The folded foregrip is the handguard, its fine. Sure you wouldn't c-clamp it in the same way you wouldn't with an AK gas block, but that's entirely a skill issue; a mistake you don't need to make and wont make twice. You hold the bottom of the folded foregrip like a handstop, its comfy and puts your hand halfway down the barrel from the gas block. IRL the Australian SASR rejected using the AUG/F88 in favour of the M4 primarily because in swim-assaults the guide-rods on the bolt-carrier get filled with water and don't drain without completely disassembling the rifle.
