Theoretically underlever is better if the rear sight is not on the barrel because the locking mechanism may distort the sights in that case. In reality with a new or a good break barrel there is no difference. An old break barrel with a loosened hinge point may have distorted sights but if that is the case there is probably air escaping as well: thighten that nut and continue shooting.
Having said that: break barrels are not that expensive, get a good one with a decent hinge and a good barrel (well crowned etc.) and have fun. If you like a challenge: look up hunter field target'

>what do you mean by comb height?
Comb height is the height of the top of the stock (in this case) relative to the sights or scope. If your comb (top of the stock) is too low, you have to move your head further up to compensate rather than getting a proper cheekweld. When you have to chinweld a rifle that has no iron sights and no capability to install iron sights and comes stock with a scope that the stock is way too low to get a proper cheekweld, it really sucks to shoot and can even cause accuracy issues, for example, like parallax error where you moving your head moves the reticle on the target. Basically means if you don't have your head perfectly centered (or in the same spot at the very least) it can make you think you're aiming on the target while you're really aiming, say, 1" low, which is exaggerated since you don't have a nice spot for your cheek to rest and your cheek is more or less "hinged" at your jawline. It sounds autistic but for hunting I'd rather a better cheekweld than a shitty one. There's a fix involving tape and rags but it shouldn't have been that way in the first place for the reasons explained above.
>it is I just double checked
That's good because some air rifles can cause issues even with good scopes; they recoil in reverse of a regular firearm, or at least in both directions, because of the piston.
>Nah, fuck that. Those fuckers are dirty.
If they're suburban or otherwise in your house, fair; like those that I mentioned below.
>And they go stiff in about an hour.
That's called Rigor Mortis which happens to every animal which can easily be solved by waiting two hours or so to skin them (work their legs around to loosen them up) and gutting them ASAP to prevent spoilage.
>I don't want to catch something. I'll just buy my meat.

T B H I'm not sure about the ballistics. I just want to have a clean kill. And an air handgun seems like a poor choice for precision as well. Your targets are going to be 25-50 yards away and very small, so you will need a scope to hunt squirrels and rats.'

NTA but I'd rather have speed to help to deal with drop with heavier .22 cal pellets. And let's do some quick math with my favorite pellets; we'll assume 14.3gr Crosman Hollowpoint .22 cal. With 700 feet per second, you're getting 15.5 foot pounds of power which is great power for squirrels and quite deadly. I wouldn't go much lower, maybe 6-7 foot pounds with .22, though you can hunt them up close down to ~4 with .177 but I don't really recommend it unless you're a good shot and know what you're doing and when not to take a shot. With 400fps in .22 cal, you're getting only 5 foot pounds! That's pretty bad and the drop is going to be nuts. That's a little more power than a Daisy 880 makes. I really only shot within 35yds with .177 (Daisy 880, Crosman 760, other pumps) and that was 7.9gr at about 500fps(?). I have a 1377 that has a little more power/speed and the drop at 50yds is like 13" at least, zeroed for ~25ft.

>What exactly do I look for when addressing this problem. I only understand it when I'm looking down the rifle. Do I want higher scope rings to solve it?
If anything, lower scope rings if possible (if your scope will still be able to fit and not touch the rifle anywhere). You can't really remove that big scope riser rail Gamo put on the Swarms to deal with the bad (too low) comb height as it's a "RRR (Recoil Reducing Rail): Developed to subdue the taxing stresses placed on your scope from the intense recoil of air guns and high-powered rifles" which I assume means it's unwise to remove...maybe unless you have a good air rifle rated scope. How it's been solved before is by putting screws in the stock and putting an adjustable cheek riser on it (see any of these made of kydex with the knobs to tighten them xxxxx ) or simply by using sponge, rags, paper towels, shirts, burlap, or whatever you can think of to form an improvised cheek riser and wrap it in medical tape, athletic tape, electrical tape, or whatever other semi-flexible and stretchy tape you can think of that would be appropriate. It looks like hell but it's a lot less permanent and can be done to plastic stocks and reversed without a single mark remaining in case it needs to go back for warranty work or a return. Even the US military has, at times, done it. Most generic close up Wikipedia image I could pull from Google.'

