Azuma- big and sluggish, great guns, no torps, if a vermont wants to devstrike you it will because overmatch

Overall their playstyles aren't that different but Azuma plays at longer ranges and isn't as consistent as Atago, mainly because 27mm plating.
Personally I use Azuma to burn my blue credit boosters on, but I prefer playing Atago.

It is inconsistent and explodes rather easily, but the ability to absolutely delete any dd in 15 seconds or less regardeless of said dd's skill level is pretty broken. The easiest win condition in ranked is getting the first dd kill, and with Austin it's easy. Just creep 3-4 km behind your dd and you and your dd will get spotted by the enemy dd at the same time. Load SAP. Now it's a matter of 12, maybe 14 seconds before the enemy dd dies. You won't die since 32mm plating and overpen technology. Disengage and farm BBs. There is no real counter to this strategy and the enemy won't expect you to suddenly appear before their eyes.
God I love this ship. I never expect it to perform but I guess neither does the enemy (that's an advantage, I think)';
