Also it was public space before anyone gets their panties in a bunch.'

by which I mean it was in previously untouched land between two new housing developments, so not public or private land really just a garbage wash with a few little coulees.'

Best way to identify it is to lick it. Kek. But seriously, yellow-orange in rocks is usually from trace iron inclusions'

Looks like a type of limestone. I think it is quite common for them to have parts that contain oxidized iron, at least that's what my local limestone has a lot of. Some of these cracked open can reveal fossils.'

it does look a little bit like PW. Is it a spot known for it? I found a nice chunk of 50 million yr old redwood tree'

I'm not sure if that is petrified wood. It doesn't really look much like anything in my collection. I'll post mine tomorrow if I don't forget.'

Best Fools Gold Vein I ever found cracking quartz looking for vugs on a site. Everything else is usually just pinhead sized bits in aggregate. We hauled alot of material but I could not find any more quartz. But i did find some nearly purple garnet in the Wilmington complex gneiss as we hit deeper beneath the oxidized layers'

The golf ball sized garnet I have should be in there.'

I'll post mine. Providence is known, locale is Arizona (private land collection, not NPS or BLM). Yes it is petrified. I haven't bothered to polish it but you can see rings and bark and even a knot. Haven't weighed it but I would say it is about 10-15 lbs or on the lower side of that range, 8.5x11" notebook for reference.
