap in the 2010s when police depts were dumping 9mms and .40s in favor of .45s (around here, bought both local), paid less that $300 each for them. At the time, I was also traveling a ton for work, like 5-6 hrs a day driving, so there was an increased chance of having to deal with car body/glass in a shooting situation, and the research at the time showed most .40 loadings were more barrier blind than comparable 9mm or .45 loads. At this point, I'm used to shooting .40, I can't perceive a recoil difference between non-magum pistol calibers, and I stockpiled a shitton of ammo when walmart quit selling pistol ammo and I cleared out all 6 in my area. I picked up the Glock 27 as a possible replacement for the LCP2 as a pocket gun, didn't like it for that role as much, so it's a backup that usually stays in my truck in case I have an emergency and don't have time to put on a holster and belt and get a gun out of the safe before leaving my house. The Jericho goes in a shoulder holster under a suit for when I'm bebopping around town. The USP45 I got as a target/woods/nightstand gun. I wanted a long barrel, good sights, and something that could handle .45 Supers regularly as a defensive load, the USP45 Elite fit the bill, and has good capacity to boot.'

'43x with SCD is primary. Use to carry a PPS M2. I just like the extra safety during reholster for training purposes. Only using stock mags. I got the gun used with shield mags, but they were unreliable and destroyed the mag release since the PO didn't change it out to a metal one.
I've carried my 1911 like twice when it was super cold. I'm not as well trained in it compared to the Glock. Might start carrying it more since I've gotten fatter and AWIB is getting uncomfortable.

I might consider putting a 365 in some non factory config in as back up as well, since it's probably the gun I have most rounds on.
Or I'll just get another 43X as a back up.'

It's the most concealable option by a longshot. Used to have a thin nylon holster for my .38 but it caused a buldge& noticeable printing. It's also very very comfortable - i wear it all day long at work moving around, driving, sitting. I even wear it while exercising on my bike with gym shorts on. It's viable on a revolver because of the long heavy trigger pull, but i wouldn't carry a striker-fired semi-auto with the clipdraw

Doesn't matter; this is how you prioritize:
>firstly, perfect reliability
>secondly, groups well for you at the range
>Thirdly, comfy to carry, fits your activity/clothing and doesn't imprint to much.
>Fourth, not overly special / collectible
This is how you pick. If it isn't 100% reliable, don't carry it. If don't shoot it well, you'll shoot it even worse under stress. If it isn't comfy, it will be unpleasant to carry and you may end up not having it on you at all. If it's collectible, losing it to an abusive evidence locker will really suck.

For me, I switch back and forth between a Glock 43x, slightly modded with a red dot, threaded barrel and ghost connector and a Glock 42 with aftermarket night sights. I do not shoot anything else better than the 43x and it's slim profile makes it comfortable to carry.'

Indeed, Glock went with that gay ass optic footprint. So, to get the EPScarry to sit the way I like, I had to grind two posts off the slide with a dremel. Now the EPScarry looks like it was custom milled into the slide, perfect fit. The ghost connector provides a much cleaner trigger break which helps with accuracy. I'm getting 2" groups at 10 yards which is about all the better I can shoot these days and the threaded barrel just gives a little extra barrel length while allowing attachment of the suppressor.

Your priorities are wrong.
#1 : insure it's something you'll carry. If it's not on you it's worthless. If it's not on you it doesn't matter how good a shot you are with it or how reliable it is. Your carry gun must be something you are going to carry. If you find yourself even thinking it's a burden to take with you somewhere, get a new carry gun because you're going to start leaving that one at home or in the car or whatever, and if it's not on you it's worthless.
#2 Reliability. How well you shoot with it means nothing if it doesn't go bang when you pull the trigger.
#3 Proficiency. Makes the first two mean a whole lot more. Having a gun on you that goes bang is good. KNOWING you can hit what you're aiming at is infinitely better; and I would argue should be a personal (not legal) requirement for carry. If you can't hit your target your carry is almost worthless.

Everything else is just bells and whistles. Yes, capacity and caliber matter to some extent, but the above three things are the most important.

