basically your soul is a fragment of the Word of God (which is also God and Jesus, yadda yadda, the trinity). You're not even really supposed to be here, so it's noxious for your soul to stay and everyone feels that there's something wrong here that they can't put their finger on. Eventually everyone will leave or be taken back by Jesus. Your time in heaven until that happens is pretty short and basically consists of waiting for them to get there and rooting for them. Because each soul is tied together it's not like by going back to heaven, you feel a sense of loss, it's basically just waiting for their plane to land.
I have a theory that there are significantly less "true souls" than is represented, however.
