Aussie here. Basically we just filled our webbing pouches up with link rounds and stopped when we were carrying so much shit we couldn’t move.
First deployment I did was in Afghan 2008 and I carried the Minimi (same as a SAW) and I used to carry 800 rounds in my webbing with 50 rounds on the gun and another 200-400 rounds in a daypack.
Second deployment I had the MAG58 for a bit and I used to carry 600 rounds in my webbing with 50 on the gun and another 1000 in my pack because I was in a specialised section. I had a Maximi for a bit on that deployment too which is just a 7.62 Minimi and I carried the same amount of rounds as I did as my first trip.';

'I really want a belt fed. I've used a 249 before, and fell in love with it. Unfortunately the civi market for belt feds is barren and expensive. Best/cheapest options are 6k minimum for something like a mcr or m53.