The special/collectible argument is absolutely and laughably pointless. The likelihood of using your carry to defend yourself is incredibly low to begin with. If you DO have to use it to defend yourself then you want to be using the best gun for _you_ and if it happens to be special/collectible then so be it. You have bigger problems now than your gun sitting in evidence anyway.

I carry either a Sig P238, or a Beretta PX4Storm Compact Carry (comes with all the Langdon mods straight from the factory).
If I'm boymode the P238 sits at my appendix in my waistband in a sticky holster. It's an easy draw, I shoot it well at self defense ranges, it has held up to my body sweat/oils/etc. I keep it loaded with Underwood screwdrivers and a spare magazine in a pocket.
If it's girlmode, it's the PX4 in the purse. It's the only thing in that pocket. It's an open pocket with a magnetic clasp so it's an easy draw.'

because back then it seemed like the only real option for cc in 9mm that didn't have a completely atrocious trigger. I meant to replace the retarded hinged trigger shoe with something else, but never got around to it. I've put probably 4-5 thousand rounds through mine over the years and honestly the hinged trigger wasn't as big of a hindrance to me as I thought it would be when I first bought it. I'm not going to pretend online that I'm shooting clover shaped groups at 50 yards, but I can reliably shot a fist sized group mag dumping at 10ish yards, and a little smaller if I take my time on paper targets. I'd like to replace my shield because mine has the manual safety (from before they made the manual safety-less one) which I generally do not want in a handgun but-

>glock 43
I have probably 800ish rounds through mine and I genuinely shoot significantly worse groups with this than I do my shield

>glock 48
Have not shot one yet because both ranges near me do not have one to rent, and I'm afraid of just buying one in case I equally shoot worse with it like I do with the 43- not necessarily in the sense of wasting money but more in the sense of wasting time and energy, although I'm erring on the side of just buying it anyway and putting in another few cases through it to git gud with it, plus dem shield arms 15 round mags

I'm very partial to the Walter mostly because of its profile, I carried a makarov for a long time and found its weight in my hand comforting during tense situations.

The hammer snagging is an ND risk not so much a risk when firing. If the safety is on its not really an ND issue, if it's in your hand and the slide is clearing the hammer the snag risk is low enough that you'd let it.... let it slide.

Now if your slide was bulky, textured and angular you could very well have a problem with cycling. A revolver would be so bad that I'd discount them entirely, most snag issues will relate to when something is pressed against the side of your weapon, either someone trying to do you drawing it, you could be face down on the cement, could have your arm pinned to you in a car. Revolver? No Bueno.'

Your error is thinking that prioritizing attributes is an absolute all or nothing. For reliability is pretty much is but proficiency and comfort, proficiency is more important but that doesn't mean you throw comfort out the door. If that were the case, you wouldn't list both.

Let's run through this. A Ruger LCP has a terrible trigger and tiny grip. Most people can't shoot it well at all but as a tiny .380, it's the comfiest gun there is to carry. By your argument, everyone would carry the LCP over one they shoot better.
Meanwhile, the SIG p365 and Glock 48 are both larger less comfy guns to carry but generally better shooting. Their owners are more proficient with them. You are arguing that people should not carry these because they are less comfy.
Then there are guns like the CZ Shadow and SIG p226 that people tend to shoot extremely well but they are not comfy. You seem to think that others are arguing people should carry these over a smaller gun that they may not shoot quite as well. That would be idiotic. You don't disregard comfy. What you do is prioritize how important the attributes are.

1. Reliability, if you can't trust your gun it's about worthless. That also doesn't mean you're going to carry around a bolt action pistol.
2. Proficiency, if you can't get a respectable group then under stress you will be even less accurate and a liability. You won't be effective and you could be a danger.
3. Comfort, if you don't enjoy carrying the gun, you may not have it on you at all or you will and you won't be comfy.

Only an idiot would argue that these are mutually exclusive or that you completely disregard the others; seems to be your argument or are you actually so foolish as that you would take a slightly comfier gun to carry even though you know you can't shoot it well? Can you shoot any gun well? Man, it's just hard to tell with you but I'll take a 0.1" thicker gun if I'm better shot with it.'

