I solved this by keeping only a small number of roms loaded up on whatever I'm playing, but keeping the entire library saved on hard drive. Every so often if you're bored, go through the hard drive and think about what you'd like to add. Only keep 5-10 games on there at a time. Totally solves the problem, without removing any real options. I usually play the same 5-10 games seriously even when I have more options anyhow. This just streamlines it.';

Find out what's most appealing for you. I only play 2D platformers nowadays, the other genres are too long and I don't have time to invest on them anymore. There's kind of an easy solution to this and it will actually help you become more knowledgeable about retro gaming in general. Which systems have you NOT played yet? Find them, and then try to play at least a few games on each one.

This is how I learned about great games like SEGA CD's Terminator, Ginga Fukei Densetsu: Sapphire, Starblade on 3DO, Virtua Racing Deluxe, etc. The truth is that there are great games on every system, even ones you wouldn't think to try like Neo Geo Pocket Color or WonderSwan. If you can play a few games on each system, you'll know all there is to know about retro gaming in no time.';

Take everything off your flashcart/emubox/whatever or hide your fullsets in some directory. Then browse games websites or old magazines or ebay listings for games that look interesting and copy them into a root directory with nothing else in it. Check out stuff that seems interesting, don't just play stuff because other people put it on top ten lists.
Whatever you do, don't go through fullsets when you're sitting down looking for something to play. It's like scrolling through Netflix. Terrible experience.';
