as for non venemous.. er it really depends on the temperment of the snake, but generally so long as they dont feel pinned then they will be more chill (this means allowing them to move around, and just giving them an effective treadmill with your hands handling them). be careful about grabbing near neck/head as that's especially sensitive for obvious reasons, similarly the tail. your best bets to pick them up mid body. obvious that's not always viable.

I have about a 10-20% success rate at getting a calm nerodia, but they're known spastics. I'm much better off with rat snakes or rough earth worm or dekays (yes I know that pins a region in the states, no I don't care).';

The cat eyes snakes are moving on the ground quite a bit and its the species I see the most. The parrot snake should be mostly aborial, but that one came straight into the kitchen one day.

I thought he'd start recovering after he ate the worm, but he only got worse, he started eating less and less, and has basically been ignoring even small bite sized prey even as it walks right past his nose, he's been lethargic lately and just closing his eyes.
This morning I found him on the ground of his enclosure and basically didn't react as I scooped him up to try to give him a short soak in some water. I put him back in the same spot and am basically just waiting for him to die at this point.

Baby ball python not eating. Possibly sick.
She’s been underweight since I got her as a yearling (breeder was feeding her once every 3 weeks for some reason).
2 weeks ago she was slightly underweight still but was gaining weight compared to when I got her I missed last weeks feeding because personal retardation. Just went to feed and she’s super underweight suddenly almost skin and bones backbone visible sides sunken in.


Tried to feed her and she struck, missed, struck a second time with moving the fuzzy around, missed again.
Then she lost interest. I tried warming a new one up, same shit she wasn’t interested.
I hated to try it but I attempted an assist feed and she wouldn’t take it spit it immediately.


Idk what to do. She drank some water after putting her back in her enclosure which I take as a good sign. But fuck I’m worried. I’m going to leave her be tonight and tomorrow morning attempt another feeding, if she doesn’t take it I’ll go get a live fuzzy or a pinkie at least (shops are closed or I’d do that right now).


I’m worried sick she won’t make it. Should I even try to feed another thawed tomorrow or go straight for live? She’s only ever had thawed. Shops that have smaller sized live mice won’t open until 10am btw, I think that’s an appropriate enough window to try a thawed at 5am and if she doesn’t eat then a live about 5 hours later.

However, I suggest you mix your substrate with organic topsoil and a fine sand, and try to keep the deeper layers slightly moist, this will help burrows keep shape and prevent dust.

breeding pairs or mff harems are potentially OK but yeah, just be aware they are nastier than cresties, both meaner temperaments and more capable of hurting each other. They will beat each other up but unless you get two males are highly unlikely to do severe damage or kill each other. Tails are often chomped off and eaten though.
Both cresties/gargs need to be housed separately until they're adult size regardless, so plan to grow them out separately then introduce them carefully. I know many people who have paired them off and had them live fine longterm either in breeding groups or as mated pairs.

I think I fucked up. I did my normal thaw routine with hot water, the only difference is I microwaved the water an additional 10 seconds this time so 1 minute 10 seconds instead of 1 minute (water by itself mouse in other container). Normally I check my rodents at 15 minutes and determine whether I need to heat new water or give it longer I usually dump the water and heat new. Only this time I got side tracked and didn’t check for 40 minutes. I went to feed the mouse and it’s belly was ripped open seemed like it cooked slightly not thoroughly but slightly. It was my last mouse of that size so I fed it to my ball python anyways. Some guts spilled out. Then I read that cooked meat can make a ball python regurgitate and lead to death…