If you're talking their striker triggers, they're okay; rather ordinary. If you're talking their hammer fired triggers, which seems to be the context, the reset is what gets me. I had a p2000 and the reset was like a mile long which makes firing it rapidly extremely difficult to do well. The Hk hammer fired triggers also all feel like shit because the internals are like a series of stacked plates sliding against each other (at least on my p30) and have a lot of gritty feel and slop to them AND HK tends to user stronger than needed springs. I've never had one fail to work and somehow, despite feeling like shit, they've shot extremely accurately for me. So, they work, just not for rapid fire. I'd give them a solid 5/10.'

If you have a double feed, I believe proper procedure is locking the slide back then pulling out the magazine and pushing the round through the mag well. With an internal slide lock/catch, this becomes trickier because there's no empty mag to engage it so you manually have to by reaching into the ejector to lock it back. Imagine clearing a malfunction like this in a shootout as opposed to just engaging an external control and releasing the mag.'

By todays standard its' a little large for capacity but otherwise a great gun. The only downside to your gun is the long trigger reset. You'll never be able to develop a good cadence to rapidly dump a mag on target when you have to let out the trigger that far between each shot. Not only that, but you can't shoot off the reset while doing it either. If you don't care about that, then hey, perfect gun.'

I have a SigP228 with a modified trigger that’s very short reset and very light and I think the difference is like milliseconds vs the HK. I am going to put this to the test next time I head to the range, I’ll bring my Glock 19, and FNS-9 as well. You piqued my curiosity, I’ll have a friend time me.

I'd like to know. What I can tell you is how I came to the opinion. For years I practiced slow fundamentals at the range until my groups were consistently very good. However, I still had problems rapid firing. If I mag dumped, either the group would open up drastically or I would walk the shots down and end the group about a foot low at 7 yards. So, I took a class, 1 on 1 with a qualified instructor.
That instructor told me to time my cadence with the front sight. I normally shoot off the reset, have for years. So, he told me to practice letting off the trigger to reset while trying to keep focus on the front sight and as soon as the front sight dropped back down into the notch, squeeze off the round and repeat. This would coordinate my timing with the cyclic rate of the handgun. So, I tried it with my p2000 and was really struggling. I complained that the reset was very long and didn't really reset crisply to the break point but rather had take up. He tried and was like, "damn". So I switched to a striker fired that I had also brought and after just a couple of magazines had it down. My groups no longer opened up as much during rapid fire and no longer dropped.
>fire
>let out just fast enough to time with front sight aligning
>recognize front sight dropping to notch
>fire
What I'm saying is that I could not do that with the p2000 because of the reset but I did love everything else about the pistol.'

the grip, which I would argue has the biggest impact on printing, is identical in all of the relevant dimensions. the thinner frame of the 43x makes it easier for me to wear tighter pants, but I don’t wear a lot of tight pants.

The comparison between the Rami and the P-01 is roughly equivalent to the comparison between the Glock 26 and the Glock 19 in terms of dimensions. Check for yourself:
https://www.handgunhero.com/compare/cz-2075-rami-vs-cz-p-01

Like I said, the P-01 has a rail and the Rami does not. A home defense gun absolutely must have a rail in my opinion, because you don’t want to be taking shots in the dark nor have to fumble with a flashlight in the event that you experience a malfunction or something else for which you need a free hand. The Rami also only has a 3” barrel (which I think is fine for 9mm, but some people take the position that a longer barrel is needed for sufficient velocity).'

I guess… but it’s just a light attached to the outside of your pistol. It’s not a sight or an integral component inside the gun; even if the light malfunctions, you will be no worse off than if you had not installed the light at all anyway. Might as well have one on a home defense gun. Someone planning a home invasion could disable your house’s lights. Or you could face looters in a Hurricane Katrina-esque situation where there’s no electricity to be had in your area. Plenty of plausible scenarios involve a lack of reliable ambient lighting, and I don’t want to be dicking around with my phone or a flashlight in my left hand while I try to aim with my right. Then again, low-light scenarios are possible outside the home as well, and I don’t carry a pistol with a light on me, so to a degree I agree with your point that not every “what if” is worth obsessing about.'