YW; I always like real world examples and numbers. I have a tiny amount of air rifle data to go off of but at least it's something. When I get a chronograph I think I'm going to start making whole spreadsheets to see what kind of real world power and speed these air rifles get rather than remembering data from several forum posts with potentially modern or vintage air rifles with no clarification. I was really surprised to see that 400fps .22 cal would barely make more power than a Daisy 880! That's like 0.5-1 foot pound more! Might be what my Gamo mod 68 .22 makes and those pellets drop like a rock, almost red ryder-tier! But that thing needs some work so maybe it's even slower.'

Depends on how much air the gun holds and max pressure. If up to 3000 psi or so a hand pump gets something like a marauder done in 5 or 6 minutes or so IME, my pp700 I can fill in probably under 2.5 minutes, both fill to 3000 psi, but have different sized air tubes. Tubes that hold less air are generally much easier to hand pump. Your results will vary gun to gun. I don't think it's bad at all hand pumping for a long time now but am reasonably in shape. I don't ever plan on buying a compressor unless I get guns that fill to higher pressures, they're nice but I just like to keep it simple.'

I got the pump and gun for about $175, pretty nice shooter for what you get. Decent power and very lightweight, you get closer to 30-35 shots. Open sights are really all I care to shoot lately though I do have some with steel breeches and scopes. That said, I have x5 362s and x2 3622s and if I could only have one, Id pick the standard pumper. Just seems more capable if you were out in the field or didn't have a hand pump with you. But I think it's an amazing platform and pump guns are so nice.

personally i'm already very invested in PCPs and I've got two tanks (one 2L and other 9L) and a Coltri compressor, sure all in it was like $4000 but it's like having your own powder factory for your muzzle-loader that only uses electricity, I wanna invest on casting equipment now for making my own slugs.'

They make some real junk, or at least used to, IIRC. They're probably capable of quality but they make so much super cheap stuff, or used to, that I really don't want to recommend them. Everything has this weird tacticool futuristic plastic crap look that seems to try to distract from plastic quality or whatever. Also is that rail just kind of molded into a piece of plastic that's press fit around the receiver? Man not only are those slots going to be a nightmare to clean and oil (blued steel underneath) but water is going to get between the plastic and steel and I would not trust a rail to hold zero which seems to have little to no solid attachment to the receiver but that's just me.

Sort of, a pcp hand pump isn't as bad as trying to use a bike pump. You'd survive, I get nearly 200 shots on a fill anyway though I have a pretty weak 22 cal pcp as regs here are silly. If you are near any paintball or airsoft stores they might be willing to fill it.
Some pcp guns can't unscrew the bottle without air immediately rushing out, meaning they would need to fill it with the gun still attached. Don't think most would care but if that was the case, put that shit on safe unlock the bolt etc. when asking them to fill it as airsoft/paintball people usually don't know muzzle or trigger discipline lol
Although some pcp guns can detach the bottle with no issues and an airsoft store should be able to fill it for like $5 or less no issues'

Umarex is not a manufacturer. They are a licensing and branding company, for pellet guns, bb guns, and airsoft. Umarex has the rights to a lot of trade marks for replicas, so their usual shtick is taking guns from a different OEM and putting beretta/Colt/FN whatever trademarks on it. Even for their unbranded guns, I believe they are still not an actual OEM and just rebrand. This means some Umarex guns are fine and some are trash, gotta figure out the real OEM.'

Gamo has ALWAYS been shit. Their main "good rifle" is the Swarm itself for its unique loading feed and is the main line of defence I always hear from people who say "oh Gamo is not that bad anymore anon". But ignoring fact that even the Swarm's quality is spotty in some areas, Gamo has had the reputation of having shitty build quality when compared to other manufactures within the low price market for so long it is a trope within airgun scenes that Gamo is shit.

