St. Peter's Basilica is humble outside, at least as far as Roman buildings go it looks little different from other places in the city. It doesn't have flashy colors or even glittering fixtures on the outside. You wouldn't likely know what it is based on it's outside appearance. Inside though, that is where its majesty is held. And yet, attending Mass or confession there is no more exalted than doing so in any other church. This is the same religion where the current Pope has chosen to live in a normal apartment nearby rather than the traditional Papal one, as he says it's too large for him.
