A lot. Depends on the car.
Buy used, you'll be better off most of the time.'

Remember to figure out what makes/models are the most reliable. The cost of owning an unreliable 10+ yr old car could easily match the price of something newer (possibly even brand new, depending on how much you're tossing into keeping it running).'

Quite! As their value sinks like a rock the moment you roll out and fall apart on the street, the value of a new and used Toyota will be the same (0)'

The difference between new and 10yrs is 40K+ here. You'll be needing an awful lot of repairs if you're going to match that difference'

You buy new because you know how it's been rated, what the maintenance schedule is, and because you can pick the options you want much more easily than used. Plus it shows the manufacturer that building for that market is still worthwhile. If you're willing to compromise most or all of that, then buy used'

After the invention of search engines I've not had this problem. Many car selling sites now even have that integrated in them. I'd never buy a new car from a manufacturer because they all have such dismal privacy policies and absolutely atrocious data collection happening. Shoving it up their ass is the right signal to give imho.'

That happens with used cars too, as long as it has Sirius XM'

Nah, thanks to skimping on wireless modems even many cars made in 2014 are now radiosilent because the 3G network has been dismantled. It can't transmit all it sees and hears about you anywhere. In fact this is why Toyota so graciously 'decided' to give it's now-subscription based services 'free' to those cars.'

stingray only works as a passthru to an existing network. theres no 3g network so best they can do is potentially use the 1x (2g) to listen to calls, at that point they are better off using the stingray to hook your phone.'

>How much money are you actually wasting by buying a new car over used?

Less now then in the past because the used market is nuts. In the past buying something mildly used was a good way to take the bit of the off the lot depreciation out of a car; but now that's just not the case and you're better off buying new over a lightly used car.

That said if you get an older car with some miles on it you can get a great reliable vehicle for very little money. So at this point I'd say no to lightly used cars unless you can find a bargain; but a ten year old or older car in good condition is still the most bang for your buck.'
