As a first read skip the old testament and dive into the gospel of Luke.
Take your time, don't rush and reflect on what you read.
Pray, not in an organized way, no need to cross yourself or even speak aloud, just close your eyes and pray to The Lord.
Whatever is in your heart or mind at the time.
Lord, help me to open up my heart to your will.
Or
Lord, please help me to use the gifts you have given me to find the path you wish for me to tread.

When finished with Luke, reflect on what was written. Processing Jesus teachings.
Move on to Matthew.
Repeat previous steps.

Next, start applying what you have learned from the teachings of The Lord Jesus in everyday life.
Pray, personally, to The Lord at least twice a day(morning and evening).
From this point forward see if you can find a bible study group(Any denomination or non denominational)
Never be afraid to ask questions of The Lord when you pray. Be open and honest to God in your personal prayers.
After that, use what you have learned as a compass to help show you the path The Lord wants you to follow to be closer to Him and the path He wishes you would follow.
Never forget that you have fee will and God will never force you to do anything or Him.
Organized religion is not for everyone, and I say that as a practising Roman Catholic who's faith in the integrity of the church and pope.

The Bible just confuses me even more. There's so many "contradictions". Each time I read a verse and feel like I learned something. There's probably another verse talking against it, some kind of interpretation "gotcha" or the verse is simply promising to a specific person (not any Christian)
For example the Bible says if you pray for bread God won't give you a snake. And he will give good gifts to you. Obviously this isn't what happens in reality. Because not everyone who prays gets a good gift.
But there have been multiple times where the exact opposite of my prayer is what happened. Why does God make failed promises?

The verse is just saying that even evil men don't commit acts of wanton malice against their own children, so imagine what God gives his. In the context of what's going on in that page they are also talking about the kingdom of heaven, so not that if you just pray you get shit, but those rewards are after death.