IDK; Gamo has always been lower end, sure, but back in ~1980, Gamo's Mod 68 was a decent alternative to the more expensive British break barrels, or so I hear. Also good bluing but the plastic "wood" panels on the stock and the front sight blade leave something to be desired (durability). Hefty and solid as a fucking rock though. That ~2010 era was rough for Gamo. I'm hoping they're kind of pulling out of that.
>Just by knowing that small fact you can buy their airguns (they will all say El Gamo on them) with confidence, knowing that in their day both the late Robert Law of the now-defunct Air Rifle Headquarters and Robert Beeman who founded Beeman Precision Airguns, thought they were a quality European brand at an affordable price. look at Olympic 10m pistol/rifle shooters, they don't aim for a whole lot, they take like 3-5 sec to aim, and if they don't shoot, they lower the gun, rest and then aim again. There's a certain cadence on bringing up your gun, a sort of up and down oscillation that allows you to aim without shaking, once you reach the still position, you start shaking. idk there's probably instructional videos from Olympic shooters on it, but it's something I've been able to develop intuitively thru the years.

Among PRS/NRL22 Air Rifle class competitors, like 90% of them use FX rifles, they're a pretty big deal in the "high-end" sphere, the FX DRS (not DMS, my mistake) is their new "mid-end" offering. Could be fatigue in your arms, nerves/mental block/frustration, distraction. As another commenter said Olympic shooters are surprisingly quick and hold in such a way that their bones are basically holding the rifle, otherwise your arms will start to micro shake too quickly. The more you're focusing on your sight might also be frustrating you a bit, not raging of course, but when you get properly aligned and then your sight wanders again, you mentally tunnel vision on aligning that sight and focus on trigger pull goes out the window.

I have the same problem with my breath and noticing the wind. The longer I'm stuck trying to align my sight the more likely I am to shoot while inhaling or during a wind gust because I'm oblivious. There is a true skill to knowing when to just take the shot in a competition setting because you know waiting any longer will be detrimental. You also see this in trap and skeet because the target is getting further the longer you wait, good shooters know when to take a shot with subpar aim because waiting longer to align properly will actually make it worse

The cheapest build would have been a 2240 on sale (Amazon has them for $38 on Prime day) then the tube, barrel, etc separate. A lot of the parts are cheap $1-2 which is fine if you only need a few small things, but some make you scratch your head. The 2250 was discontinued in the US around 2010 as far as I can tell, there is a custom shop 2400 but I guess it's lucky they would sell me the parts at all. I just wanted one for the collection. Another head scratcher gun is what they're billing as the current 2289 backpacker with fake carbon fiber but charging around $150. I'd reccomend a bolt or lever pcp, preferably used so can stay between 150-300. It'll be much easier on the budget than a semi and you can still have a magazine and decent rate of fire and power. If budget isn't a big deal could check out stuff like aea sf, marauder semi, hatsan semis, huben, and other options. There's alot more choices imo in bolts/levers in a more affordable price range that will do what you need. I reccomend the pcp over co2, easier to keep always ready and very consistent shots, high power. Depending on your needs there may be some bolt pcps for as little as 170$ that may fit the bill for you. As always with ANY airgun, please read other user reviews of any given model on air gun forums, store reviews, etc.'

I tried it with .22 lead round ball as it's a smoothe bore and those did best. Also shot jsb 18 Grain domes, jts wadcutters, and jsb hades. It did pretty well for just a front bead sight shooting targets at 10 and 15 yards... but I bought it to use the meme shot shells bc I saw some ytuber taking rabbits with it from 5-10 yards. The shot shells are wildly inconsistent. Sometimes you will get a decent 8" spread at 10 yards, but usually it's just a uneven spray that's very inconsistent. Fps ranged from 490-605 shooting the shot shells. Actual pellets got atleast 700 - 750 typically. Might be fun to shoot water balloon skeet or something with the shotshells but pretty useless for me, just bought as a 5-10 yard collard/squirrel gun intending to only use shot shells with it and it didn't get it done, shooting pellets from the adapter Is ok but I have other .22 air guns that will just always shoot better, so I took the refund. I didn't try reloading any shells. if the factory ones were that bad I just didn't want to bother. They have 19-25 #9 shot in them. Anything I shot just carried on like it didn't get shot whatsoever. after a few attempts I decided it's not capable of consistent clean kills, even on a squirrel. I'm sure with some luck on the spread I'd be successful eventually but that sort of thing doesn't sit well with me. Gimmick imo, but had to try it.

Bit too long, I would invest in a compressor for guns that fill to 4500. Filling up to 3000 isn't bad imo with a hand pump but the higher the pressure the more of a chore hand pumping is.'

