Here on my continent, North America, there was no mass killing of mega fauna past the initial Pleistocene-Holocene extinction event. That was until euros came and killed off large populations of wolves, bears, cougars, jaguars, bison, musk ox, moose, elk, prong horns, sea cows, whales... Like I said before, a lot of these animals only have healthy populations in Canada due its inhospitably. My ancestors learned from their mistakes and took up a culture revering nature. Meanwhile, euros inhered a culture of "have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth", and exported it across the new world.

How many 100+ year old trees were there a century ago and how many are there now? Just about anything that isn't pine plantation is being massacred by diseases and bugs we imported from Asia. Vultures were basically driven extinct in the parts of Europe they resided mainly because a kind of antibiotics that are used in cattle is toxic to them. And for the record wolves were systematically driven extinct in English because the Norman kings obsessed with hunting were idiotically possessive over their deer. Yes but for an underdeveloped nation of over a billion it's to be expected. One cherrypicked picture doesn't mean much, especially when you conside Lake Erie and the River Svern. The fact that the Ganges is as polluted as these way less populated centers is clear indication that per capita we are far more environmentally cautious.

>My ancestors learned from this tragedy and never repeated it
They repeated it for thousands of years, the north american megafauna didn't disappear overnight.
It's a foolish concept that people have programmed themselves with, imagining that native americans chose not to conquer further to "live in tune with nature" (which again they weren't fucking doing, they culled nature until they found themselves in a niche that suited their tech level, as every human group has done) like they're some sort of mystical fairies. Your ancestors were blood and bone like the rest of us, power hungry beasts because that's what humans are and i'm sick of everyone pretending otherwise.
If the native americans had the means to technologically advance further (there's many hypotheticals of why though i tend to lean towards the "lack of domesticatable animals" hypothesis) they would have culled even more because technologically advanced societies are evolutionarily more successful than primitive societies.
The society that rationalizes the use and expansion of technological usage and resource acquisition is going to be more successful than the one that chooses to let their children die of preventable diseases and let their elderly starve due to ignorant refusal of tech.
The only thing that could emancipate us from ourselves was technology or death.'

I really appreciate this response. It is very intelligent, and I agree with most of it. To be honest with you, I am not actually xenophobic towards Europeans. This thread was a parody. Specifically a parody of some people I've seen here. People that have an irrational hatred for Native Americans in regards to megafaunal extinctions. They think Native Americans never evolved culturally since the paleolithic, and as consequence do not take their environmentalism seriously. I've even seen some schizos say that the near extinction of the American Bison was due to buffalo runs, as opposed to United States policy.
Of course it is ridiculous to blame an entire race for the actions of their ancestors, especially if there cultures are radically different in modern day. While the whole "living in balance with nature" archetype is heavily romanticized, it is not entirely inaccurate. Not upsetting nature's balance in fear of its wrath, like in many low-tech cultures, was and is a core part Native American philosophy. It's not a lie just because their ancestors caused extinctions. By that logic Europeans would also be lying when they say they care about the environment, because as you said, their ancestors did the same thing.

Oh alright, if true you seemed awfully genuine but i'll take your word at face value.
I should say think it's dumb to have an irrational hatred of native americans for megafauna extinction because literally every human group but the africans (who have megafauna well adapted to human bullshit) did it. My point is just "humans are humans".
>It's not a lie just because their ancestors caused extinctions.
I didn't say it was a lie (a lie requires intent), I'm saying that it's just not really true. Of course the descendants may believe they're living in harmony with nature because they're living within the niche their ancestors carved out, they don't have the knowledge of those past extinctions because why would they.
I do think moving towards a future where we live more in balance with nature is a positive thing, but i feel like having it be built on untruths (and those untruths being used to single out groups of people as inferior) isn't a good or moral thing. That being said humans are stupid and it's entirely possible they need those mythical ideas to actually behave in a civilized manner, so who knows.'

Sounds like something you made up in your head, but if anything this would be more understandable considering how shielded Amerindians are from any and all criticism of their past (and modern) behavior because they got le owned in wars 100 years ago and we all need to feel bad for them now or something - it’s true that *certain* Amerindians (they were not a monolith and different tribes had different views/traditions) did what they could to ‘live off the land’ sustainably so to speak, but that definitely can’t be said of all of them, never mind those that waged war on pretty much anything that moved including the wildlife they came across, so the lesson here is any attempt to point blame at “Euros” for some past historical wrongdoing can likely be redirected back at whichever group is doing it several times over.'
