For the most part it is Because of the Chinese. Dumbasses in the west thought that China would not try to use their vast minerals and loss leader practices (CCP paying companies the difference as to allow cars to be sold uber cheap) to make cheap EVs and take advantage of the EV push that was actually just trying to create and artificial Tesla-like jump in domestic brands. Also and partially due to Chinese EVs, but the limitations, low build quality, and ironic lack of innovation from EVs has caused them to be seen less favorably compared to hybrids as time goes one'

That is the big issue, tesla did the first initial innovation in the mid 2010s and from that pont the market didn't really innovate further. We were promised actual advancement and instead all we got was a model 3 but bigger. Quality is still bad, range is the same, charging is still too long and complicated for normies, nothing to address battery being drastically affected by climate, nothing to address cost of lithium batteries, nothing to address the possibility of lithium fires, and no country has a competent public charging system that isn't decorative at best. Meanwhile hybrids and PHEVs have leapfrogged in tech and continue to do so'

Yes. no excuse for the lack of continued innovation. So far seems EVs in produciton priomarily just pump and dump as hard as they can on a lame half ass product they never optimized or perfected.
And another big thing, I think one thing the EV manufacturers and EV proponents have completlwey blown, is the atrocious lack of recharging infrastructure.
One simply has to look back to see how blindingly fast the Gasoline and deisel fuiels refilling station infrastruxctuire was establish at the time ICE vehicles were being made commonplace across the USA after the turn of the century. with a decade or two after the public becoiming owners of personal private automobiles, gas staions and the refueling infrastructure was developed and established nationwide, between earlky 1900s and say, 1930s, 1940s, we had fueling stations practically everywhere.

I realy dont see a campaign like that being doe for EV charging. Obviously what shoulf be establishged is home charging and chargign at places of work. I dont see that being pursued in any siginifcant or tangible.
.ewither the indistry or the govt needs to get ahold of this and figure out the proper standardization and make it available. its beyond pathetic.
but par for the course, cart before horse of the Greenies thinking and lack of planning'

"People" aren't buying them, companies are.
Rental car companies and corporate fleet sales are the majority of tesla buyers- when you get that fancy tech job that includes a company car, it's a tesla.
And there's all kinds of little ahit- members of congress get a $500 a month stipend to lease a vehicle- AOC leases a tesla for $499.
If you pay attention to the charts floating around, the majority are "new vehicle registrations", not "private sales".'

Blame European dealerships.

Chinese manufactures the car at $10k. BMW manufactures a similar EV at $40k. Both cars are sold at ~$50-60k at dealerships.

The Chinese EVs could be moved if they were sold at a lower price point, but dealerships want those high profit margins. They don't care about units sold, but the amount they're sold for. All those cars sitting at the lot are sold to dealerships, but not to consumers.

This doesn't affect Tesla, because they own their own stores. They can set whatever price they want to sell at. You ever notice that whenever Tesla announces a price drop, every other car brands follow? But they're never the ones who initiate first, and it's always Tesla? Same is happening in the US. When Tesla drops, everybody else follows. Ford ends up losing $100k per EV sold. And the $7500 government subsidy doesn't cover the entire loss per vehicle sold.'