User reviews state shells are good to 30-40 yards max, many users report much inaccuracy with slug/arrows, and it only gets 5 shots a air fill. For 800$ my opinion is not worth a shit. Ideally 15 foot pounds of power with either caliber; speed is highly variable depending on the weight of pellet you use and a lot of manufacturers use that to lie to your face. Pyramyd Air often has the foot pounds of power listing in their bulletpoints on air rifle listings as they test them for speed in-house and calculate the power through that. Though I lean towards .22 these days I've used both. You can go lower but that depends on a lot of things and I'd rather just recommend the lowest that's "easy" to shoot with. While I disagree with anon above about the Gamo, mine is a Gen 2 and not a "magnum" so maybe something happened between the generations. I like Crosman hollow point domed pellets. You can go fancier but IIRC they tend to need 15+ foot pounds to deform when you get into the crazier looking ones so even the domed hollowpoints don't do much in the way of mushrooming.

However, you can go for 7 foot pounds of power and still have a clean shot through a squirrel with a 1322 carbine and a steel breech kit for an additional $35 and PA will install it for you. Then all you need is a scope. I know the 1322 will go through as my 1377 went clean through on a test (read: already shot and stone dead) squirrel side-on, shot in chest.'

Crosman makes a million, Ruger has the Airhawk line some of which are compatible with BBs, and there's a gorillion Not-Airsoft licensed CO2 guns

>At least the lead pellets just flatten and lose most of their power instead of wrecking your shit.
I can speak from experience that pellets still bounce a fuckton if you hit anything hard. Just off a piece of plywood at ~20m, I took a ricochet to the forehead out of a Crosman something-or-other. It hurt enough that I stopped shooting for the day and resolved to pick up some safety glasses for next time.

Huh, I've never had a pellet bounce back. Yeah I've shot some steel that made them bounce up and land near me but never straight back like a BB at any considerable velocity. I took a BB and quickly switched to pellets and stopped shooting wood lol. Thank god my eyes suck because that means I always have some sort of protection for my eyes, even if it's not ideal.
>get the pink daisy btw it's the siccest
Lol. I have a normal Daisy and it's actually pretty okay for shooting lanternflies. I think I need more power than a Red Ryder though. A super short harmonica mag fed 760 might do the trick with flat nosed Crosman pellets (kinda like pic related) but man is it hard to find an air rifle with a mildly fucked up barrel to chop. And then I have to figure out the front sight situation again. I'm thinking something slick like this. Yes I know the 1377 exists but I'm hoping for a $5 beater here and the mag options for the 13xx are poor and expensive. Needs to be a sit-by-the-door and dump a handful of harmonica mags in your pocket type solution. I'd also take a Bug-A-Salt but again, $5 solution. Maybe I could do lead BBs with a beater 760 I have laying around (I have one in parts) but then I have to buy yet another type of pellet...'

I hunt with springers and some pumpers on smaller game and in that time with springers have learned the exact key spot or darn close to bring down the game. It's not just hitting the game in the head but hitting it in a small area that will do the most damage to the brain. >Make fun of me as much as you want, but how brutal is killing a squirrel/rabbit/bird if your initial shot leaves them writhing?
It's pretty brutal when you have to chase them down and put another kill shot in them. But it awakens the hunter in you when you are doing it. Then you just get used to it and put an extra in the off switch and its over.>>61625374
>11-ish ftlb with a 22 cal
It's not ideal since I recommend 700-900+ fps
but you gotta run what will be allowed so its enough to murk a squirrel at least.
>pic related with a 15 grain pellet
You can play with the numbers at https://www.pyramydair.com/widgets/
>not sure I could handle looking them in the eye and breaking their neck or however its done.
that's not how it's done, you put a shot in the back of their heads. also known as the off switch. you want to sever the brain stem basically. sorry I had to write it out, i know that's upsetting to some people.
>Can a sensitive person get past it
It's not recommended for you, so I would recommend a professional trapper. But if you want to go the frugal way than do it yourself and grow a thicker skin. These are nuisance animals that damage land and property causing untold expenses and medical bills, you are doing a service to your neighborhood taking them out. Also if squirrels didn't have fluffy looking tails they would look like what they really are, rats. Animal Class: Rodentia. And all the stuff that comes with that type of animal, not excluding them being black plague carriers and ever growing teeth so they need to chew on something hard, like wires and structural building materials.

