I really like things that can easily break down or fold up and can be easily carried with a standard backpack setup.

i made a hobo stove out of an old can by punching holes in it and fitting two halves of it together into a little puck. An australian 1 dollar coin works just as good as a 1980s penny like what Americans have to use to seal in the fuel.
It is a bit hectic to use, it shot up flames like 2 ft into the air at one point but then simmered down and I could put my cook pot on the frame over it. It lasts a good while too, you only need a bottle of metho instead of buying one of those butane cans every time and not knowing how much is left.'

They're alright but they suck in the wind and if you accidentally knock it over while cooking its fucking OVER.'

This is why I hesitate to use fuel based stoves, because if you have an accident, you're fucked, but with a wood burning stove, I feel like as long as you have a bucket of water nearby, you're good.'

Wood stoves are shit unless you are in an area with dry wood. Above treeline, in the desert or other arid place, recent downpour, high winds and they are way too much trouble. Not sure how you can have an accident with a gas stove, that's a liquid fuel problem. I wouldn't take a wood stove anywhere except car camping.'

You can take wood with you, either before passing the treeline or before disembarking.
if it's winter and there wasn't a lot of rain immediately prior, then the dead wood is also going to generally remain burnable the whole time.
A good wood burning stove is just a good way to heat up a tent.
I wouldn't take a wood stove for longer trips without a pulka/ahkio though.

Stowed or usable length?'
