based, I also started going on some fitness hikes in preparation for when the snow will melt higher up. There's a 10km loop I can start from my home that quickly ascends 600m to this peaceful little trail that barely anybody goes to. The whole thing is short enough that I can just do it whenever I have a couple of hours of free time, but some parts are really steep so it's still a good training for my legs';

I usually gain around 700m/1km, over 5/10km distance, that's on my day hikes, I usually go to the feet of a small mountain, walk up to the ridge, then walk along the ridge until it's finished and come back, usually the part where I get up to the ridge is off trail, and also when I come back down, so it's difficult to get there due to very steep inclination and vegetation/rocks/vertical walls/mud getting in the way, but it gives a good appreciation of how it is to traverse terrain, so now when I look at a map.i know how it would actually be to move there';

I tried taking the Blue Ridge Parkway northbound near Boone and it was really pretty at first but then there was a road closure and turns out the section of BRP from NC/VA border to Roanoke kinda sucks and barely has any views but not gonna do that again!

On my list is Elk Knob State Park seems like a neat view and maybe I'll be back in time for the rhododendron bloom. It was pretty cold and windy while I was there, I would like to come back in warmer weather. I've got more pictures I'm just a bit lazy in posting them.

I've never jumped from a waterfall. I'll swim in the bottom pool if the water is calm, but that water was aggressive. Too bad the water levels are too low now for waterfall enjoyment and there's little rain on the way,.

I visited this old courthouse near Jefferson, NC and got a really wonderful blue vintage old glass bowl for only 12 dollars at the gift shop. And a wood bowl as well.

I learned an important lesson about not trying to access 5000 ft + high country outside the may-early oct window';

I used to ride my dual sport up and down the Parkway. As a punk ass early 20 year old I didn't know how good I had it in that area as far as out stuff goes.

Check out Grandfather Mountain, it's a little touristy but worth it. Same for Mount Mitchell which is the highest peak in the eastern US.

A part of me really wants to move back to the area but my next move will be my last move since i'm getting older and have a family now. After being on the west coast with all the land you can fuck around on the east coast seems so...small.';

And I'm pretty sure you can see Mt Rogers from where these pictures were taken from, Big Pinnacle up at Grayson Highlands north of Roan Highlands. I will certainly revisit Roan Highlands in warmer weather.