tl;dr: Fuck rodents you are doing a good thing'

Practice practice practice, get good at accuracy, learn what your max distance is for field accuracy (not from a bench with a rest, etc), and don't shoot further than that until you improve to have a new max distance. Your max distance may be something super short like 30 feet at first but it will get to be longer in time; the shorter the distance the easier it is to catch up with game and watch where it falls whether it did die in one shot or not as well. You will get used to shooting game but also you'll learn when to and not to take a shot. The most important thing you can do is learn where the vitals are on an animal and how to access them from various angles and be able to visualize where to shoot to access them. That takes a lot of time and if you just aren't comfortable with a shot then don't take it! Just about tied with that is your accuracy; doesn't matter if you can shoot accurately if you don't hit vitals and doesn't matter if you know where vitals are if you can't hit them. Doesn't matter if you have to make some "realistic" targets for small game like they do for deer (see: foam deer vitals targets for bows) to practice and see what looks good, whatever works.

Pic related shows where the heart is roughly on squirrels off the top of my head. The stomach is way further forward in the chest than you'd ever think so I tend to hug the arm bone. I mostly hunt with .22lr these days so I can punch right through an arm bone and give up the meat from the upper portion of the arm but you'd probably have to try to sneak by it due to the lower power. Whether you're good or not I also highly suggest some form of shooting sticks. Yes they can be awkward but they give you a great amount of stability.'

Also I'm assuming being sub 12 foot pound you're in the UK. Here's also a good side on shot placement for grey squirrels, though I'd probably send it further back towards the ear by about 3mm or so. Base of the ear is the common saying. Also watch a lot of this guy and mentally note shot placement; he's in the same boat as you with sub 12 foot pound air rifles and shows shots good and bad:

They're prone to it sure but IIRC I've seen some bad shots on rabbits on YT where they just ran off. Still gotta get a solid vitals hit. If they had a heart attack anytime they got smacked out of nowhere they'd never escape a close call with a predator.'

Also get a scope! I know I'm telling you to maybe double or triple what you spend on an air rifle here but get a scope. If it's a break barrel, then you're going to have to get one that can stand reverse recoil/whiplash and is made for it. If you have a pump, then not so much. Don't use the plastic scopes and don't use the $17 4x15 that Tasco makes; trust me. Not worth the inaccuracy and random loss of zero from mild bumps. Hard enough to learn to repeatedly shoot well on every shot with good equipment. The bug buster used to be cheap but damn is it up there now.'

I wouldn't recommend headshots for a beginner. Just stick to CM (center mass). Worst case scenario they run up a tree in their last 5 seconds on this earth and die in a crock of it. If that happens just wait until something comes and tries to eat it and throw it away when it falls. Had that happen a few days ago. It's just that at that range the target (the squirrel's brains are so freaking small and if you miss you are still just maiming. At least with the vitals shot it will take them down if you don't hit dead center mass. ymmv if you have a PCP and can consistently land head shots then go for it. But something with less around 12 FPE it seems like a bad time waiting to happen trying to land them.'

Actually I agree with you there. Headshots can be rather unforgiving. There's a surprising amount of things up there that really don't do much and pellets will just zoom through leaving little damage; that's why I tend towards lung shots these days despite starting as a headshot guy myself no matter how much REEEEEing I get from the "muh headshot is the only way" crowd. .22LR can also be brutal on headshots and man sometimes I just want to use the squirrel for some taxidermy and not have a massive gaping hole in the head on both sides lol. Something around 10-12FPE (not a Daisy 880) would probably work for headshots especially in .22 but man that anon's speed/FPE test has me questioning things. But yeah lung shots are way more forgiving and have a much bigger vital area and that's why I shoot squirrels in the chest with .22LR these days. Field accuracy with adrenaline, wind, an animal that might move at any moment, etc. =/= bench accuracy shooting paper at all.'

