'I won Ride Like the Wind yesterday. My thoughts:
I liked the rock-paper-scissors combat system. You can become really powerful with the right choices and blessings. Raiding itself feels underwhelming. Looting treasures is nice, but forcing a tribute is usually more hassle than it is worth. Exploration and venture system are both better than similar mechanics in KODP. Foraging is pretty powerful and regular exploration tends to be rewarding. Heroquests are easier and shorter. I think it's mostly fine, but I would like one or two harder, endgame, heroquests. Treasures., with a few exceptions, are more situational. The game can be too short. Skyquake happens barely a decade after the fire magic children and then it's a short road to the wedding. In that last game, I won even before I could give back the Herder bones to Elmal. You can win the game with your starting chief, assuming she (usually it's a woman for some reason? I guess both Nyalda, Ossara and maybe even Gamari give high leadership skill) is young enough. The game could use another decade of gameplay, just to space things out a bit. Ancestral enemies only appear in the handful of events and a few raids. Defending against raids has no additional benefits, no captives, no battlefield loot and the Wheels still mock me after I kill half of their charioteers, kill thirty footmen and wound another fifty. You can get magic from it with the right treasure, which is nice, but I would like something more. I lost one game, because I had low skill Erissa worshipper, not even on the circle, and then the battlefield healing event fired, which involved Beren. You can guess the rest. I would like some alternative, non-canon ways to form a kingdom. Let me unite the Solars, even if it means offscreen doom a hundred years later. Now excuse me, it's getting darker and I have the stead to guard.'

It's not actually RPS. Some actions just have a higher or lower chance of success in exchange for lesser or better gains. Some actions are straight up better than others but aren't always available or require higher combat skills.'

Warleader's stat is by far the biggest factor. The rock-paper-scissors system matters at the margins, likewise blessings, likewise treasures. But the stat is the central component.
If you have a heroic warleader and are not profoundly outnumbered, it is kind of hard to lose a battle.
Similarly, if you have less than renowned and do not profoundly outnumber your enemy, it is kind of hard to win a battle.'

Beren's wedding fired before I had the chance to return the god bones to Elmal and send the Fire Child, with him, and then, during the wedding the blessing I got from that Stormnigger Orlanth was sparing Beren's life for standing up to him. I've found trying to maintain about 1200 to be optimal.
More and you start having non-stop problems with pastures, less and their natural growth is too low to keep up with sacrifices and other normal usage of cows.
You should prefer using goods to solve problems though, since goods don't passively generate food like cows do.'

I mean, I get that much
hardest diff has been busting my balls on GOG version recently, there just seems to be a lot of random, heavily impactful bullshit all the time
Like, one run the first event I got upon literally finishing up my clan options from the start, was the black cloud of smoke or whatever event killing off 20-30 of my herds
again, this was before I even got into the regular game interface
and to top it off, Elmal rejected a 15 goods worth sacrifice to protect my clan against it
But what is it about GOG version in specific that's hard, or is it equally as bad on steam?
Also, dont get me fucking started on battle earth lizard bullshit
>pummel a clan into submission via raids because they keep stealing my shit and acting like little bitches
>"lol we have a magic lizard now fuck you"
>insta lose 90% of the following battles, even with heroic war leaders and 2x more efficient warriors + combat training venture
now that is some grade S bullshit, it's such an asspull counter against you dominating in warfare
I might as well try playing fucking Gandhi next since full raids just ain't fucking worth it'

>But what is it about GOG version in specific that's hard
The Steam version toned down the Hard difficulty considerably with a bunch of different tweaks, like by making it so that you can't get raided during your first year. In the GOG version you can get raided multiple times as soon as you advance to the next half of the season.

I managed to beat Hard a few times, but I haven't discovered a strategy to do it consistently.'

Is it just me or is this guy more of just a petty dickhead then genuinely threatening?
Like he pulled up to Berenstead in person several times and each time I just told him to fuck off. One of those times Korestene just rode out and sent his ass packing. He cursed my guys with sickness after Chalanna Arroy died but I already had medicine and a healing spirit so it went nowhere and at all times I had 2 heroic combat people so every time I just sent him or his lackeys packing. In the epilogue Venef the 60yo coward put him down like a dog, he failed to be threatening at every turn I see him as the comic relief chaos god.'

The Six Ages games are more or less canon, you're kinda railroaded into a single ending that has a couple of variables that can change if you want to win.
