Another thing about season 1 Twilight is that she wasn't magically PERFECT and ADEPT at ALL MAGIC SPELLS EVER, she had to actually study them and still even then, would strain to perform certain tasks. It was cool, it seemed more "realistic" in universe that she wouldn't just randomly be perfect at all spells like she is post season 3.
