For sure get an lpvo. Length of pull is ok with the magpul stock, but don't bother with the hera arms rail that I have in the pic. Eye relief is non-existent unless you go iron sight/non-magnified route, which doesn't make sense for a 20" heavy barrel 5.56. I also had to get an extra picatinny slot milled in for my cantilever, and then the whole thing loosened off after 10-20 rounds so it's probably not meant for the weight of a scope. I've since put the original SL8-5 top rail back on, which is fairly comfy and surprisingly rigid.';

Also, I signed up for a job that was supposed to set me up in some of the best innawoods shooting territory on the planet, High Level, to be able to while away my free time after work and on the weekends blasting steel. Now it turns out the housing they're providing me explicitly prohibits firearms, so I'm going to have to take the best four months of the year off from shooting. Oh fuck, never mind. You put and Eotech, FTS magnifier, laser, and full length pic rail on a .45-70. Bro, it's a 200 yard gun, MAYBE 250 if you practice with it religiously and use high quality factory or handloaded ammunition.

I would recommend cutting back your optics and rail to a standard weaver rail, and then mounting your choice of rugged and low profile optic, maybe a high end micro red dot for pistols. If you really want to wring some extra range out of it, get a 3x prism sight, and mount the micro dot on a 45 degree mount. Otherwise, get an LPVO, the great grand-daddies of the tactical scopes were old low magnification scopes like the one on my old 336 made for hunting in timber that occasionally gave way to clearings. Both of these options will fit on the standard receiver top pic rail.

I have a Marlin 1894 in .357 magnum that I used as a practice rifle and gopher chunker as a teenager, and until very recently I had a Marlin 336 in .30-30 (see my previous post for picture) that I used as my primary deer rifle. I took the optic off the 336 and stuck it on my dad's old bolt action, and sold the 336 to a close friend of mine who is just getting into guns and really wanted a vintage deer rifle.

The .357 paired up nicely with my first restricted firearm, a S&W Model 19, and I still use the two of them for certain friendly shooting competitions that allow lever guns. I stuck a receiver mounted Skinner Express aperture sight on it and it's dead accurate out to 100 yards.';
