the vast majority of the pay piggies want WARHAMMEEERRRRR, not wargaming. you really think the half buzz blue hair chick is going to buy up some historical wwi prussians? ask yourself: could the average Warhammer fan even handle the industry standard of scales (1/56, etc)? Just look at Fagik: The Cuckening. most players who left stopped card games entirely, they didn't move to Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, or Lorcana. Games Workshop is a 3 billion dollar company now. it's not going anywhere.'

They’re in it for the lore, aesthetics, community, etc, same as most people in any hobby - the mechanics of any hobby, which would drive exploration and migration, are a lot more niche/specialist. Not that there’s inherently something wrong with that attitude (I watch movies without much interest in cinematography or film studies, and I mostly keep to my preferred genres) but it would mean the collapse of Warhammer would lift few other boats.';

The fall of 40K would probably kill wargaming as a hobby for good. The IP would be picked up by another company, but they wouldn't make models or rules for it, just use it for shit like video games.
Although hey, with 3D printing being what it is, wargamers would probably just move over to fan rules with free models.

I think the commercial pull of GW is making minis games more popular than they otherwise would be. For starters, it's the subsidizes spaces (i.e GW stores), but it's also the hype from new releases and the way that youtubers have been groomed to amplify that hype and the way it grows to be more than the sum of its parts, people play Warhammer because other people play Warhammer, no one would ever pick up this hobby if they knew they were the only person in their town doing it.
But I also think a lot of people would just move on to other minis games, especially games that let them use their GW miniatures, and it's hard to predict the longterm outcome of that because I think that most other games are generally better than Warhammer, and other sellers of plastic are certainly better than GW. I can see a scenario where the death of GW kicks off a weird renaissance in minis combat. Hell, a lot of people would just keep playing Warhammer, it would stop getting new players but a lot of the old players would prefer that.
But if I had to guess, I would say that GW sells the Warhammer license to a major videogame studio which fucks it all up, and minis games become less popular overall, but also a lot of Warhammer players go on to have more fun than they did before GW sank.'
