Are you kidding? Bret made Austin at WrestleMania 13. HBK was getting go away heat (as a babyface) as early as November 1996. Austin was massively over all through 1997 and WrestleMania 14 was his coronation. Shawn was never half the superstar that Austin was. It's like comparing Jake Roberts to Hulk Hogan. Roberts was, in the mid to late 80s, over as a star and could work in main events, but Hulk Hogan was a superstar and on an entirely different level, drawing houses anywhere in the world whenever he would appear. HBK was never anywhere near the level of Hogan, and Austin is literally the one man in history to reach that level, if only for a relatively brief period.
