Well, the city council here figured they should set up a mountainbike trail to attract more larpers. Didn't take long for the first accidents to happen, including one that ended with a dead dog. Then suddenly, by strange coincidence, a number of trees fell across that trail, and some wires appeared out of thin air... Long story short, that trail is "closed" now - they can't legally stop people from using it, but they have giant warning signs and roadblocks on it, and even if some cityfag makes it past those, there's still a dozen or so trees across the path at head height. And trees like those have started to appear on all the trails leading away from the parking spots in the area, forcing those mountain bikers to either go cross-country (which is hard, considering how steep our mountains are) or get of their bikes every few hundred meters to haul it past another obstacle.
And as an added benefit, it also keeps out any "hikers" who're afraid to climb over a couple trees.'

Nta, I think the dog's ability to detect things in humans comes from two places 1. Instinctual tendencies developed by long periods of time operating as social animals with other canines and 2. A modest period of being genetically modified as human companion animals. I think No. 1 is most of it though- the human modification was really more to pick out the animals that had tendencies that did not clash with human cohabitation.

Anyways, what you'd be looking for is an animal that is able to detect cues on whether a person is "in" or "out" from a pack perspective, and I think they are pretty decent with detecting aggressive human postures etc.

Most of the time we say a dog is able to "know" if a person is "bad," I think it has more to do with the dog picking up on cues toeard that person from the humans in it's group. While not being "evil detectors" it's still a fairly complex and impressive trait for an animal to have though.

Having said that I have seen some fairly uncanny responses from dogs to certain types of people over the years.'

I would argue an instinctual animal is incapable of being innocent inso far as it is completely incapable of the complex thoughts which manifest in consciously making a decision which violates a moral imperative. Or rather, how can you be innocent if you don't have the capacity for evil.

An animal motivated by instinct is opersting on a hardwired impulse taught to it by the brutality and perfection of the natural world. I suppose they are innocent to the extent that they have no capability to commit evil. It's simple mind is not clouded by by complex notions other than basic urges desires and instincts. Humans on the other hand are truly sentient, have complex motivations, emotional responses, self reflection, and are imbued with an understanding of moral imperatives. I believe this associative self reflection is what creationists refer to when they say people are made in the "image of god." It is a godlike quality like a tiny little drop of "Godness" and is referr3d to wheb the creator is called the "I Am." Some might rather envision it as the black obelisk coming down on 2001 space odyssey. This associative ability for complex thought and self reflection is what makes us capable of evil. Although next to humans, I think dogs are the closest animal to us as far as this "associative" conceptualization- like they have a very very primitive form of it. If we have a drop of "Godness" then we are to God as dogs are to us in this way.. even though I'd say the gulf between us and some creator would be far greater than between us and dogs.'

>I suppose they are innocent to the extent that they have no capability to commit evil.
That's what my thoughts on this are. People are considered innocent until proven guilty. Animals cannot be anything but innocent, since animals fundamentally cannot be guilty (of a crime or a sin for that matter). They have no concept of evil (or good for that matter), so how could they be acting in a way that is not innocent - however animalistic, basal and impulsive that behavior may be? Acting true to their nature is a boon only animals have - or burden depending on how you look at it.'