That said I've seen plenty of culling videos with headshots only. But that's with a super expensive set up. So 1000+ usd spent on a pest control gun. And that's just the gun. Not a scope and a compressor, so you can spend 3k+ easily on something that you can spend 300usd altogether on something with the same ending result. 130 on a decent scope. 20 bucks in ammo and another 150 on the gun. And you got a cost efficient squirrel culling set up. At 1/10 the cost of a head shot machine setup.'

Yeah you don't know how many times I've thought about getting a PCP airgun but man for $1k I have a silenced 10/22 lol. I want to put together a Benjamin Marauder pistol carbine but I keep asking myself wtf I'm going to do with it. Between the time and cost for hunting headshots only I ended up figuring at the very least a bad heart shot is better than a bad headshot. Bad headshot makes some part of the brain not work well but nothing really ends up killing it unless a predator gets it or it gets a brain infection. Bad heart shot, I probably hit the lung somewhere and it dies within a day. Gut shots can still happen though which is why I trend towards the neck these days as well as the stomach being stupidly high into the chest on squirrels. They're usually pretty full too; I've never seen a squirrel stomach below ~1" round. Usually they're ~2" round. Bad chest shots can also end up in the throat if you get a weird "jump" before the shot which IIRC I've had take a squirrel down surprisingly fast due to blood loss through an artery. If you're high on a shot or again, the animal moves as the shot is being taken, at least with .22LR, it can also hit the spine resulting in a pretty much instant death/immobilization. For that you want as high as possible too. Sometimes when you shoot them straight on from the front of the chest you end up hitting the spine as well.

>>61627383
Yep. I have some old Japan Tascos on vintage .22s but the new stuff is junk. I used to use vintage Weaver, Bushnell, etc. on air rifles. Still do, kinda. Just have to keep the vintage stuff to mostly pumps so they don't get broken from break barrel "springers". Even the old 4x15 Tascos are kinda out of focus though (and I don't mean that the focus adjust is off, they're just not as clear as modern glass by any means probably partly due to age).'

Yep and the heart/lungs is a bigger target in general with a larger area surrounding it that isn't ideal, but still may let you retrieve your game after it flops over in 5 seconds. The head has a lot of really non-ideal spots that don't do much of anything at pellet rifle velocities. Head can easily be obscured or give bad angles for a shot but the heart/lungs are often able to be reached from most angles, even below, even if at an awkward angle. Also, with air rifles especially you might not be able to just see the underside of a squirrel's head (throat/jaw), for instance, and shoot through to the brain, depending on angle. I've never tried it with either but if I had that shot with a .22LR I might take it. Air rifle I might hesitate since I may end up hitting the jaw and losing velocity or even just hitting the front of the brain. .22LR tends to bring bone with it and make a mess of whatever bones you hit ending up with a pinky sized wound channel (when hitting bone) and damaged tissue surrounding it. Probably a .25 cal hole when you don't hit bone but still very damaged tissue surrounding it; I've seen bruised muscle up to about a 1/2" diameter from chest shots in .22lr. Thinking back to hunting with .177 I don't think there was much bruising at all. I know it's a bit of a tired and overused phrase by now but it's literally a "poking holes in game" vs "blowing holes through game". A lot of the damage that headshots cause with lower power (~6-8 FPE) pellet rifles are just from the bone the pellet goes through being thrown very slightly off the course of the pellet causing an additional wound channel. Meanwhile .22LR does that thing you see that happens to watermelons shot with .223 in YT videos. I can't think of the video I saw it in recently, but the damaged meat around the wound channel is very similar to what happens to watermelon; the tissue in the wound channel is soft and shredded unlike the "firm" undamaged tissue.'

I have like ~30-35 ft.lb of energy in a .22 inch size hole. I have no trouble reaching the brainstem at any angle with that much power. Even if up the spine from the tail to the heart. From what I've seen in testing with ballistic gel there is around 8+ inches of penetration. I've also taken that type of shot and had a successful takedown.
>the rest of the post about analyzing wound channels
I don't examine them enough to confirm or deny. But I've seen exit wounds around 50% bigger then the caliber used with the Red Fires. Also it makes sense about the .177 vs .22 and the energy transfer into the target vs going through it. I think the type of pellet plays a big role in this type of performance. I still swear by my Gamo Red fires in this case.'

