But playing this in multiplayer, the way that's advertised and I think most are expecting, is a truly baffling experience. I have no idea what happened when I win. I have no idea what happened when I lose. The new mechanics don't increase the skill ceiling; they just make everything more random.

And even supposing this was meant to be single player, it falls apart without a proper adventure mode - that tutorial really sets up a (bad) Diddy Kong Racing that just doesn't materialize.

The craziest thing is that the mechanical bloat should've made this a natural extension of how good people got at SRB2K. But they're unmanageable - air brake bounces, ring tethers never explained, taking your eyes off the road for item roulettes, starting position is a random mess, the new shrink scythes break half the courses, there's no escaping items...

The basics are just as confusing. You'd like to use rings for ring boost, but the reward of being slightly faster is far outweighed by the risk of not having enough rings to avoid tumbles, which absolutely fuck your shit up and end your race. And I swear to god drifting is slower than normal driving in this game, which breaks the usual skill progression, along with it feeling like most maps were just designed with a different drift arc before something radically changed.

Basic Controls, Explanation of Rings, and then Ring Cup on Normal/Easy would be a way better first impression than frontloading the whole tutorial, Robotnik Coaster is actually a good looking map with fun original music.
They could even have locked Metal Sonic behind completing every segment to tie it into the "story" since they love their Brawl unlock screen so much.

I skipped the tutorial with the cracked save and went back and played it later out of curiosity, and these were my thoughts immediately upon doing so.
It's so obviously a better way to structure and present the content, that you'd have to be some kind of spastic living in an echo chamber huffing your own farts to not think of it.

They just need to fix:
* The overly long tutorial
* Being punished for using rings (at 0 rings you can get your ass kicked for touching any other racer which is crazy)