I actually have that exact target I picked up at a gun show! It's done very nicely in watercolor by Doug Pifer. Reminds me a lot of the style of Ned Smith (see: PA Game commission animal posters). He also did one for a rabbit and a groundhog. They're NRA/National Target posters. Also yes you're right about not having problems with 30-35 foot pounds but I was more talking having a third of that power if not 8-10.

The pellet matters a lot when you start getting into 20-30 foot pound territory. Ted's Holdover (Ted Bier) uses JSB Hades as they expand pretty well. I know the AirArmsSA guy uses some special pellets too but he changes quite a lot because he's really into the new pellets and barrel tech. IIRC Squirrel Hunter uses H&N Barracuda (as did Ted?) but also Predator Polymag which are very similar to your Gamo Red Fire and do quite a bit of damage when they expand. If I had that power I'd probably be using them too. I should pick a tin of them up and see what 15 ft lbs can do in gel.

I'll have to see what I have around; if I get around to that I'll post it in an airgun thread. I know I had some gelatin in a bulk plastic container that I think didn't get very stiff when you mixed it up no matter how much you added. I know I have some Knox somewhere and I know I just saw a box of packets somewhere but it's been a while since I've mixed some up. No chronograph so I'd do some test shots with a Red Ryder to show roughly what kind of gelatin % I get via penetration depth of a semi-standard BB gun. I think I'd mostly be worried about overpenetration of the block and losing the pellet. My Gamo Swarm has some power behind it, I think.

>>61628180

Nice another Gamo Swarm user. You really should pick up a tin of the red fires though especially since they will run better in your gun from what I've seen. I have the magnum style, and if it wasn't for the gen3 version that I have I would 100% recommend it. It's accurate and powerful but the reload system malfunctions often and has a partial disassembly issue when it wants to just fall apart cocking it. Super annoying but still useable if reassembled and then checking to see if it loaded a pellet. Also gen3 doesn't have the manual sights. Not that I would use them but that's another thing when considering gen2 vs gen3.

And just got another squirrel after 3 days of none spotted. The dog was happy to get another, even if it was small.

The recommended lower limit for a hunting airgun is one that produces 12 foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle. That equates to a .177-caliber pellet gun shooting a lead pellet weighing 7.9 grains at 827 f.p.s. at the muzzle or a .22-caliber air gun shooting a 14.3-grain pellet at 615 f.p.s. at the muzzle. Other pellet weights will obviously produce different amounts of energy at the same velocities, and you can use Pyramyd Air's handy energy calculator to determine the velocity of your airgun.'

As a pistol, probably works good as is but fun to mod and see what works. The stock has a short LOP for an adult but it does work if you can tuck in close. Definitely a good piece of kit to have, little known secret is that if you call Crosman parts in the US the stock is only $5 (doesn’t include shipping) so I ordered 4 last time to... stock up.

The 1399 stock is pretty nice. I didn't like how it handled as a pistol but then again I upgraded to steel breech the same time I got the stock. Could also be the red dot if it's a cheaper model. It's unfortunate they don't make the 1399 stock in brown but you can get it pretty close with Rustoleum (pic related). I just used Plastidip (spray can), let that dry, and then used Rustoleum the next day but I don't remember the color. IIRC mine is supposed to have a shim in it to tighten the stock up and prevent wobble; I think it's just a piece of the soft side of velcro in the bottom touching the base of the pistol grip.

What in the fuck. I'm going to have to order like two for a future 1322 and maybe a marauder lol. Mine was not that cheap. Is the steel breech kit cheaper from them too?'

Unfortunately they won’t sell the breech or Pellgun oil through the parts department any more. (Though you can get it 20% off with free shipping and no tax on their website using a coupon)

they do though. every gun manufactuer licenses a CO2 model in its image. not even airsoft. their manuals have big DO NOT USE IN AIRSOFT labels in them.

for a 65 dollar gun with plastic I think 35 for the upgrade is reasonable. It's still around 100.

>>61639470
true but I think its more about a structural integrity issue not a possible mount surface. Not that it's gonna kill you if it explodes anyways...but fuck its only 35 extra for the piece of mind and it potentially lasting longer. Seems worth it to me.'

Like the old Mauser C96 stock? That might work but I’m sure it would be tricky. Good luck though cause that’s an amazing idea. So good, Crosman might put their R&D team on it, lol
